Yeah apparently has log books so I'll check it tomorrow, then get an authorised NRMA mechanic to go through it as well. Is it illegal to call up insurance companies to check if its been in an accident or anything like that? how do you find out if its been in one or not? Sorry never really bought a car yet and its usually cars under 10k that have the most problems and things to hide :P
GLi has lesser torque than both Si and Vti.
Si or Vti would definitely out perform GLi
Reason:
1) GLi is SOHC - No Vtec. It's just a normal single cam car and that's it.
2) Si is DOHC - No Vtec. Think about 2 human beings competing in a race. One using 1 leg to run (GLi) another using 2 legs (Si) to run. Who would most likely be the winner?
Comparing between specs Vs specs, it is apparent that Si can do much better than GLi.
If we are comparing between stock to stock Si and Vti, I think both would be go on par. It depends on what kind of performance and characteristic you want from your car. Vti would definitely gives you that slight push when Vtec kicks in at 5200. However, Si provides you with constant power with torque till the red line.
I reckon that you should do more test drive with GLi, Si and Vti in order to know and feel what suits you the best.
I personally think that Si is the best.. :P Because I am driving one!

single cam non vtec is no fun on gli =(
the eg vti single overhead cam vtec(d16y5 or soemting) has a diff engine compared to the si double overhead cams non vtec (d1a8)
i believe that the si was actually the "Sports" model of the eg's hence the "S" and the vti was actually the luxury model hence the sunroof
i bought my eg Si at 175,000kms for about 5-6k... havnt had much trouble mine , in my opinion the eg si is only slightly faster then the gli even though its specs is around 20kws more but it is an old car, but u can definately feel more power and fun in the EG si :)
also get a full mechanical check! i got a compression test on my engine before buying it ~ and also you can check any history like accidents , stolen , any money owning then u can call vic roads and ask or whatever its called in your area if u dont live in vic!

for major accidents and finance owing, you use REVchecks. costs about 20, or $40, cant remember, basically its a page u can print off listing all major accidents n any finance/ if any/ owing.

wells i'm not sure that the 122000 are for real, but yeah go have a look at it, sounds reasonable for Si.
eg vti really d15?? i thought they were 1.6lt!
but yea 5k for 122,000kms is considered a bargain if in good nick in melbourne..
i have not found a single eg si under 150,000 for a price under 7k
costed me 100$ for a body + compression check from a local mechanic
and free of cost to enquire about a car from vic roads in melbourne!

Well this is a canberra car (even better), but has a previous histroy in Sydney so im a bit skeptical about that. Oh well an inspection report will tell me some answers...Had a look at it today. A few trolley dents here in there and a couple scratches that seem buffable...Will take it for a spin tomorrow and see how it goes before taking anything further.
