That intake arm and pod look......well wrong! hehe
hahhaa yeah i removed the whole IM and thoroughly cleaned the whole thing including the TB and the intake ports (no I didnt P=P, just cleaned to stock finish) and now the poor thing has to suck through a tiny D16Y1 intake hahaha. Good friend of mine has B18C intake tube for me to try, otherwise since i have DC2-R airbox (Thanks Marz!!) Iwill just get an OEM DC2-R intake tube.. dont want bling-blung alloy chrome intake.
As for the B18C suggestion ? well low KM JDM B16A came along at the right price and was exactly what I was looking for: a DRIVING motor from a JDM Del-Sol CRX SiR-II .. as in not a front cut or a naked motor and tranny that has been sitting idle for who knows how long plus has been picked up and dumped down on it's arse by a forklift 42 times etc.. corroded water paths, seized etc internals, dried and perished seals the list goes on.
I would still recommend a front-cut to any would-be swappers though as then you dont have the nightmare I had of sourcing the missing and damaged parts etc.
why B16 not B18 ?
well yes budget was an issue, and I did enjoy the prospect of more low-down pulling power, however a B18C was about $1,000 more than the going B16's and my budget could not even come close to a type R swap. Further research and test driving proved to me that:
a. in my opinion, adequate power and torque for MY driving needs could be achieved from a B16A with the right mods.
b. B18C had limited OEM hybrid parts interchangability without further modifications etc. For example the intake manifold. B16A has seemingly endless aftermarket and OEM parts support and availability.
c. The Head seemed to beever so slightly more refined than the more 'gets the job done' B18C IM - though I'm sure there are plenty who would debate this. Better Head = better top end POTENTIAL, plus if I ever decide to Stroke to 2L or go B20 Block Combo, I feel the B16A head once again offers slightly more potential than the B18C.
d. I wanted to remain N/A and the posibility of mild hop-ups from OEM type R (etc) parts to retain factory reliability was very desirable, and the camshaft specs on the JDM SiR-II B16A are approaching that of type R territory, where the B18C Camshafts are more oriented to mid range power.. I want top-end.
e. Staying easilly legal without requiring engineering permits etc. As the engine is essentially the same configuration as my stock D16Y1 (~1.6L 16V PGM-FI VTEC) all that is required in terms of keeping the swap legit are Change of Engine Number forms.
f. It has always been in the back of my mind to think ahead to when I am older and calmer and more of a purist ( like my dad basically) and would want to remain true to the Japanese Domestic Market EG6 Civic SiR-II.. and not make too much of a bastard hybrid, but more of a refined example of what I feel is a 'modern classic'.
theres more reasons etc, but that's the basic jist..
As for Price Tinks.. well totally maxxed my budget - but so far hasnt totally exceeded my set-aside sleep-easy-at-night budget of $4,000.00 all up including:
B16A + Y21 Trans + P30 ECU + Mounts + Axles
2.5" Mandrel Steel cat-back with cannon-style muffler including silencer.
New Outer CV joints on both sides.
Modified Shifter and Linkage.
Modified Engine mounts.
Modified Throttle cable and Water Hoses etc.
under $5K is good :)
Looks good but damn is that radiator tiny. The one in my EF9 is a hell of a lot longer.
yeah it's an itsy-bitsy wittle baby wadiator.. is the stock VTi radiator - integra full width radiator comming soon..
hey man u need:
K+N intake
DC sports headers
Edelbrock IM
Crower adjustable cam gears
dyno time....
ill eg man ;)
nice job... power mods eh?? hmmmm... no extractors??
spoon ventuli plate
vtec controller
plus the intake you been looking at
that should net you some good gains on the butt dyno.
hahah EG Si.. that's big $$ suggestions there - already have K&N pod filter ; ) dont want pod though.. unles sis in ITR air-box.
As for IM - not at this stage, no need.
ADJ Cam gears will come but prob not Crower.. and same for DC sports headers - not a huge fan of US products.. Prob rather get JDM ITR 4-1 header.. but thanks to Labour cost blowing out to over 200% of original quote, I have no $$ left for header which I DID want to include in the swap.. ohh well..
Type One, what does the Ventuli plate actually do ? am skeptical of this particular spoon product.. and as for VTEC controller - that is useless unless has SFC functions also.. but I dont want even that at this stage.. am thinking more about ignition/spark and fuel delivery mods.. small DIY tuning.. not Pay $$$ for part X and get X HP gains.. blehh :P
Spark plugs leads etc ??? recomendations ?
Nice job hey, Lookin' good :D
not a fan of US parts?? pfft u jdm whore jk. US parts own!!
well its not for everybody hey man.
nah get some nice headers for sure and fix ur intake and that butt dyno will be smoking! haahhaha
i liked you D but if you are happy with your b16 then thats all the matters...
is this better:
hks adj. cam gears
spoon headers
sure there are some jap im too ;)
:)
How much did the labour end up costing you? Did you include that in your price you posted up before?
My same radiator has hanlded boost for 9 months now, never had overflow, with intercooler impeeding flow. That says something for the quality vs quantity. It will take all the b16a has to give imo.Quote:
