I disagree. I reckon God likes motorsport. That's why he blessed so many drivers with balls the size of coconuts and comprised of steel.

Just a quick word of warning, dont go buying cheap lugs from the states.. im sure you all know that brands like VMS and Vision are crappy alloy lugs that will break threads at the first sign of heat or tention... i through out a set of 18 brand new lugs after i felt the quality and nearly lost all my wheels at winton. metal lugs or work/rays all the way
There are places on a car where weight versus strength should not be a consideration. Lug nuts is definitely one of them.
Good old english language again. We walk through a doorway, we look through a window. But when we throw something out, it's either been thrown out or we threw it out.
(sorry Bennet, not pickin' on ya) Through and threw, all sounds the same.
Would personally stick to Steel Nuts if your going to continue prolonged racing at Winton IMO, my Work Nuts (Open Ended) are starting to show signs of wear as you tightened them up, would possibly pay to bite the bullet and get Steel Nuts and that way it's done with.
Then again depends what your budget allows.
Good post bennet, good to alert others.
My Work open ended nuts are pulling up ok so far, apparently they can strip when drifting but thus far mine seem to be doing fine :)
Great build. well done @ Winton too :)
HAHAHAH. I do appreciate those kind words. Well in no time your going to be cutting into the 1:46's that for sure. Hoped u enjoy the thrill of crushing turbos around the corners. Its a great feeling :D
All i can advise is get out there as much as you can. Try a wet race day ;)
what yellow bar? How about not wasting time criticising peoples grammar and either stick to the topic or keep your spam posts to yourself?
nice build thread... really enjoyed reading it haha :)
Didn't really recognise your car at Winton though :(
What group was it running in?
Whoa, just randomly found your build thread and spent the last hour reading it at work lol (something's wrong with the net here, takes 30seconds to load a page zzzz).
You're progressing heaps fast! Saw your car in person at the fail Honda meet last weekend. Was curious of what engine you had under the hood ahahha. Very nice car, keep it up!
apparently the owner resembles a mop?
Gettin car ready for japan relief meet

So Bennet...have you seen the light now?
Great build
You sure don't waste time
still can't get over this build, so fast and too the point :D
tdm all the way
Just thought i would write a quick update, well since the last trackday at winton it was clear that a brake upgrade was in order. I was only able to get one lap out of the drums, which was frustrating but understandable. Not knowing the first thing about brakes, and there OEM replacements/compatibilty, Ievaq8 has come and saved the day. He showed me different setups and explained the whole thing to me. While some of the information took a few weeks for me to fully grasp, i finally got the jist. I picked up a DC2R Brake master cylinder and booster from Eddie @ Seeker Motorsport yesterday, thanks to a hook up from Huy :) Also ordered HEL braided lines from the UK. Everything else from pads to prop valves and conversion all comes from Tom. So you can see how I am forever in his debt.
Next Winton day is 9 days away, and if all goes to plan with the brakes im hoping to 'brake' into the 1:48's
Ill put some pictures up soon
Haha love the "braking" into 1:48 pun there :P
Easily do able considering yours times in 1:49 :)
Tampered cant wait, see ya there!!
idea. Weight reduction mod. Get a haircut.
Awesome build man! Amazed at how quickly you got it to where its at now. Nice work at winton too btw. Great to see you're enjoying on the track and good to see another daily drive also being tracked.
Massive fail on the brake upgrade last night....
I do apologise bennet....
Will have it sorted out by the weekend....
Winton is saturdayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy i believe...
Yeah unfortunately winton will have to pass. but im really not to fussed :)
I just ordered in a Bluetooth GPS Reciever for my mobile, which I can get accurate lap times with
so im going to be saving $40 a weekend and doing Test & Tunes... thanks for all your support guys
Seeing as though Im not tracking tomorrow, and im on lunch break at work. I thought I may do a quick little update
Well to begin Oxer told me to get a short shifter to match my LONG FLOWING HAIR. lol... PURCHASED!
And speaking to DC5R legend Charger, I have just gone down the road of my own timing at track days.. I wanted to save cash and have more track time. Doing some research for compatibility with 'Harry's Laptimer Pro' It would appear I have found a good Bluetooth GPS kit :)
within 0.05+/- of a second accuracy... PURCHASED!
hey bennet what pads are u using? Im on the hunt atm, but srs confusion with it LOL.... track/street pad
Lol full Moderator sesh :)
Ben u have a PM btw.
UPDATE:
Well where to begin... I am eternally greatful to Tom for busting his ass off for me and my lil civic. No way in hell would I be able to suss out what parts were needed, let alone how to tighten the bolt of the handbrake cable.. haha.
So a massive thanks and many hugs go to the direction of him and his dog Chino. Best bloke!
The new setup is 100 times better than the drums and granny spec front disks from factory. I am now finding excuses to brake hard - Over shooting my street on purpose, aiming my car a lamp posts, vearing towards park cars - any reason for me to jump on the anchors.. :) hehe
Police must love me - I am the complete opposite of a hoon.. no power mods, great brakes and impeccable manors.
Heres a couple of pics of the front brakes and our EK's:

Also big thanks to King Ox for his EG rear assembly, chris sleeve for honda parts and his loud rattle gun :)
good work team
also did the dude send out the shifter yet?
Nah, sorta glad.. Auction got cancelled, he had no stock. Oxer is upset tho :)
im gonna slap you... If you actually buy one..
Another quick update...
I've had some bad luck in the last week. Pulling my hair out each time I miss another test & tune day. I know my cars capable of pulling a second off my PB, but unfortunately I keep hitting hurdles the days leading up to winton.
Pretty much, I chucked on my semi slicks on Wednesday last week to get an alignment and the damn rear wheels were wobbling. Took me ages to figure out what it was. First, bad hub - second, wheels not balanced - third, tyre squirming... To finally realize that the 2 spacers on the rear were throwing the rims balance off.
What I didn't realize was this wobbling was happening last track day, without me seeing it in the rearview. So I'm lucky nothing frushed up.
So now I have to fork out another $150 on new extended wheel studs and hub centric spacers... Fml
Once this is done.. I'm not touching the civic for a very long long time.. I have another project to focus on in the meantime. Type R Special haha
I'm pumped to see this Type R special, civic build is coming along nicely though :D
-- So I'm lucky nothing frushed up. --
Nice little reference ^^
damn thats bad to hear, should have gotten extended studs and wheels spacers before =P hit up garasi auto, they helped me heaps
What wheel nuts you using
Apparently that rays ones aren't very good. I'm running mc guard which has a small washer on the base of the nut which prevents the nut from moving over time. Was $200 a set.
wow $200 for nuts... shiet u got game :)
Im happy with my D1's never had a problem with them.
$45 well spent
Eweeewwww cheap nuts. In my experiences they snap easy lol. Too easy.
did a 1:48.14 at winton :) but having a few issues now
chauster is right about the nuts rays isnt very track material and i would highly recommend on the mc gaurds nuts as well the price may be steep but in the end its worth every penny
Yeah fair point
150 for them at otr on westall gogogo, unless u want the black ones 160 =)
inb4 which r thread
cannot believe this thread has become about wheel nuts.. hahaha Everyone just buy D1 nuts, they are fine on track, cheap to buy, 4 colours, and a ozhonda mod sells em
We're on track for November Bnet ;)
Hey Bennet were you at Winton last Sat?
Thought I would make an update as it has been sometime.. After 2 months trying to sort out what tyres to run, and having tirerack constantly shutting me down with new regulations that big brands like Hankook and Dunlop will not allow them to ship items internationally anymore. I thought I would try my luck to save some cash and sell off my 6UL's and Advan Ao48's to make way for new enkei rpf1's and some more extreme track compound tyres. Well the end result was a big FAIL. 14" rims didnt clear and I had to sell the Enkei's after 2 days of them arriving from the States.
Anyway besides my fail in the shoe department, I had made an order from JDMYARD from their firesale. Received new Function 7 LCA's and RDA slotted rotors to fix my warped discs in the front. Since fixing the only 2 problems I had with the car, being the brake shudder and torn blox bushings - life has been boring :P.. I dont think I have ever owned a car where there is nothing that needed fixing or replacing, I was left contemplating selling the car (I know how stupid is that).
In my writting style I will as usual cut to the chase - I was with my track buddies (WONTONS) and everyone was going to head down to Tampered's Winton day on the 26th of August. With 2 weeks preperation time, I decided I would just give up with going for more PB's and just have fun. My thought was lower the car, drive on my enkei 92's with stretched Nankangs and take it down for an alignment. The goal was to hopefully get a 1:55, but honestly I wasnt confident at all, as these tyres on the street have honestly sucked. I always complain about them in the wet, with 60kw of power the still lose traction with light throttle - and in the dry I've just always considered them to be mediocre, just always thought of them as bob jane cheapies. Considering I paid $50 a corner I really wasnt to fussy with what I was getting.
So with heavy as fek wheel, shitty hard compound Nankang commuter tyres and derpy grin it was off to Winton. Stayed the night at Benalla with 10 other WONTONS, a case of beer, bottle of whiskey, pack of uno cards and 20 Litres of 98 octane in a jerry can it was an uncomplicated trip. Still only managed to get in 4 hours sleep - sorta defeats the purpose of staying overnight, but atleast it skips the early morning drive.
Got to the track - set up shop, found out reservoir cover socks are now a scrutineering fail (lol) and lined up in the dummy grid...
First session the EK did a 1:57 (which I was thinking ok - its got more in it, but how much)
Second session 1:54 (with passenger, at this stage I was starting to feel the limits of the tyres)
Third session 1:52 (removed passenger, passenger seat, drained washer fluid lol :P)
Fourth session I had an enlightenment, I started to use the Nankangs in my favour, throwing them into corners catching it mid corner. It allowed me to get back on the power straight away and landed a 1:49.3 - yeah I know that was a BIG enlightenment haha
Anyway in a nutshell - I think driving on crappy tyres compared to Semi Slicks has taught me alot, really developed my skills on track and if you can believe it a day that was just a joke with the car too low and heavy rims, more aimed at a photoshoot than a track day the car was only 1 second of its PB with super lightweight rims, proper track tyres and perfect height to complement lcas/sway etc.
heres a quick vid for you visual folk:

absolutely top job. i wish i kept my EG.
the new car will be on the tracks soon. keep an eye out for the number plates.
