if i was to buy the big brake upgrade slotted disks for eg/ek/dc2 the 282mm ones would i need to also upgrade the calipers?

you need to upgrade your caliper , knuckle , shave the caliper bracket by 3mm, dc2r/ek9 master cyl and brake booster and brake pads

is it worth doing or should i jst do a dc2r 5 lug
