they're actually pretty handy if u need to drive early in the monrings when its FREEZING... Just turn heating and demister on b4 i leave the car, next day wake up and start it up while i'm shaving breaky, then get in a nice n warm to to drive to work.
We've had a remote start ever since we got our car (which was like 7yrs ago) and not a single problem with the alarm, nothing abt engine not starting or anything like that. If its wired properly then the alarm should also be hooked up to the handbrake. As in the remote start wont work if the handbrake is down (shouldnt hav it down in the first place, but apparently u can also get fined for having the handbrake down and not being in the car. So all the more reason to hav the bandbrake up when your not in the car). Also if the car is remote started and you dont put the key in the ingition but try to drive it (ie put the bandbrake down) engine shuts off.
But as someone mentioned earlier, its not a necessity but its convenient if u got it.
