I've had both, my opinion is that if you push the tyres regularly then you'll get better wear from 595 EVOs as I found RE001s wear fast when pushed. RE001s are silent where 595 EVOs have some noise if you're picky, but these tyres are classed as UHP (Ultra High Performance) and that's the compromise, but you may not even notice the noise at allQuote:

Hi everyone. Need help. Been reading many forums and reviews on tyres which just confused me even more. Even some reviews contradict one another.
Anyway, I am due for new tyres. I have a 1999 Civic Coupe with 17" aftermarket rims. I currently have 7 year old Nexen N3000s in 205/40/17 size on them, and whilst they still have some tread left, they have become noisy as all hell. They have to go coz the road roar from these tyres are making me deaf. This means one of the primary criteria is my new set of tyres must be QUIET.
I've always had good experiences with Yokohama tyres (having had A509 and A539 on a Mitsubishi in the past), so I looked at the current range of Yokohamas. My tyre size of 205/40/17 is proving to be abit of a pain though, as it doesn't seem to be a very common size. I was looking at the Yokohama A.Drive.R1 but when I rang a shop to ask about pricing the dude said they are not quiet tyres at all, and proceeded to recommend the Kumho KU21 or Falken 912...which incidentally were both alot cheaper than the Yokos. Upon researching the KU21, it doesn't even seem to come in 205/40/17 size so not sure why the tyre dude even suggested them to me. The Falken 912 does come in my size, and he promised me they are very quiet. So will they be a good choice to go for?
Also open to other suggestions of course, so I can read up about them. Any help appreciated!! Would like to get this done this week if possible while I am still on holidays.
Try to look for Nitto Neogen 225/45 r17. a quiet type but aggressive tire. Its also all-season tires. Bang for the Buck. :)

Just a short review. Was on OEM Dunlop Sport 2050a on my original 205/55R16. Have just changed to Conti SportContact 3's however on new rims 225/40/18. After about 500km, here's my thoughts.
-Grip definitely improved. Dry or wet. Part of the reason could come down to the extra width though.
-Noiser. Was driving on the freeway yesterday, as per norm, found that tyre roar/road noise was louder, to the point where I'ld turn the volume up a level louder than usual. Not noticeably different on anything 80km/h or below though.
-Very compliant ride. Especially considering I went from 16s to 18s, ride hasn't gotten any worse. Do note that I was running my older tyres at above recommended PSI (36-38 instead of 32) because they had excessive wear on the outsides, so that maybe a reason.
-Turning Circle has definitely increase (maybe caused by increase width of rims?)
Overall impression: Their Ok, but nothing special. I'ld be looking at Nitto Invo next time round.
Ok, just a short update on my review above on Conti Sport Contact 3.
Worse road tyres ever. I've found that the CSC3's require some temperature before they will perform at their best, which is fine for enthusiast but for day to day driving, you get no where near it. Conti's rate the temp required as A, which means you really need to be spirited, and I mean mountain past type hard accelerating and braking type driving to get them up to those temps. W/e temps, their nearly as bad a slicks. Was entering a round-a-bout, the road was a bit bumpy and wet (although it had stopped raining) yet the car understeered. Was only doing around 40kph, and was turning the wheels a slight left (about 1/8 of a turn), was using engine braking in 3rd gear so there shouldn't have been any understeer at all, and yet there was. Road noise is still horrid with these tyres, I was hoping that they would quieten down when they wore in, but I've done over 10k km and their still bloody noisy.
My advice, if your not going to do any track or hard driving, stick to High or, at most, Ultra-High performance tyres. Max and Extreme Performance tyres really aren't made for daily driving.

I'm running 36-38Psi (high at front) on 225/45R18. Their worse than my Dunlops which were only 205 wide. I did read the reviews before hand, which was why I chose it, however you really need to take reviews with a lot of salt, especially ones made by random people. The thing is, a lot of people who had CSC3's as OEM tyres from factory (e.g. with Merc C class etc) end up cheaping out and buying the cheapest tyres they can find to replace them. I kid you not when I say about 80% of the C-Class I've seen out there (half driven by Indians, no offense) end up with Kumho or Bob Jane or some Korean/Chinese recycled brand that I've never heard off on it, simply because they finance the car to show off, as asians do, while are really cheap sakes. As such, they find that their cars are suddenly so much worse that it makes the CSC3 seem god sent. Comment: Well my family has been with Bridgestone for a long time now and recently the old ER30 [Still in production apparently?!] look very much worse for wear [Front were slicks, rear were semi-slicks] needed to be replaced. Talking with my parents, they wanted to see if any other tyres were worth trying but Yokohama and Goodyear didn't offer something that they wanted [Comfort and Safety above all else] so it was back to Bridgestone.
Its been ~3yrs since they've had to replace the ER30 and Bridgestone has released quite a few new tyres that could suit their needs. Talking with Bridgestone Castle Hill, Ian recommended from memory Ecopia EP100 or the Serenity Plus EL64. Parents went with Serenity Plus EL64.
Initial impressions are... WOW 10yrs difference in tyre technology, EL64 is so smooth and sexy even with the rubbish/worn Pedders shocks & springs. It's dead silent and handles imperfections nicely. I will update this when we hit 1000km =)

Updated Comment: So its been ~1mth with a variety of weather and road conditions with no issues thus far. I'm happy with its dry weather performance and comfort, being all season tyres the outright grip can't be compared to the likes of Summer Tyres but compared to others, I believe they handle themselves very well.
In the wet, I have much more confidence than before. Wet braking performance has increased dramatically [This was before and after brake pad swap and fresh brake fluid]. Traction control was necessary sometimes because it was horrendous no matter how much you modulate the accelerator >< Now with these, I can almost plant it and no issue what so ever even at speed [90kph on James Ruse Dr] in the wet for test sake, I had no aquaplaning/tracking issues =)
good tyres for street but track days every once or twice a year????
205/45/15 ?? budget under $170 ??

Still need help? 205/45R15 are rarely to nearly not existing. Are you sure that's the right size? If you care about noise consider one of the bigger brands, or stick with the Ultra High or High performance range, and not the Extreme or Max performance range. Yoko's are known for making really quiet tyres, something like the S.Drives are alright, not the best track tyre, but decent, or consider Nitto Invo if your on a budget which are fairly quiet and grippy. Unfortunately Noise is proportional to grip, so don't expect anything semi slick to be grippy.Quote:

40 profile may improve acceleration slightly, due to the wheel being smaller overall, and feel from the tyre will be sharper, but the width is what makes the difference in grip, assuming you're getting the same tyre. Yoko's have typically been tuned for quietness, which is why the they seem lacking in grip compared to else is available in it's class. Having said that, you've been on the A.Drive, so just about anything will have more grip than it (assuming not eco and is in a performance category of some sort). If you liked the A drive, could consider the S.Drive, which is the performance version from Yokohama, or consider Bridgestone RE050a, Nitto Invo or Khumo KU36.Quote:

If you're not going to push it at all, might consider something like KU31 [Kumho], C-Drive/S-Drive [Yoko] :)

In some circles they say they are an awesome cheap tyre, better than ku31 apparently. Even good for track days, but said to be shit in the wet.

I was offered them once. So I've done a bit of reading. Some swear by their bang for value, and for road use, I guess it's fine, especially if you're a granny. People who have taken them to the track have cried about their build quality, with the tread coming off in chunks and side walls ripping.
