If it's an eg6 cluster then it won't get brighter, if anything else then try the dimmer dial, otherwise I'm out of ideas
thanks for all the feedback guys..
how do i know if its an eg6 cluster? sorry to sound like a noobbb
ive got a 94 eh vti and the interiour is pretty much stock?
White dials, redline is 8k, top speed 180
nope my dials black, redline 7200 top speed 220
Yeah man I did this last weekend, its not as bright as in the pics, its just not..
the pics look heaps brighter if u take the shots with an SLR camera, mine arent that bright and im using red LEDs as well, u get used to it, annoying thing is its hard to see how many k's u've travelled during night lols, still looks good though
I'm planning to do this myself, and I noticed that most people get different parts for the mod. If you notice very carefully the article writer is using Navra's part number 47287 T5 size with 1.7W. High wattage means brighter lights. I've seen LED mods before but they don't scatter the light enough and thus you get some bright and dark spots on the cluster.
This is their website.

They also sell the socks for them, part numbers for red T5 socks is 49942BL
Other colours are here.

Hopefully this can be of some help.
all my LEDs work, but it seems like somethings getting in the way? from about 0 to the 40km area on the cluster its really bright, then dies down.. at 100 km its really bright then dies down again untill 140. and its the same deal with my revs. at about 2k its bright, dies down till about 4 then bright again at 5k.. isnt there anyway of getting all to look even? its just really annoying and dim. i cant see how many ks ive got out of a petrol tank at night! loll
ill take a pic and post it tomorrow night to show u guys what i mean..
okay so i took a few pics to show u how my cluster looks..
i used the camera in normal mode (not night mode) for a few shots to show how my cluster looks when im sitting behind the wheel. and i took a few shots with the camera on night mode to show you how much the camera actually exaggerates the lighting in the pictures!

sorry for the bad quality shots.. it was freezing outside!! loll
The light parts are were the leds actually sit. I've done this and that didnt happen...
Mines all even, can read prity much everything at night.
Can take a coule of pictures if ppl want. But for those who say it doesnt light up well, all i can say is try getting better globes maybe...?
i dont have the fade in between the lights, mines very close to the original picture i posted, just abit darker
the only problem i have is the trip is darker then everything else.. can still see it, just not as pronounced as the rest
zzz which bulbs should I use, the LEDs from Jaycar seem crappy then :(
im only using some philips bulbs i picked up from autobarn, not led's
but now, instead of painting the bulbs ive got sign vinyl wrapped over them, easier then painting then and it gives a better colour distribution
does autobarn sell coloured bulbs?
you owe me that EG6 cluster :P
hahah :P Never!
it arived today to.. haha woo
they only sell the amber/yellow ones.. they also sell the coloured caps (like the blue ones on the original bulbs) in red.. maybe if you want red lights give them a try, see what they are like.. (they would probably be the best, becasue they are made with chaging the colour of your dials in mind)
can you use t10 bulbs?
Does anyone know how to take the front part of the climate control off? I can remove the fan speed controller arm as show in the pics..
I got an EK1 would the t5 for the cluster be the same for my car as the eg? It seems the one at jaycar arent bright or people are getting bright patches then dark areas. What seems to work best the navra lights with the little sleeves or the jaycar led lights?
damm man im loving the double coloured cluster. green + blue so sexy
I guess i might aswell post up pics of when i did mine, used T5 White LED globes with a rating of 0.1w frankly i think they are perfect for my liking :D.

PS. I know its an auto so dnt rub it in :(
But in saying that before doing this mod my gear light indicators were working fine, now everything except for D-4 (Drive Gear 4) lights up when selected... i got no idea why? can anyone shed some light:confused:
looks like your lights don't spread properly either but because they're white it lights up alot better than the red hehe, nice work
was the climate control a bitch?
haha yea they're actually not that bad in person, dnt really notice it, the climate control was the biggest biatch man seriously i had to keep my pimp hand strong literally. took me 1-2hours on the stupid thing the worst was the hot/cold wire and screwing it back in, not to mention losing the skin on my knuckles...:thumbdwn:
its the boom man...like so much since my eye so bad at nite...cheers mate...
DAMN!! thats hot!
btw anyone done on a EK? how many globes to i need and is it T5?
Yes its T5 aswell - helped ekcoupe on his, but cant remember how many you need.
Pritty sure we used two packs of 5 but not 100% :s
Hope that helps.
Not a fan of the huge brights spots the white or colour specific LED's give out on the climate control panel. Just thought I'd make a note for someone thinking getting the proper globes with make an improvement over the paint method.
I will be trying the paint method in the near future as it seems to disperse the light better going by the pics in the original post.
EDIT: Just looked again and looks better in full darkness. Bright spots arent as pronounced as they are in say afternoon or morning light. Would still consider the other method for the climate control panel though.
you can buy sock type things that go over the bulbs, just like the blue ones that are on that at the start
ive got some red ones, much better then painting then, and a better array of the light
you can just use a sharpie and colour the bulb lol
Whilst trying to find bulbs to do this DIY, i found a great solution that makes it SOOOO much easier. No colouring of bulbs, no guessing what size to get.
I went to Parklea Markets today and just went to all the shops that sell T5 LED's. I forgot to take a photo of the shop i bought these LED's from, but they're there...somewhere. hehe.
These are T5 LED's that will fit into the "5" and "6.5" sized bulbs.
1st bonus! They are not standard LED capped. They have an inverted wedge lens which spreads the light out.
2nd bonus! They come with their own base that can also be used in SOME of the fittings. You'll see from my pics what i mean. The other ones that were replaced, the holes were too small.
The rest of the bulbs that couldn't use the base i just used the OEM base. It's a bit of a tight fit, just make sure you push the LED's in slowly, firmly and STRAIGHT! Avoid any sideways pressure or you may snap the LED from the base. Yep....it almost happened. hehe.
There are areas that are brighter than the rest, but it isn't as bad as getting hot spots like standard LED's with standard lenses.

Here at the three bulb positions that can use the base that came with the new LED's.

As you can see, it comes with a base! Woot!

They are normally $4 each, but because i bought 10 of them, i got them for $3.
Hope this helps! =)
man i did my cluster long time ago as well as my climate control.. climate control was good but my cluster was shit. coudnt see the dials or nothing.. and the colour i chose was blue.. tried so many type of lights led etc :( great thread
Man t5 are to small for mine need a t6.5 or something but jaycar dont sell shyt!
so, what size do we need? im confused..
ive got an eg vti- so is it t10? t5? or t6.5. let me know which one yous have used for dash and climate control that has worked!
thanks
Just did this on my car.
Ordered 10 t5 bulbs and 2 5 packs of the red covers for them (all navara brand), cost $13 from my auto elec.
Climate control looks good but dash isn't bright enough imo. Can I use the next size up globe, the existing ones from the dash looked bigger, possibly a t6?
Also can anybody tell me how to change rear demister switch globe?
can anyone tell me how to take out the bulbs from the brown holders? and from the black holders for climate control!!
Bump bump
