K&N Typhoon Intake for FD1

y would u cut a whole in the head shield? heat shields are useful for SRI and they help u sometimes skip a potential defect if the copper cant directly see the pod he'll think nothing of it, u have an automatic civic, u have no real power as it is, and only advanatge of CAI as oppose to SRI is its SLIGHT SLIGHT power increase, i reckn no point, just get a normal SRI (which'll sound MUCH better aswell) and leave the heat shield on, no point cutting a hole which will only be effective once in a blue moon...

If this is for the auto trans fluid dipstick, no, don't cut a hole. You don't check your ATF level as often as engine oil. If you do have to check, just take the heat shield off.

ok thanks Aaron, I think I'll leave it in tact then. Hopefully the heat shield won't be too hard to remove when it comes time to check the dipstick.

It shouldn't be, because you will have to remove it when it is time to clean the pod. So it should be designed to be removed reasonably easily.

I've noticed since I installed my Typhoon my petrol usage has increased!!! I haven't even been flooring the accelerator. Has anyone noticed the same thing?

I get 30 KMs more with my injen CAI =D

Hmm, anyone else had increase fuel consumption with the typhoon?

yeh i think i have slightly less milage as well...and some low end loss...not sure for you guys but that's what i found...i drive manual fd1...

I'm getting that too... maybe we are addicted to the higher-rpm sound? *shrugs*

For normal driving at low RPM, you are probably having to apply more throttle to get the same amount of acceleration since CAI usually causes a little bit of torque lost at low RPM due to the long piping.

it's killing me with the combination or the high price of petrol, especially since I use premium unleaded and have lots of hills and 80km speed zones that I go through. I agree Jase, I was thinking that I was doing more RPMs to get that sound and maybe doing 6000 RPM per gear change is injecting that engine through the free flowing filter with a little too much petrol.

Amazon have the fd1 k&N sri (typhoon) for US$166 .. but they won't ship to australia :(

I'm looking at getting one if I can find it cheap... if not I'll have to chose between a exhaust system and mugen replica kit.

K&N is pretty much useless...
