ive got the 3 spoke version, how do i crack it open so the middle is visible? does the (middle horn section) flip up/down? or do i have to cut it open?

To take off non srs ( eg si , early vti , breeze etc)

First straighten wheel and make sure on flat surface. Take keys out of the ignition.
Get a flathead screwdriver , lever off the H embelem in the centre of the wheel.
Grab a 19mm deep socket , extension + ratchet or breaker bar.
Take keys out (if in ignition) and LOCK the wheel THIS IS IMPORTANT
Then undo the 19mm hub nut located down the centre.

Pull off wheel slowly , done.

oh tru, didnt know wheel could lock on centre or near centre. what about when attaching the bolt back in, what is the best method when tightening? or would the wheel lock stop it from moving?

^ it'd still be locked afaik, it's the steering column that locks not the steering wheel

just another tip though.. loosen the 19mm bolt but don't completely unbolt it
saves you the trouble of pulling it too hard and punching yourself in the face

hahaha speakin from experience ey? how tight should i tighten it up, really tight or tight? i dont have a torque wrench so cant do that

edit to the op; if you haven't already gotten the wheel off, the guide here should show you how to take the non-srs wheel off

U know, u can just undo the bolt at any angle. then BEFORE u remove the whell, straighten it up.

True

But locking the wheel is to aid undoing the hub nut - its hard to crack it with a breaker bar or ratchet etc with the wheel turning at the same time !

its probably better to have a mate hold it, the locking pin isnt as strong us u think, two people turning a wheel can easily break it
