Tyre Recommendation thread

Just got the Yokohama C.Drives fitted. Damn they are silent! I could not pick up any tyre roar except at very low speeds of 10-20km/h. Handling-wise, the car does not lose grip and slide out anymore, but the initial turn-in with the Astra has understeer. After the short amount of understeer, the car goes back neutral again. I'm not sure if it is the suspension or whether I am expecting too much out of the Astra after driving my Euro for a long while. Roundabouts that I usually take at speeds which are comfortable without body roll suddenly induce understeer and bodyroll. Noise-wise, I would dump my SP 2050m tyres for the C.Drives. Handling-wise, I'll have to find someone who has tried it or just bite the bullet and go for them once my Dunlops wear out.

Edit: Drove more with the tyres, and now it does not have the initial understeer. It was the rubber needing to be scrubbed. For now, I can attain similar speeds to the Euro, but with tyre squeal. Eventhough it's squealing, there is still more than enough grip available as I am not losing grip eventhough I am accelerating mid corner. These tyres are good!

From wot i understand, Firestone is owned by Bridgestone. The Firehawk Wide Oval tyre, one of their street performance tyres is very similar to the BS GIII's, and apparently comes off the same production line or factory as the BS tyres. That basically means it has similar technology and production quality as the BS tyres... So for a cheaper alternative to the GIII's, u can definitely go for the Firestone Wide Oval.

Anyway, this is wot i've heard and one of the guys at my local Bridgestone Tyre Centre also told me that. So yer... look up the website and i think both tyres are on the same site.

Yeah i just got Firestone Wide Ovalś put onto my Teg last week.
So far they are a very good tyre, awesome grip!

need advise on which tyre to get for 195/60r14 ; (performance,wear,cost, where to buy)
1. yokohama c drive
2. Toyo tpg
3. dunlop fm901
or anything else better than these?? thx

For the ultimate in street tires, try yokohama ADVAN AD07's. Edw-r sells them in the traders section. $220 each for 15's not sure about 14's.

hey bro... now its toyo proxies 4... replacement of toyo tpg

if you dont wanna spend to much on tyres just for street use. the first 2 choices are good. and maybe g3 (but never tried them .. i pefer yoko and toyo)

anybody know what falken ze 215's retail for? and what else sould i be looking at in around the same price bracket?

how much would yokohama a005 racing slicks set me back???

I think the C.Drives should be a better buy over the FM901 if you are staying on the road. It's silent, reasonably priced (195/60R15 for $150 at Bondi Junction, so you can get it cheaper elsewhere) and grips better than my Dunlop 2050m's. And the C.Drive looks like a lower profile tyre for some reason. I look at my 195/60R15 and it looks like it was a 195/40R15 instead. I think it's because of the slightly wider sidewall.

thx for the advice :) but apparantly proxes 4 dont come in 14' minimum is 15'

i might go for c drive or tpg..anybody know where i can get it cheap??

thx man.. i kinda like the flower pattern more than the tpg :) btw which one is it in bondi??

I really recommend Hankook Ventus K104 Sports.
I have 215/35ZR18 on my SSS Pulsar and even in the wet they managed to provide sensational grip for medium level traffic light launches. In the dry, 6000rpm + slide your foot of the clutch sideways and they hooked up perfectly.

If you saw the drift Nationals, you would have seen the Hankook Monaro and the control it had in the wet with K104's.

I paid about 250rrp for 215/35R18's so anything in smaller sizes should be MUCH cheaper.

Also make sure that when buying lower profile tyres, that you ask the dealer what tyre pressure you should be running.
