Being labeled a 4WD isn't going to do much when the HRV was delivered with road tyres.
nah its not a true 4wd... never was.
this on the other hand, is a true 4wd.

Lolz. I remember seeing a pic of a Challenger with the sticker, "Landcruiser and Prado bogged rescuer" on the rear windshield.
True that the HRV was never a real 4WD but for some reason redbook advertise it as one:
Wagon 5dr CVT 1sp 4x4 1.6i
Back then, anything that gave power to the rear wheels, even temporarily, was labeled a 4x4. Now we have 4x4 (50-50 split, symmetric AWD) and AWD (variable split).
I have a HR-V, 99 model, It has a CVT auto Transmission which has been replaced because they are prone to be un-reliable, as many others can tell you.
$1000 to $5000 to replace this!
So get the manual version to save hassle & get more power & control & They are cheaper!
The car is underpowered for its all round size ( weight / tyres / height ) 1.6 litre civic engine Single overhead cam only.
If you turn a corner fast, the car will slide like a front wheel drive, but if you keep accelerating & turning the rear wheels will start to work & the car comes out of its death slide, but in the wet this does not work well & you will keep sliding.
Yes, it has all the great features & I have seen them from $10, 000, I paid $11K with 100kms
lol since this thread is back up can't see the harm in contributing :p does anyone get the shits when you turn the ignition and the HRV tries to deafing you with the pre warning beeps (? made that up can't think of the proper name) it's like full on BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!!!
Find where the speaker for the BEEP is ( its in the front dash on right side ) try to locate cable & detatch from the speaker itself.
Problem solved!
I agree the beep is horrible & loud. But not as bad as the accelaration of the HRV! The HRV has low body roll on corners & it fly's over speed bumps, if only Australia got the 3 door model with Vtec standard? would be a great fun car.
man.
i wish i had the balls and the funds to do a K series 4wd airbag job to it.
hehehe I only hate HRV's for the CVT's in them, I quite like the shape though
Recently bought a HRV (Last week infact) and am reasonably happy with it. Little 2 door silver one, manual. As already mentioned it is a little under powered (not that I want to go racing it, I have a HSV for that!) but I wouldn't mind getting a litte more poke in it.
Can anyone suggest some small mods that can be done to it, just to give it more oomph!
Cheers.
