Nah! Stay in your class! Or build a 2.1L B20!
Seriously, though, that would be a fun package in a car that must weigh less than 890kg even with you driving it!
You should take it to Lakeside or QR or even WP for a track day first. Are you headed up Mt Panorama in August?
yeah I would love to get it to more places, money with the new business is the hardest thing, I don't get much play money haha I'm trying to get into the improved production circuit racing championship in queensland as well. Which of the 2 bathurst hillclimb tracks will that be on, the one that goes reverse up the track and finish's at lovers leap or is it the other quick one. Or are than doing one on sat and the other on sunday?
I would love to go to that I've got unfinished business there. I was ment to be in the 2008 australian hillclimb championships there. Some douch bag smashed my crx up 6 weeks before the race, and the guyi beat at grafton that year won the class and broke the record that year.. Haha
Imp Prod would be a blast. Remember watching some US prod races in late nineties wher there were SiR2 EGs, ITR's, BMW 325i's and some other higher pewered nissans and yankie cars. The guy in the EG (yellow) would lose out off the line, chase cars down in the corners, lose a position down the straights and then make up 10 car lengths under brakes and pick 2 cars off!! Awesome racing! The BMW's and ITR's usually held down the top spot but the EG seemed to cut fastest lap times on occasions! Love to see that stuff again!
anyone going to haunted hills on sunday?
anyone done the Huntley Hill Climb?
:( I wanna get in on this action.
Last time I checked Mt Cootha climb was 2 years ago. They only allowed classics or if you were in a EVO or WRX club....kinda lame.
Anyone know how to get in?
These events looks incredibly fun ! cant wait to give them a go :D:D
Did you race on the weekend at kempsy iijjee? I'm thinking of entering the next state event at ringwood park at the end of the month, I should have done kempsy, but I realised it was on to late.. Haha
In Lismore tonight! Swapping my wheels and susp next wk for some coilovers. Also found my trailing arm bushes are completely collapsed, which won't have helped the oversteer issues ive had at mountainview. Having them replaced with the good (blue!) stuff, whatever it's called! Looking to race again in the next two months or so! My car was on blocks all last week! The state event was pretty competitive. I've never not finished first up there but my best time would have placed me 5th on the weekend in the 1600-2000cc Imp Prod class I usually race in! Still, the winner of that class - yes a racing VW Bug! - was only 0.8 of a sec faster than my best.
Cooperabung prob doesn't suit our cars really! More of a turbo track! It's really a quarter mile up the hill, pretty straight and then two difficult turns and over the finish line!
I bet the car that won that class was a orange beetle driven by heath campbell. My pb at grafton is quicker than his hehe. I was stiring him up at grafton, good fella.
Man you are going to love coilovers, just make sure the softest setting isn't to hard.
Yeah have thought that track was a but of a drag strip.
Campbell indeed! He holds the track record too, i think!
What are your coilovers' springrates, front and rear? I've had teins twice b4 and they were firm but so predictable! How much do the dampener settings affect handling, as opposed to ride?//?
Not 100% sure on my spring rates, they are jic dc2 coil overs. I changed the rear springs to a softer set that tyrone with the wrx from grafton had, that made it heaps better, not sure what they are, I've never tested them. The guys I've been pit crewing for lately have been teaching me the dampner side of things a but lately. fingers crossed I get the car to the next ip queensland circuit racing meeting so they help with my car set up before I race them.. Haha
Heading to Mountainview next month - 14/8. Also planning to do Mt Panorama on the 28th! If I can get there and back on Sunday!!!
Might try leaving my rear sway off when I finally get to fit these coils! I don't want to be 'drifting' up the hill!
Hey
i aminterest catch up at ringwood park hill climb ask some questions and see how honda's go doing hill climbing
i am thinking of focus on build a hill climb ed9 crx over track car as most events in NSW state series are in Newcastle area conpaired to down south
Thanks
pat
hey mate looks like I won't be doing many more hill climbs this year, looks like I will be competing in the final 2 rounds of the improved production circuit racing series. Before you do to much to your crx check the legal regulations for the class you want to enter. If you ever want to enter a state round you will need a log book and last time I checked with the log book guys you can't log book a crx in the Improved production class because it was sold in auatralia as a 2seater. If you just want to enter local stuff your all good, but if you break any records they usually won't count, (that had happened to me a few times, that'd why I have log booked the car now. Crx's are a great base to work with. The wheel base is a100mm shorter than the civic hatch of the same year. Which means the car will tend to slide into a corner a little when set up right, which then allows for a earlier acceleration point and greater corner exit speed. When I changed from acrx to civic hatch it took more than a year of set up to get the hatch quicker, that was with issuing everything swapped from the crx shell. Man send me a message If you want I'm happy to help if I can, the more competitive hondas the better

By the way I found some awsome cameras the other day, i'll buy some soon and put up some footage. If I make a bulk order i'll let you guys know
that something i didn't know about the crx and another reason to go over to ed civic
i was improved production circuit and found that the crx wasn't legal as it two seater and the state hill climb is base off similar rules
Where would be best place to find the rules for NSW state series regulations? EDIT found page
as at the moment i still in early days of change improving the car, i could very easily change to ed civic shell if need
thanks for information too
pat
Edit Just had quick look over the regulations i can run my crx in Road registered Non logbooked cars Under 2500
But that will limit me in what i ant to do long term
As per this link
http://www.cams.com.au/en/States/NSW...gulations.ashx
Would you think it better to start off in a ED civic hatch shell than keep play with ed9 crx?
As it opens me up to race in improve Production Sports if i choose to try something different long term
Man you should be able to run your car in improved production road registered 0-1600 if they run that class our up to 2000. The strange thing is my old crx was log booked as a road registered car. But the guys are now saying that it shouldn't have been allowed in. I honestly believe that my crx was a much quicker car than what I have now. If I had of put the same time into the crx I'm sure it would have smashed the civic. But then you would be limited by what you can race in later. A mate of mine has just through all that with a crx, he has decided to sell the car now and build a corolla.
was just searching through some old grafton times. The year after the crx got destroyed and the 88 civic wasn't ready yet I needed to drive in the first meeting for that year for championship reasons and I ran my stock 1995 sohc vti civic I ended up putting my coilovers in and running with old semi slicks and got a 55.35 in the under 2L racecar class.lol thing I ened up getting 6th out of 10 as well
That's not a bad time. Are you sure you don't roll back 50cm on the start line before dropping the clutch?? Local rules and all that!?! I would love to drive around the track slowly one day and spot some markers and try some lines. Have only run up the hill at Mountainview 8 times to date! Your times are pretty depressing for the trailered cars with big brakes, turbos and tyres that can't break into the 56's! Like the Soarer I've seen up there! Got a feeling most people's 'old tyres' are better than my setup! Donate today!
Can't get to Grafton on the 14th anymore but will try for the next round there. I really have that track in mind when I'm setting up my car. Want it to be chuckable and balanced. Can't afford rear tyres yet so will still be a compromised handling package. Have the K-sports in now and hoping to get some wheel-time soon. Haven't been around a corner really yet! Very happy with the 10mm increase in ride height (so I don't whack every imperfection on the road!) and there seems to be far less body roll. Haven't put my rear sway back on yet and not sure I'll need it. Still have option of refitting my Whiteline solid front sway if I am still getting oversteer. Also just replaced my trailing arm bushes with nolathane as the old rubber ones were barely attached and obviously doing nothing. Looking to enter the Cooperabung hillclimb this Sunday and then see if I can get to Mt Panorama on the 28th.
Hi Ian! Great to hear the civic's going strong! :)
I thought the public couldn't drive Bathurst?
I know what U mean about road height, the bush roads are hectic sometimes!
Hey! Yeah Mt Panorama hillclimb just called the Esses - a run from the start of Conrod Straight up the wrong way to Skyline on top of the mountain. 750 metres long, 88 metres up! Still trying to justify 17 hour round trip for just 4 or 5 mins hard driving though! Starting to talk myself out of it now I think! There must be 15 hillclimb courses between the Mid North Coast and Bathurst!
Ah gotcha mate!
Yeah, that's a lotta effort for little reward.
BUT,I do know about your Wakefield effort :)
Yeah, that was epic enough! Maybe I should go back there when I can afford some rear semis and with the better susp setup I might drop some real time around there - especially if it's not a stinking hot day!
One day!
Sounds good! :)
Buladelah hillclimb towards the end of september.
Think I will enter this.
http://myalllakesmotorsportsclub.jigsy.com/
Got any track maps for Bulahdelah, dai-16t??? Found the website but no info about track length, etc.
Just checked out your build thread! I'd come just to see this thing run! My car is really the antithesis of yours! Plop in a bigger donk and change the bits that make it get the power to the ground and leave the rest as it was! Your car is more - peel back everything to it's bare minimum and pick the most uncomplicated, high class, reliable and aesthetically correct solution to reach the ultimate iteration of its kind! You must be pretty excited to see it running the way it was designed to. What tyres are charged with the responsibility of getting all that power to the ground?!? You should have entered Superlap! What H car fanatic wouldn't want to get a gawk at this beast! Have you tracked it anywhere yet?
Thanks for the good words iijjee. Yes am happy it is running. It is actually having the boost control better set up as I type this. Multi postion knob with three setings, wet/road/ideal.
Tyres at the moment are dunlop full slicks(200/580/15) which are a circuit tyre but I am hunting down a super soft in a size that will fit the car for hill climbs. Any ideas?
Um it has only been to the track once for a shake down(wakefield). That was really just a shake down. After a build like that there were some things that had to be rectified. Front splitter needed some rods(done), modified boost control(done), better rear end set up(kinda done), slight temp issue when comming off track(done) etc.
It was un-timed testing and even if there were times they would demonatrate the cars potential as speeds could not go over 130k's due to the splitter eating the tarmac lol.
r.e superlap....not enough track time to set the car up and also entries were filled up in four hours. That is what i had heard. Next year I would not mind to try it.
I'm not the right person to give tyre advice for slick tyres. If it was semi's I'd suggest the Dunlops or Advans like mine - or even the Hankooks that seem to have cleaned up this yr at Superlap. Need a circuit racer for that kind of knowledge! Power to weight wise I can't see why you could get your car into the 1:05 range at WP. Even better if you drive as well as you vision!
I took the baby seat out of the car and went up to 'Haunted Hills' on Sunday, did the figure 8 circuit for the first time.
Tyres weren't ideal for the conditions... 3 year old semi slicks, a little on the worn side.

hill climb at haunted hill again this weekend i think for aus championships?
i should build a car for it, its local track for me :D
Here's another video (same day) from the outside loop...

Had an awesome weekend at MountainView hillclimb track in Grafton a few w'ends ago. Still racing in the road-reg class U2L and not yet into the same time bracket as the best un-reg club cars in the U2L cars. Especially Brian's little rocket ED/EF.
But on the day, my little EG finished ahead of all other reg cars and 8th outright out of 58 competing cars. Two new front advan A050s and coilovers helped - as well as more laps of this awesome little track! Still a couple of seconds or three off the 4wd EVO's and Sti's.
Hoping to get 2 more tyres one day and figuring out both the track and the coilover settings to bust another second off my 52.10 time.
If I ever figure out how to upload vids I have both in-car and Dad-cam trackside footage of my best lap!!!
that looks like a wicked track!
Just went to a great hillclimb on a kart track in Coffs Harbour over the weekend. Raleigh Raceway! Great turn out! Great weather... First time on track so still only been round 5 times! Would like to perfect a few corners I almost got!!!
Time - 44.80
Won the Under 2L class and against 17 cars finished 2.78 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
Came home 6th overall out of 65 cars!
First car with doors! Or rego! Or non-slicks! Or rear downforce wing!
Tight track that suits a car that has handling balance. Top time in Over 2L was an HSV in 46.66.
Was really happy as all I set out to do on the day was get close to the rally WRX (45.24), R33GTR (45.89) and the Targa Tas Skoda Octavia RS (46.33).
All those guys from up the Tweed and NNSW should put this one on their lists! Great, wide track with plenty of run off!
Will try and post footage from my in-car iPhone! Not sure how! Try this.....

Look at Legend of the Lakes Hillcimb in South Australia, Mount Gambier (450kms from Melbourne, 550kms from Adelaide) on Youtube
I am doing it in my Civic this year, I love the track cause you are just going up, not up down up down, all corners are ethier blind, or negative camber (but dont look left... it is a very big drop into the lake hahaha! around 50 to 150meters to the lake from the top) and theres a hairpin at the top always heaps of people coming over doing it and also watching it, maybe around 400+ people come and watch it each day, and around 150+ competitors this year, last year it was 128 entries and was 100% filled in 3 days.
I believe theres more rooms for entries, if this got you interested a bit, got to www.seacsa.com
Worth wild doing it! :D

after not racing at the grafton hillclimb for 2 years, i decided it was time to have another go, after breaking the old class record of 52.23 six times over the weekend i managed to get a pb of 50.84
improved procustion class 0-1600cc.
Heres a run from the front bar.
http://youtu.be/vYGHL6b-3eE
new Australian record, new Australian class champion.
Gratz on the record win!
great run, well done.
Tricky track! Looks like a fairly committed effort, Brian! Congrats!
Try out springwood.
Thanks fellas. Tricky track for sure. What you can't see in the footage is how bumpy it is and the off camber sections. I'm not a huge fan of the track, but it was the Australian titles so I had to give it a go. I wish they held it at Grafton it would be good to see what some quick 1600cc ip cars could get down there
Just in case anyone is interested... some good venues.
