im running 215/35/18s on my car YES it is a bit of ova kill but its wat i like...the car doesn't go as hard but im not worried i think the BLING factor makes up for the loss inm pwr and Trq.

I wouldn't have thought you'd loose anything in performance in acceleration that is, by changing to 205/40/17 as your rolling distance is basically the same. You'll loose a little off your top speed though as the wider rubber will create more drag both on the road surface and greater air-resistance. However this would be totally irrelevant since top speed would be above legal speed limits unless your in the NT ;-)
Going to 215/40/17s you'll notice a very slight difference as you'll be geared a little taller. A car I had a few years back failed it's safety for scrubbing tyres so unless you want to roll the inner lip, you're probably best with the 205s.
