"They were both taking it deadly seriously. There was a crowd of clubbers standing around them cheering and clapping.”

"Jenson particularly likes grooving to a rock house mix of Jay-Z and Linkin Park. Vitantonio was finally forced to admit defeat when Jenson encouraged other partygoers to join his 'train' as he led them round the club in a conga.”

"Jenson had about 12 people attached to his waist so in the end Vitantonio had to join on as a passenger!"

And according to the newspaper, this isn’t the first time in recent weeks that Button’s been spotted knocking it back as he was also seen “looking a bit wobbly last week with fellow Formula One driver David Coulthard and a couple of girlies at Umbaba.”

Montoya crashed in practice.

Juan Pablo Montoya had a smashing return to racing on Friday at Barcelona, shunting in the final minute of the day’s second practice session.

Montoya spun off the track at Turn Nine while travelling at a high speed. His car collided with the barriers and suffered heavy damage to the rear wing, engine and other areas.

"The first time I have a shunt whilst driving for this team had to happen today and I'm sorry for the guys who have to repair the damage overnight," he said.

"I don't know what happened but I just lost it."

Luckily, though, Montoya didn’t re-injure his shoulder in the accident.

"I went to see the FIA Medical Delegate afterwards and he said I was absolutely fine. My shoulder has been coping well and until the last lap everything had been going according to plan."

He added: "I'm excited about the rest of the weekend and hopefully we will put on a good show."

However, Mercedes boss Norbert Haug believes Montoya's off was “caused by him pushing a bit too hard" but nonetheless he’s “pleased that Juan Pablo is back and that he is okay."

The Colombian finished Practice Two in tenth place while his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was fourth fastest.

I think the problem with webber is that he can't pass for sh!t. And the fact that his car wasn't that fast is no excuse, people were passing relatively evenly matched cars all race but Webber did his usual thing of

"Bugger, i'm behind someone, well, i'll just sit here and then use this as an excuse for me not performing again rather than try to pass" he never even looked like he was going to pass.

Also, he held up his team mate for 3 or 4 laps who was clearly faster than him and had to stop soon!

And Fisi was robbed of second, no-one was even close to him apart from Raikonnen, fastest lap on the last lap and took like 2 laps to get past webber..... If webber had had the same thing happen to him as happened to fisi he would have finished in 15th or something...

ok, enough ranting about webber...

It's hard when you have a car which is fast through the twisties and crap on the straight. It means you catch really quickly but can't pass. The Renault of Fisi flew past Webber, 'cos he was about 20km/h faster down the straight.

It must really piss him off. Every race so far he's been stuck behind someone slowing him down, 'cos the car was too gutless to pass. That's why he's so damn fast in qualifying!

I liken it to sitting behind some guy in a V8 going up the Black Spur. He slows you down in the corners, holds you up and then floors it down the straight. It only takes you another 2 corners to catch up again and crawl through the corners. Then you get to a straight and he floors it again. It's infuriating!

I too found the race pretty interesting. It would've been better if there was more competition. Kimi had a lot more speed in that car, but there was no point him pushing once he had a 20s lead. It was pretty much the same for everyone. They were either on their own with no reason to push or stuck behind slower cars.
Good to see Kimi get a well deserved win. It's been coming for a long time.

It now seems like anyone can win on their day. Anyone from Renault, Ferrari or McLaren. And the Toyotas and BAR (when they return) can certainly fight for podiums. Really entertaining and I reckon it's the most interesting F1 has been for as many years as I've been watching.

Wow, Kimi was a man on a mission, that Mclaren just looked so solid throughout the race. His pace during the first stint was incredible, and once he realised his gap to alonso he could just nurse the car home. The Renaults looked a tad inconsistent, alonso seemed to be struggling with some tyre issues I believe (they adjusted the pressures during the stop if i recall correctly), however still very good pace and good enough to match the rest of the field. Bridgestones seem shit, the end. As for the Williams cars, now that leaves a bit to be desired. Does anybody else agree with me, in watching their cars, that they just do not look comfortable through corners? It looked like Webber was fighting under and oversteer last night, however I may be wrong. Plus the start was very poor, and with his light fuel load, the rest was pretty much history. For me I think the best achievements of the race were by the Toyota lads again, both ralf and trulli very competitive. The Toyota team have done extremely well this season, and deserve to be where they are.

Kimi was goin bloody quick! good effort, and Toyota! bout time they got some results and good on them too. Weird season still its all over the place...

regarding Neil Crompton's views on BAR...
friend was telling me on 'RPM' his views were quite contrary to wot he said just before the GP was aired on TEN...

I never saw the RPM show, however before the Race he did not say much, except explained the basics of what happened.

What I don't understand is why many BAR fans will still not watch the races. I believe it is very important to watch the other teams compete. Any true fan of the sport will still follow the races religiously.

I'm not a fan of martin or James but at least they say to what they fell and they both said last night that BAR broke the rules and they should cop it sweet.

Neil Crompton is sitting on the fence, he said last night in a great smart ass way that this isn't the first time BAR had interpreted the rules different to everyone else, he wants to say something but I think higher powers are saying NO NO NO!

How good was the Spanish director?
Slow montion video's all the time to show the tyre situation, who was bold who was ok, and a lot of incar footage which was great.
You saw Alonso changing things with the controls, Webber fighting the car and Kimi just cruising.

Great tv was the behind shot of Trulli's Toyota after the 2nd pit stop when he had a great flame or two just burst out of one side of his exhaust.

What are Ferrari thinking with fueling Michael up like that?
The only thing I can think of is that they knew the tyres weren't going to hold out and had to nurse the car until 1/2 the race was done and then see what they can do. Very disappointing, but if you read planetf1.com you will see Alonso, Kimi and Trulli expecting Michael and Ferrari to be right up there in this 19 round season.

Just kicked the tale end out (power to early or too much speed into corner) and back end on dirt Rubens into 8th or whatever it was.
Then the thing that pissed me off, he didn't even block or try to block Fisichella from passing him.

Renault, fastest lap on the last lap by Fisichella and Alonso went cold and then ok then cold back to ok.
I think they will run into problems soon.

I just wish, that Montoya didn't spin (which he caught FANTASTICALLY) and his fuel hose didn't stuff up.

not true Javed, alot of us, myself included and i know alot of my mates are not F1 supporters, we are BAR-Honda supporters, and hence no BAR no interest.

Its like Sydney Swans AFL in sydney, they dont support the AFL competition, they support the Sydney swans.

Problem is, why didn't BAR do it before and if it isn't so clear in the rule book why didn't another team do it either?

Mmmm fair enough. But if you were a swans supporter and the swans arent in the grand final, do you still not watch the match? Not a dig, but a serious question. Also, Jason you seem to hate BAR alot, Martin and James are twats and I would not trust them as far as I could throw them, their opinion means shit. The fact that Sir Frank Williams was on Fry's behalf is enough proof for me. Away from that argument, yes Montoya did look shit hot, and JPM is my favourite driver away from the BAR lads, so was thoroughly disappointed to see his fuel rig not work :( Mclaren have seemed to step up to the challenge.

I don't hate BAR, but I do dislike Jenson.
I would rather see them in it then not in it.

Javed, i guess the masses wouldnt? Well I know I didnt watch it, and a few ppl said even thought there was so much uncertainty (which keeps viewers entertained), they found it boring without BAR.

I knew that Id be bored without BAR, I mean i watch qualifying etc up til the race, but after I found out BAR werent in, I jsut found that evetything else was boring. Just my opinion and no offense taken Javed, its just me, and I think a few ppl are the same.

I have been off the F1 for a few years now, but for some reason, this year I am finding myself sitting up all hours watching the races and I love it!

I am a straight-out Schumey fan, period, but over the past couple of years it became very predictable. This year's season, whilst filled with controversy, bizarre rules, etc is probably the most ineresting it has been for a number of years and I guess that is why I have come back to it.

With regards to last night's race, everyone seems to have been waiting for that race when Mclaren would bring everything together - Spain was obviously that race! I am not a McLaren fan (haven't been since the Senna days) but f*ck me that car looked shit-hot last night both in performance and even just the general on-road presence. It is one sleek looking car!

I am finding some of the rulings to be very frustrating (like not being able to do tyre changes) and my frustrations are probably only going to increase next year with more f*cked up ideas from Max. I think that article on Page 7 of the thread that lud posted up pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

This is the ultimate motor sporting circus in the world. It is where our road cars get their technology from (without F1 we might not have our beloved VTEC)....

Channel 10 sucks. It is as simple as that! I have always said, give it back to 9! (maybe even SBS). Actually, give me the job to host it and get rid of those puppets that handle the motorsport on 10 now. I rekon we could get a nice little team of well informed guys from here that could do a much better job.

But then i guess it is just like everything in life - POLITICS

Next round might be the most boring to some people but there is always a big crash and the history at the place is terrific.

I reckon the tyre rule has proven to be a good one. I had my doubts and I seriously didn't believe they could make tyres to last a qualifying lap and 66 race laps. But I was wrong. They can do it and they have done it. I reckon it's good in a number of ways.

And Jase, you're right. Monaco is historically one of the most boring races. There is no straight. That means there is no passing. It's about qualifying, a good start and concentration. It's a race for the drivers and the teams. It's intense for them as one small mistake and that's it. But as far as watching the race goes... it's not that great.
Could be different this year, you never know. That's why I'll be watching ofcourse.

yeah, i liked the tyre changing, being able to blast out and shred your tyres on a short middle stint like schumey used to do.

As for Monaco, its a great race, but a processional one, I like watching it just to see the place. I went there a couple of years ago too, the Bus pulled into pole position and stopped on the straight haha (gotta love contiki).

I don't understand how if you're team isn't racing it can be boring, the race was great, whoever is in it. Using the footy example, I'm a Crows man myself, but i still enjoy watching any other good game, whoevers playing.

I think even Kimi had abit of a heart attack when he saw the blue smoke after his pit stop, anyone see him talking about it in the interviews?

haha, yeah, i also thought a bit of the "here we go again" when i saw the smoke from raikonnen's car. How was Trulli (?)'s fire in the pit lane though, rear jack guy would have a nice tan....

yes like I said before, theres a severe lack of strategy in the sport now....sorry spelling mistake there, not sport, "business". Tyre changes were great so much mind work just went into planning the race and so many factors were included I loved it.
LOL Kimi in first with blue smoke wouldnt of suprised him much, good the car finally got through the race for him I feel sorry at times.
And yes some pic's of those flames would be great! when they first cut to it, it didn't seem to bad cause theyd died down, but that replay! they were huge!

It was very unlike Ralf not to go for a kamikaze and punt Trulli off the track. He must've thought about it. I think he just never got close enough, 'cos if I know Ralf, if he gets a sniff, he'll dive up the inside even if it means risking a big crash. Very unlike him to be so restrained. If i was in the Toyota camp I would've been biting my nails to the wrist.

that 6 months is a suspended sentence, so only comes in if they do something wrong again....

I read on performance forums something about being able to use fuel as ballast being against the rules as well? which reads to me that any fuel in the system which makes the car up to 600kg is able to be used as ballast...= bad.

plus, someone else suggested if BAR claim that the extra tank (which i understand is a pressurised tank to allow them to run 50psi in the fuel system) does not need to be drained then why not have a 50kg pressurised tank and no other fuel tank, then you could have a car weighing 550kg! so i can see where the FIA is coming from.

Having said that, the rules didn't specifically exclude it, just a case of BAR pushing the envelope and getting caught, bad luck, shut up, go do some testing, and win some races when you come back.

I think this has all been blown out of proportion. As Hondavirgin said, BAR were pushing the envelope and they got caught. The precedent is now set and all teams now know exactly what the ruling is....

This reminds of the early Schumacher and then Schumey/Ferrari days. It seemed like almost every race he (or the team) was being acused of cheating (both with Benetton and Ferrari). He has always been pushing the limits both on and off the track. Some times he got pulled up and banned for races....that's what happens. You push the boundaries, the sport evolves, things get cleared up for everyone. That is part of the reason why he has always been at the top - he was never afraid to push.

I can see why BAR is upset, but they should have copped it sweet. Fighting with Max once the decision has been made is just fighting a losing battle, and now look what has happened. BAR are going to have to be on their best behaviour for the rest of the season now.

Its all about the meaning of the word "ballast", ie is the fuel in that smaller surge tank ballast? To BAR, it wasnt, they believe it was necessary to the cars running, ie like oil, like tyres etc, necessary, and therefore not a ballast. To the FIA, it is a ballast, and must be drained as part of the fuel system.

This meaning is the problem of the whole issue, and it is the reason why the courts could not say they were deliberately cheating, their criticism was that they didnt ask the FIA to get a ruling on it.

So in light of this, BAR basically are arguing, since it is an error made in interpretation of the rules, the 2 race ban is severe and disproportionate. IE like when Williams ran brake ducts that were deemed to be illegal, or traction control back in the day, ie they are infringements as to the meaning, therefore if they only lose points for that day, why does BAR suffer a 2 race ban.

BAR preparing for the European Grand Prix

BAR Honda may have been excluded from the Spanish Grand prix and the forthcoming Monaco Grand Prix a week Sunday, but the team took to the testing trail yesterday at Paul Ricard.

The first day of a proposed three-day test at the Paul Ricard circuit in Southern France began Wednesday morning in warm and sunny conditions. Anthony Davidson and Enrique Bernoldi driving chassis 007-01 and 007-03 respectively.

Davidson spent the morning session evaluating the new aerodynamic updates, completing a total of 63 laps. He continued the evaluation in the afternoon session, running for a further 54 laps before an electrical fault caused damage to the engine. The engine had to be changed which brought his afternoon running to a slightly early conclusion. Davidson completed a total of 117 laps today.

Bernoldi ran through a tyre casing programme in the morning session completing short runs. He continued the evaluation in the afternoon over longer runs, alongside a brake evaluation. Bernoldi’s final lap tally for the day was an impressive 171 laps.

Saving a day of testing for later in the season

BAR Honda, like all but Ferrari, intend to test just 30 days in 2005 and this morning the team announced that they would not be running at Paul Ricard today.

With rain predicted for later this afternoon, and the circuit still in the short Monaco-style layout as agreed with the other teams, it was decided to save a day's testing. The team of course will not be racing at Monte Carlo this year.

BAR Honda intend to test tomorrow when the weather is expected to improve and the circuit will be in a Montreal layout. Jenson and Takuma will drive tomorrow in chassis 007-01 and 007-03 respectively.

171 laps is mighty impressive! And I reckon Ferrari have everyright to go test more, as their essentially the only competitive team running Bridgestones, so much of their testing is tyre related. LOL these bets are going to provide some feirce battles this season!:D

Man those BAR's are sexy, same with the McLaren too.

What's wrong with the Bridgestones? Both Ferrari drivers have had car, track and luck problems this season. Michael has at times been the quickest on the track. What's the problem with his tyres?

His tyres aren't lasting, thats the main problem.
They don't heat up quick enough for the 1 dash sprint for qualifying.
And if he pushes them look what happened at Spain.

yeah exactly, they cant get going quick enough after safety car and for qualifying. Starting a few rows back has a huge affect, cause if he was infront, an overtaking move on Schumacher could be prevented. Thought it was time to update the avatar lol:thumbsup:

now its confussing with those 2 avators lol, yea well i think he can stil get up there but it would be a very bad run for alonso for the rest of the year, go kimi (cant stand alonso or trulli) and juans getting his ass kicked by kimi lol

my only wish for this season is to see Fisi win again, hopefully more than once :D

oh, and i'd like to see Michael win another title, but down to the wire, Alonso hasn't done his time enough to win yet haha.
