just to give you guys abit of a laugh, I payed for my personalised plate today, after much deliberation............ I came up with
TETRIS :) hahaha
lol any particular reason why you chose TETRIS?
because it would be a crime not to love it? haha, nah, i just got a great laugh out of it, and i think a few other drivers definitely will too
i rkn thats a creative plate!
damn $2.5k ppq prestige plates >.<
so they should come in the next 2 weeks or so?
hey nathan, how goes the project rr?
i was just wondering on this.. the k20a that honda quoted u for $15k.. thats just the k20 that goes into the jdm fd2r, right? if ur planning to make ur fd resemble a mugen rr, will that mean ull get the mugen rr k20a with the mugen stroker kit? coz the mugen rr is a 2.2L, rite?
i highly highly doubt i can get hold of a mugen k20a. as for other things, the audio system is done, will get a pic up in a bit.
Nathan, you have too much spare money.
ZAGE have bolt on turbo kit for FD1
if you are not a multi millionaire i reckon invest with the money.
but this is going to be a mad project if its real.
hows project going?
been reading , updates? ...
pix!!!
Cant wait to see this RR convesion woooo hooo
Btw i read on another post that theres rumors the FD2R is coming to AUS!
Mugen Civic RR is 2.0L (prefacelift model 2006 - 2008)
Mugen Civic Type-RR Experimental Spec is 2.2L (facelift model 2009)
yup, you are right abt that...
but owner is up at Gold Coast =[
its the sex!!
there was also a 2008 prefacelift rr experimental spec with a 2.2L engine as well

Pics long overdue man!
forget the R18 and turbo etc.. just pull it out infavour of K20 or K24..
warranty will be voided depending on WHAT you modify, WHAT you make a warranty claim against, and WHERE you take it.
HONDA in general wants to keep you happy so you buy another honda one day so basically if you modify it, dont bother with a warranty claim on that part (or associated parts).
for example if you fit suspension, if you claim on anything to do with the wheelbearings, suspension, brakes, steering etc.. they can void it.
if you fit an exhaust system and your audio speakers die - that is OK as it is not relevant to the modifications.
I've had a customer's $45,000+ Honda warranty voided 'bumper-to-bumper'. The dealership was happy to maintain the warranty while THEY were working on the car (as they were able to claim against the warranty to incease their margins) even though it was extremely modified. Once they couldnt fix something so the owner took it to another Honda Dealership who agreed to fix the problem under warranty. The first Honda Dealership didnt like the truck coming to theirs to take it to another dealership and promptly called Honda Australia and had the bumper-to-bumper Black-Flag.
as for CF / FRP.. it is only legal to have (Fibre Reinforced Panels) fitted on vehicles that had so originally or were manufactured prior to the changes in ADR's in 1995.
so a 1972 Toyota Landcruiser may have a complete FRP body replacement and be legal.. however u cant fit a FRP door to a 1998 Landcruiser..
a 2004 Corvette may have a CF hood and fenders etc fitted as it was FRP (Fibreglass composite) from the factory.
IMO if you intend on going mental with mods on an FD civic - buy an OLD VTi that is out of warranty and dont worry about it.
Personally with the newer hondas built in Thailand - FD civic especially - i would DEFINATELY want the full warranty for a couple of years !! that's from insider knowledge yo !!
hope that helps.
Do you work at a Honda dealership?
That's pretty common knowledge, yo
so...... the photos?
successful troll is.... successful
LOL, ok. give me five mins. shall have a few pics up
ZOMG finally!, haha. sorry. i shouldve washed my car first :o

nice~ whens the engine going in =P
noicee, i have the same screen and subs haha
woah orange and alpine
it's actually supposed to be the same red as my honda badges. but apparently i need it done in 2pak paint or it will always come up grainy and odd
anyone got any thoughts on what has more 'upgrade potential'?, the K24 or K20a. basically i want to achieve minimum 0-100 and high top speed. considering at the moment without any engine work whatsoever i can get up to 216kph on the highway. have not tested on a dyno. but the highway near my house is verry long and verrry straight. at 216 it just wouldnt go up anymore.
In your post, please say for or against either engine and why :).
i rkn get the k24z3 (the one from the cu2). if you are going to do a k20a conversion then youre just pretty much mimicking the fd2r, but if you were to do a k24, then it would just totally be a different car. the cu2 k24 produces less power than a jdm k20a though but it will have more torque.
also you wont have to change your oem tacho since it red lines at 7,100 and even if you tune it to 8,000 rpm, the rev range would still be on the tacho :p
thats my opinion though
sidenote. i am getting the fd2r cluster sets for the dash. so it will show at 9krpm, if i get up to it :p
its a auto~~~ auto Mugen RR~~~
actually when the engine gets put in i am also getting a tiptronic gearbox. so yeah......like i said, it's a big project :p
man, may aswell convert to manual lol
yeah, i dunno about that........ its a really hard choice. well guys, i have some great news. i have secured the wreck of an 07 AUDM civic type r reallly cheap. gonna strip this and put in the 4 door, the only part of the car that was damaged is the front bumper. engine bay is perfect, seats are perfect, steering wheel, everything. only problem is, it's the K20z. anyone not like these? abit lower horsepower, but still lots of potential
k20Z4 i think it is..
and it's great! lots of potential!
will there be any legal issues when trying to put in an 07 built engine into an 09 car (as urs is, nathan)?
lol uh o spagettio
as far as i am aware, this should not be too much trouble at all. the engine bays on the type r's are actually a tad smaller than the standard civic, i'm sure it will take abit of work granted. but i am gonna say entirely possible
please dont tell me you are doing a mugen mock up and u have an auto!
Thats an EPIC FAIL on so many levels......
cant people drive sports cars anymore?
copy/pasta......but still interesting. i like the paddle
Paddle shift vs. manual
Just to distinguish between Ferrari’s paddle shift transmission or BMW’s SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox), and the one on the Honda Civic – both the Ferrari and the BMW have semi automatic or sequential manual gearboxes, whereas the Honda Civic has a standard torque converter automatic with the option of paddle shifting.
In the case of a Ferrari or BMW, the computer blips the throttle on every downshift ensuring that revs are perfectly matched when the lower gear engages. This novel experience continues to be quite a lot of fun, at least for the first 60 minutes. I can’t say the same for up shifts however, at least not on a BMW 645CI SMG – while downshifts are smooth and enjoyable, up-shifts are slightly hesitant at anything less than 6000 RPM.
On the automatic Civic in S mode, both up and downshifts were surprisingly smooth, even though it’s missing a blip while downshifting. Downshifts can be performed coming into a corner, even at fairly high RPM, ensuring reasonable drive coming out of the corner. This is clearly a feather in the cap of the Civic’s transmission, unlike some others that first give you the option of choosing a gear but then overrule your command in a very patronizing manner. The Civic will even allow you to hit the limiter at the top end, which is not to say it won’t provide any security to its engine either – it won’t let you downshift if you run the risk of over revving the engine, it’ll also automatically shift to first when you come to a standstill.
At the end of the day, however, the automatic just isn’t as involving as the manual. Additionally, quicker shifts can be achieved by using the manual rather than the automatic in S mode. The shifts on the manual may not have the rifle bolt precision as Honda’s sports car, the S 2000, but it’s manual gearbox is a joy to use nonetheless. In my opinion, if there’s one character trait that helps distinguish one car above the other, it’s a direct, short shift manual gearbox. The joy of going up the gears in a well-sorted car can in no way be matched by flicking a paddle on one side of the steering wheel, regardless of how much it makes the driver feel like Michael Schumacher. Moreover, the thrill of mastering the evasive art of a perfect downshift while matching revs by heel-and-toeing can in no way be equaled by a silicon chip that does the same.
This is not to take away from the technological tour de force that is a paddle shift gearbox. We now live in a world where computer chips give us the luxury of the perfect downshift by the flick of the paddle. This translates to a great deal of comfort in the real world of endless traffic jams. In the automatic Civic, you can enjoy the best of both worlds – you can leave the Civic in the purely automatic ‘D’ mode when you’re commuting back and forth from work, and shift to ‘S’ mode when you come across an inviting piece of road.
All things considered, serious drivers should still go for the manual – it’s a much more involving and complete experience. We need to keep in mind, however, the decades of development enjoyed by todays’ manual transmissions. The paddle shifts of today have been around for far less time and their pace of development has been tremendously quicker. It’s safe to assume that these will continue to get better with time. As it stands currently, the paddle shift is more of a convenience device than a sporty one.
hmmm ok so u have a civic and trying to compare with a BMW or ferarri .
if u dont know how to drive a manual i guess thats fine, can always learn.
Mugen make these cars in Manual for a reason, would be the most boring car ever with an auto with ur little paddel shifters.
but hey its ur money and car!
Lol i always said we would sell heaps more S2000's to women if they came in auto!
well, this is the last task anyway. and its a strictly 'for fun' car. i think it should be ok. once the whole conversion is complete the only driving this car is going to be doing is 1am on the highway to have fun :p. and as for manual. if i was going to just do a straight swap over that way, i would have bought a manual car in the first place. it's going to look like a mugen but obviously not going to be one. so why bother sticking to the rules :p
im thinking now, wouldnt it be cheaper just to import a fd2r then if you're just going to do this for "fun"?
hey OP you sound like a hoon.
and have no idea what you're on about.
you want to make your car illegal cause you cant find another engine? and now go racing at 1am?
cmon man do it properly
ppl like the OP give us honda drivers a bad name and ppl think of us as 'hoons' because of ppl like the OP
if your gonna do this stuff, man just go to the track - safer and prob feels more worth it
it is quite true...as pointed out by stig....
i think you can go track for like a few times a month...with your imported fd2r...
than building your auto Mugen RR which may have a lot of troubles running and even if its drive-able.....dun think RTA or insurance would accept this beast of yours...=[
how much is it to imported a FD2R for track use only?
no offence OP, but ur car looks very basic in comparison to what others have done in the forum
lawl such as urself?
waiting for that mugen rr kit and k20 to go in
look....tim just boast off abt his civic LOL
but.....we do wanna see updates OP...
well not really, like Kevins car was more modded than OP's, black8thgen, Howy,
not just mine!
heehee
LOL yea tim man relax hahahaha. just cos u got SEXY RAYS RIMS THAT I WANT =[
man i could PS mine again haha
bahHH!!!!
LOL!
yeah i agree with tim.. no offence but the mods arent anything special most the ppl here have cars looking much cleaner or to say the very least have similar mods..not saying ur mods are nothing...
but i dont believe how overrated this post was, how could u have a thread to urself? so selfish lol..
and when i heard the engine conversion was gonna be 'flappy paddle' first instinct OH NO
"once the whole conversion is complete the only driving this car is going to be doing is 1am on the highway to have fun"
wow all that effort and trouble to get the ur 'perfect project car' and to find that the only time/place ur gonna be pushing it is on the highway at 1am...
not the safest and best place to do personal racing.
epicfail.
lol, of course they arent the greatest photos. and it obviously looks like nothing atm because all it has done is the audio and abit of paint :p. there are still many many things to do and many many things that may or may not be happening. this is a personal project, but it is something i needed quite abit of help with to begin with, hence posting. you are all right, this car will probably have some illegal modifications eventually. and the only time it will ever get to gallop is on the track. But i dont really see this as stupid, I see it as a project and nothing else. Transmission is as yet undecided depending on what i can get and from where. I have just been told that a fd2r halfcut is coming into australia, so it may be a proper 'conversion' and become fully manual.
My family has a cobra that we keep in a garage 364 days a year mostly and only gets seen at shows. This car I wanted to be my 'show' just do things my way and have it look how I want, but the reason I called on everyone here was to make sure the way in which i go about things was correct. This car is a Honda, and i wanted the end product to impress Honda owners. if you have advice, tell me. if you have critique, tell me. if you just plain don't like it, tell me. everyone here can influence the end result. but only I can actually put something into action, and i need all of your help to make sure that the actions that i make keep the Honda spirit first and foremost.
my advice is, if u want to keep any credibility and if u really want to "impress Honda owners" is to do things by the book. the thing i called u on before was because u wanted to get an 07 engine in ur 09 car. thats an automatic no no and will give u a lot of hassle later on. if money is not an issue then u should simply wait til u can obtain an 09 k20.
also, auto is boring! even if it is tiptronic. a k20 needs a manual box. shifting gears and hittin teh vtak is very much ftw! the main thing everyone here is waiting on is the engine and its the most important part of this whole project. ur mugen rr kit, sound system and paint job will look sick, but the owners in here would still be impressed if u had a jdm k20a inside a stock fd1.
that is what i am waiting on atm. that halfcut. slowly getting infor, it's only done 13k kms. but still gotta find out year. i can wait for the engine. hey, ya never know, i may have to wait a year or 2 to get one. but still, its the end product that is important, people wouldnt still be driving around ek's if they were worried about the year
this is the first time taking a look at this thread
i kinda feel bad for nathan
so many guys taking a dig at him
i think we should give him some credit for tryna break the mould
wants some jdm style , with some bling and cruisability all rolled into one.
all that and a motor swap on top
this could be a cool end project when all is done and dusted
i say points to nathan for being different
OP, i'm sorry but this is only happening cos we've been waiting for too long. Ideally u shuda made the thread a lot later... rather than keep the suspense and hype.
