vtec is engage by oil pressure, correct me if im wrong.
throttle position
exhaust manifold pressure
oil pressure
travel speed....
what else lol
i think some people might have a lack of knowledge about VTEC
assuming its like turbo... must be those VTEC pictures that get around lol
LOL yeah..... When the engine is crossed the vtec point, then the engine is working normally like designed. Below the vtec point, the engine is in a fuel economical grandma mode. People think that vtec is like turbo and if they can make it come earlier. LOL
the engagement of the hi cam will be more noticeable depending on throttle position vs road speed too..half throttle going up hill into 3rd gear will feel ¨less¨ pokey than full throttle on flat surface :)
vtec engages at 5800 rpm , full throttle , id suggest getting it serviced timing could be off as well.
That's quite wrong! I could feel the cross over point more, when it was stock, than when I had my PFC installed. The Dyno graph explains it all. This was the case for other 10 or so stock DC2R I have driven.
But yes, you should be able to feel the cross over. Nothing like boost kicking in (yO!), but yeah, you should definately feel it.
As stated previously, change oil, filter, and spark plugs.
Also high cam is slected not ONLY, on Full throttle. You can be touching the throttle rolling down hill, and once it hits 5800rpm, high cam will be selected.
You should feel the car pull when VTEC engages, it's not drastic, but it's there. Sound-wise, it's not obvious on a stock setup. I added a CAI and now the switch over point can be heard pretty well.
when i had mine standard the "kick" was more noticable.
once tune the crossover point is smoother and the dyno graph was more linear
2 videos you should watch this shows how vtec works
vtec working
and this one shows what vtec should sound like on a 100% stock itr
watch from 40s - 50s for good example
vtec in an itr
VTEC engagement depends upon:
rpm
engine temp (temp sensor)
throttle position (throttle position sensor)
oil pressure
vehicle speed (speed sensor).
good luck hope this helps
