yeah me too
i want to take my eg down there next year but i dont know if it will be legal with the motor swap
errmm so Vicroads website is lying? It's quite black and white, it's legal to drive a DC5R on P-plates, considering I know people that have full comp LEGAL insurance on their DC5R on P-plates..and Vicroads have approved it..I don't understand where you get the information that it's ILLEGAL
ooo motor swap could be another story dude, might wanna ring the authorities on that one
BUT i will say this, im assuming you a have B16 in your EG? its still a 1.6L NA so i cant really see there being any problem as the capacity hasnt changed
also, whos gonna know except a honda enthusiast? it'll just look like another red B series..
its not vic roads you have to worry bout its the boys in blue pulling you over (the ones that no there stuff) happend to mate who can according to vic roads drive a vs exec 5l , got shafted in it by cops apperently they have some sort of lise of cars and yer he tried to take it to court an lost.
and just to clarify something, the new victorian laws are
p platers cannot drive a turbo charged or a v8 car
even if its less than the power to weight ratio of 8kg per kw... which is also 125kw per tonne
regardless if you got your p's before july 2008 and regardless if your on red or green p's!
Here is the list.
If you got your P license BEFORE 1st July 2007, you use the power to weight ratio:
http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/node/199
That means no DC5R, no S2000, but you can drive a V8 if it is under 125kW/tonne
If you got your P license AFTER 1st July 2007, you use the banned vehicle list:
http://www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au/node/197
This means you can drive the DC5R and S2000 but you cannot have a V8, eventhough the V8 is a 1.0L and makes only 50kW.
I recommend you print out the page that is relevant to you and keep it in your car. It would have helped your mate if the VS 5L V8 was under 125kW/tonne, that he got his Ps before 1st July 2007 and he had a copy of this document with him to show the cops.
Edit: VS Exec 5L has 168kW and weighs 1448kg, giving 116kW/tonne. So IF he got his Ps before 1st July 2007, it would be legal to drive that car on Ps.
ok all this is a little contradicting each other
i've spoken to a cop about this and this is what he said...
from JULY 2008 (thats when the p plate system got split into red and green)
no v8's no turbo's AND power to weight still applies!
they have a list of cars that are not permitted for p platers to drive BUT even tho the DC5R JUST exceeds the power to weight ratio limit its not on there! however the DC5S is!
i thought the only had a list of hi powered six cylinders and any NA 4 cyl is all right.
see what you says go against the new rules that have been posted up earlier. im not saying your lying im just pointing out how confusing this system is.
for example that VS exec 5L is illegal under the new laws, yet was legal according to the old power to weight system. i mean wtf
