Falken Ziex 512 - under $200 in 17"

Pros: Really good in the dry. Excellent alloy wheel rim protector. Made in Japan. Silica compound. Low cost. Quiet ride. Impressive wear rate - despite tough life so far they are holding up very well even after 15,000kms.
Cons: Some flex in the side walls when pushed hard. Wet weather performance nothing special - just adequate. Sometimes will aqua plane (VSA in Euro works hard in the wet with these - but only if you are pushing it).
Overall: a softer luxury car tyre - will suit someone looking for good performance in the dry and excellent tread life.

*** update ** The wear went down significantly after 15,000kms. I only got 28,000kms out of these tyres. The wet weather performance got very bad even though there was legal tread. I would not buy these again.

TOYO PROXIS T1R

Awesome tires.............I have them in 215-40/17 size and despite the low profile they are as quiet as my Dunlop 205-50/16's!

Other pluses:
* They stick to the road like rails
* Incredible amount of "feel"
* Excellent tread pattern - very aggressive

Minuses
* Price!

Bridgestone B249 - ~$80ea. I'm very impressed with these tyres. They're quiet, offer good grip in all conditions, perfect for my '84 Civic. Best budget tyre I've seen. Good for 40,000-60,000km.

Bridgestones S-03!!! Bloody Fantastic tyres!!!! They're real aggressive in wet and in dry. The feel is great, response and all! Very Very predictable tyres and they go where you tell them to go.

Much better than the Goodyear F1/G3's. Although not as long to last, well worth every $ spent if you like performance. They're quiet tyres too with very low noise.

Only other tyre that compares or rather i would like to try are the Pirelli Zero Nero.

Oh by the way.. all the dunlop performance tyres are Sh*t as.

i'm curious. if the V8 supercar teams use them as the control tyre and an NSX races on dunlop direzzas in JGTC, does that mean they as 'Sh*t as' as well?

Well thats my opinion. And i was referring to those you ca get at the shops, not the special ones that you order or use for racing.

But in general, I still think they're crap - the whole Dunlop range. You don't see them on any F1 cars.

but does that mean if a tyre is not on an F1 car it is crap?

no offence, but each manufacturer may have good or bad tyres. and not all tyres are interchangable e.g. i talked to a guy from bridgestone before and he said the NSX runs well only on the OEM tyre, if you put another tyre on it it upsets the balance or something

so again, you're entitled to what you like or don't like. you may have had a bad experience with dunlops hence you feel so strongly about them. but other people may have had a different experience with them and may not feel the same way

I had falken ZE-326
NEVER BUY THEM. They were litarally made the car a deathtrap on wheels... though they never wear, I got rid of them fearing for my safety but I had about 5000km on them and they looked EXACTLY the same as when I got them.
Wet grip was horrible.

I use Kumho 712 now and they seem quite grippy. They are the best tyre I have had but I heard a lot of bad comments about them (grip wise). Any comments about them?

Next I will be getting Goodyead Eagle F1. Friend has them and reckons they are unbelievable

Bridgestone Turanza ER592 - $110ea. Great tyres!! I just got 2 for the front and they offer great grip, they're very quiet, haven't yet tried them in the wet. They're not the best looking tyre around, but I didn't want to pay for performance tyres which only last 20,000km. These should give me a good 50,000km at a minimum. I can't get my EG VTi to understeer with these tyres... I'm not brave enough.

Be warned, they're not performance tyres. But I can handle having slightly less grip in exchange for low noise and long life. I can't wait to try them out on a track day.

I'll adjust this review in a little while to let you know how they're going as they wear.

they sounds great for dry conditions but was just concerned about how they'd be in the wet and how fast they wear. my tire guy raves about them but wanted to see if anyone here had used them.

according to the falken site the rt-615's are meant to be like a gazillion times better.

Excellent grip and very quiet tyres. They cost over $200 in 16" from the Bridgstone Warehouse on Silverwater road.

Don't know, but I'm pretty sure they're not the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s I just put on my car.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 - 195/55R15 85W - $154ea. Great grip in the dry, haven't tried them in the wet yet. Mileage... can't say... softish tyre so depends how much you make 'em work. Tyre isn't loud, but it's not as quiet as Bridgestones. Can't hear it over my soft music, so it doesn't bother me.

Now I need to get some good suspension to do the tyres justice.

EDIT: I have now had the tyres a couple of months and I can say I'm very happy with them! Worth every cent so far. Dry grip is fantastic, makes my stock VTi feel very balanced. But the wet grip is excellent. I have driven in wet and slippery conditions and they stuck as though it was dry.
As long as you run the right pressure (I run at ~39 front, ~38 rear) and get some heat in them before you start pushing, these tyres stick in wet or dry.

And in reply to z3lda, sorry for the late reply, but yes the tyres fit, look good and feel even better on the road. Definitely good size for the 15x6.5".

How about Bridgestone GIII's? I got mine for $110 each. Size was 195/50/15 :)

i have 195/50/15 G3's on my 15x7 rims - fit yes. Not entirely efficient for road wear and cornering tho.

195s are fine for 6.5 inch wide rims.

Maybe Falken ST115? 140 for 195/55/15 but 195/50 should be cheaper

Can we please specify tyre type.

Ie - If it is slick/semi slick please state it... if nothing is stated Street Tyre will be asumed. :)

my tyres on me jazz are coming near the end of their life cycle, but they dont make potenza 040 anymore, i was quite happy with these tyres in both dry and wet, ive got over 70,000kms out of them so i need replacements friend offered some firenza's at around $110 a corner but not too sure about them, wouldnt really wana go over $150-160 mark

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 225/45R17 on my euro, and I quite like it. Dry performance I must say is excellent, much much better than stocko dunlop 2050M.
Wet performance, not quite happy, but definitely better than stocko as well. Ride is a bit harsher, but that's probably because of lower profile and stiff sidewall. Noise level is about the same as stocko, so couldn't complain there. Got them for $250 each. Will bring this to track next week and update you on how it perform on the track. I just wish it'll be a dry day, cause I know I definitely won't like the tyre on wet track.

I now have the Dunlop Direzza dz101's on the front now. They were $255 for 205/40/17 apparently a good price for direzza's in the size, considering some places still selling the FM901's for more than this. Suprising how much the price of tyres goes up each year! Some places were quoting me $280 for fm901's. $40 more than last year.


Thought I'd try them. I haven't had any problems, been great in the wet and dry, and they are much quieter compared to the fm901s. When the rear tyres need changing I'll probably also change these to the direzza's.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is holding very well on the track. Sidewall is stiff, didn't feel it flexing. I would recommend this tyre for daily driving and occasional track.

what are ppls thoughts on Falken Ze-326, i can get 195/50/15 for $95 each

got these recently when i bought my new rims. tested them out really well yesterday on private twisty roads with mix of wet and dry... and omg these rock! on the street they are sensational too!

highly recommend these! and for just under $200 each i think they are the best change to my car i've done so far

theres been a couple reviews of that tyre somewhere in this thread already.

I would stear clear of the Ziex series. I used to have the ziex 502 and they were absolutely attrocious in the wet. (Perhaps ok for a light car - were ok on my old 3rd gen civic) but any car that's a bit heavier, wouldn't touch them. I mean the tread seriously lasts forever, (40,000km on my set and still heaps of tread until I decided couldn't take the bad handling anymore - this was in my teg) but as soon as there was any slight amount of water on the road, was slipping and sliding all over the place. Aqua planed many a time with this tread on.

the cars got potenza 040 185/55/15 and i cant say these dont aqua-plane, they do but i always thought if it does start sliding around then your going too fast in the first place

LOL. I used to aqua plane with the Ziex tyres on the car when I was doing the speed limit, ie 70 or 80. I'd expect the potenzas you have the handle better than the ziex.

depends on what you want....cheaper tyres, or something that handles well, or something in the middle. Personally I don't care if I spend more on tyres if it saves me on the streets.

hey!!!!!!!!!! i just got ,,,,,well put it this way, i was ment to get 4 potenza g3's but something happened so i ended up getting g3's on the back, and marangoni zeta linea on the front!!! and damn boy!! they are supurb!!!!!!!!!!1 absolulty amazing, apprently they have best grip and amazing wear rates as well so thats a plus, car feels soooo much better, no wheel spin on any gears, then the previous crappy kumos i had,

has anyone else got or had marangoni's?! this is first time i had heard of them, but the guy at mathews highly recommended them and gave me good deal. I was a lil sceptical, but i just got back, went to marangoni website and there is a pic of a CTR so i'm happy =D

Wear rate of the tyre can be known by looking at the "TREADWEAR" on the sidewall of the tyre.....usually there are "TREADWEAR","TEMPERATURE" and "TRACTION".....personally anything between 180 to 240 TREADWEAR is average wear rate.....

i have a spare set of LS teg rims on my civic as a get around wheels - with dead rubber. I want to get some nicer rubber for everyday driving and some hooning inbetween - what should i be looking at in the 195x60x14 range ?!?
I could grab some cheap Azenis RT-215 in 195x60 - not bad for road use but how long would these last ?

i got quotes for 195/50/15 for good years eagle f1(made in germany), yokohama c-drive and bfg g-sports. was wondering whats the best out of the 3??...or what order would u guyz recommend them

running toyo tpg. 205/50/15. rims are 15x7. i must say they are better than i expected. fair price.

the tread grips well to the road in dry and i feel i can brake later than b4 for the same distance or i dont have to press as hard on the brakes to get the same result. corners i can take alot harder and hugs the corner alot better without signs of sliding or major understeer.

also quiet tyres. no noise that i can notice and thats going quite hard around corners.

ran track for a day .. 30+ laps. in the wet they held ok. but wasnt that special,.. but on dry they keep up nice in high speeds (rpm around red line most of the time) started to lose abit more near the end of the last session.

after track day. obivously abit worn out than b4, but still good grip and holds well also. good street tyre.

dont know how they compare to others.

I've heard many good things about bfg g-sports.
I think I heard about yokohama c-drive having weak sidewalls, but not sure.
eagle f1 (gs-d3 I assume?) is good as well, but not the best in the wet. Dry performance is :thumbsup:. I got them on my wheels at the moment.

Having being able to properly try Pirelli's new Ultra High Performance Dragon.

This is my verdict...

Got off the phone with Pirelli Australia, the wear rate is 300 out of 400, so I guess that is good wear rate.

The grip in both wet and dry conditions are fantastic I must say having used a fair bit of different tyres on cars with very much almost the same weight, the cornering, unbelievable, one of the thread pattern is supposed to assist cornering speeds and it works very well!

This tyre is still fairly new in the market so feedback is limited, but this is my opinion, I highly welcome any feedbacks from users with the same tyres...

New tyre on Dunlop's Website. It's the SP Sport MAXX. It has Silica Plus compound, which is silica plus carbon black, which should make it harder?

What about Advan Neova? I know these are really good but asked my local Bob Jane but didn't know of them.

hey i need 2 new front tyres but i dont wanna get profile 35 tyres anymore (too much hassel) i wanna move up to 40 or something and change the fronts for now since one is losing air (but its not punctured). I just got Yokohama C.Drives (I think they're the successor to the A539?) all-round on my EK1, and they're absolutely brilliant. I paid $135 a corner for 195/50/R15. Once warmed up it's near impossible to lose grip in the dry, and they hold up really well in the wet.

The only thing I can fault them on is that they're a little noisier than some others on the highway, and apparently they don't wear as well as other options due to the soft compound. I've only had mine for about 500km though, so I'll have to wait and see on that one...

What about cornering? I've heard they have weak sidewalls.

Cornering seems good, but it's hard to single things out when I'm body-rolling on stock suspension. :D

Bridgestone Potenza G3 R15/195/55

Very happy so far. I upgraded from the G2's and Im quite impressed. Theyre alot quieter than the G2's and have a very clever rim protection system that stops you scraping em if you pull in too close to the curb.

Hey Shangsta where'd you get the C-drives from? i haven't been quoted on them yet but i was quoted on the es100 @ $180 and a539 @ $160 for 205/50/15 so thought the c-drives would be more expensive.

I've got coilovers on now and the a539's are really good on corners compared to stock...(heaps improvement) with treadwear just above the indicator.

I've had these yoko's for about 47,000 k's and are really good in the wet still

i had silverstone 215/35/17 before and they were terrible, they were noisy as hell. i just got 4 new nankang NSII 205/40/17 and they're really quiet and hold really well around the same corner i used to take around my house. i used to do 60 around that corner with the silverstones and i do atleast 70 now with the nankangs. really good value for money.

ive got c-drives fitted and balanced for 140ea....quoted es100 160 i think...this is in melb btw

if ur looking at a539 get c-drives and u'll b alot happier probably same price but better then the a539 in all departments according to many reviews as it is the successor to a539 u would expect them to be better anyway.....

from experience having had a539 and then swaping to the c-drive i can say c-drive are better if not atleast equal to the a539...

I'm looking around for tyres to fit my 18x8 rims.
and the vast difference in prices for different brands of tyres make me wonder if the price is a reflection of the difference in quality or just a premium that you pay for the brand? Tyres that i'm looking at.

I had G3s on my S15 and they were a good overall tyre in my opinion.

They were not overly noisy. I had them on 18 x 9s on the back in 245s and they were fine.

Also depends in part on your budget. Do you want good wet weather traction etc or is it mostly for the dry?

about 200, per tyre ... or under 1k
half half, dry and wet..

u want a tyre with nice straight grooves down the centre, and swipes off the sides (something like the eagle1 gsd3, but with straight grooves)
