when i bought my car, it had a hacked stock airbox.
i have since replaced it with a K&N pod on a pipe.
THERE IS A DIFFERANCE. Not only in noise, but power. the car was never dyno'd or anything, but you can feel and hear vtec kick in. from idel to 5500 its fairly quite (just a slight intake noise) but once you hit vtec, it sounds like a motor bike (very cool :D)
the injen item might be good (and i'd have to agree, one of the best intakes for the DC5) but limits your driving. i'm not sure about you, but having a pod right down in the front bar, i sure as hell wouldn't be driving it in a rain/dirt.
sure i agree that the SRI isn't the BEST thing you can get, but it beats a stock/hacked airbox, and is cheaper then the mugen/Injen items..... if your that worried about heatsock, you can make up a cover for it. if your handy with fiberglass/metal, just use the stock airbox mounting points, and wipe someting up. i'm still to do this... but once i get time, i'll be onto it.
also, has anyone seen the MASSIVE gap next to the airfilter... the one that goes thru to the wheel arch??
but look at it this way. $700-900 for the mugen/injen items... or $300 for a decent pod-on-a-pipe set up. unless your planning on much larger mods in the future, and track work, the SRI does the job better then the stock/hacked airbox.
don't bother with a SRI unless it's fully partitioned from the engine bay and has a cold feed, just wait for a hot day and you'll find out the full effects of heat soak
you could try moving the battery and putting the filter there with a partition
from experience on dc2`s some of my mates went back to drop in filters like trust and spoon because of their gains.
no experience on the dc5 though.
i`ve k&n`s gruppem and it`s as good as expected from gains to sound.
my mate has the mugen version in his dc5 but needs to get a proper feed on to it.
around $200 difference in both.
i wouldnt say big difference in power.Quote:

it lags under 5000rpm.
and thats with a mugen bonnet which has a scoop and 2 vents.
but i gotta say. the noise just sends a shiver to my spine.
forget the hondata mod and drop in filters.. i had those and gains arnt much
just get an injen, under $500 and your best bet, great sound and extra pull
Gruppe M intake = ] cant go wrong
Gruppe M is even more expensive than the Mugen though...
gruppe M is better but more than double the price of the INJEN
