just under the steering column.. from memory it could be brown
fuel pump is a bitch of a job :)
does anyone else here do track days etc. in thier LS? Im looking for some new shocks and wanted some opinions/recomendations for different shocks. Im looking at the Koni yellows, kyb agx or pedders sport. leaning towards koni sports. anyone have these on there DA?
Regards, Jeff
yeh found it its brown under the steering column
mines a aftermarket one its not a denso....
as for ur shocks and susie i would like to try doin a few track days i think it would b good fun..
i was looking at the tein, or maybe skunk2 ones
they were on us ebay.
i had bilsteins in my supra and they were the best...
i think out of ur choices koni be the best.
teins r good (but im only comparing this to supras).
back on the gearboxes for a second, wat gearbox came standard on the da9, 89-91 and 92-93? are they different?
not forgetting that theres s1 short and long ratio and YS1 short and long ratio....
how do u tell a ys1 short ratio?
not too sure how you could tell without having the gbox on the car
but my s1 does about 95kms in 2nd gear and my ys1 does arund 110-115 give or take
Same gear ratios, the only difference is the input shaft diameter, which means that the clutches are identical except for the clutch disk which is the same as 92+ b-series vtec boxes.
You can't tell the ratio's from the stamp. Pull it out, put an axel in and figure it out by hand.
mine mite b long coz its only like 3000rpm at 100kmph
the LS gearboxes are all long.. you wont get a short ratio gearbox in an LS as standard unless its been changed somewhere in its lifetime.
has anybody here put a lsd in their da?
180sx has but he said he can't feel the difference hahahahah which i dun think its true
maybe he just put it in his boot. lol
hahaha nah i just think he hasn't push his car around the corners hard enough to notice...
i couldn't tell the different with most of the "mods" , some people tell the different even with a C pillar installed, i can't feel shit even with the roll cage.......the only different that i can tell with the lsd is the wheels don't keep spinning when i launch (with a brass button clutch), when cornering, hmmm ... may be it helps a little, but not as good as what people said
adam, i am looking forward to see your 5 studs LS :D , will catch up with u soon
when r u coming back!?!?!?!? hey found my razo knob yet?
If you can't notice it when cornering, you aren't cornering very hard. In tighter turns I get nothing but inside front wheel spin and i'm sure everyone else with an open diff will agree.
SKREMN: Should have gotten solid radius rods (i.e. traction bars) at first sign of wheel hop - ah well.
Hi guy~ I just like to enquire somethings. Any1 here using Coilovers Suspensions for Da9? Can some one recommend me?
Because i went to the garage today, and the mechanic said that Dc2 coilovers can't fit onto Da9. So is there anyway that i can get my suspension done?
Depressed
if not being able to fit coilovers to your car depresses you.... id hate to see what you would do in worse scenarios......
I think you got it wrong mate... what i meant was the garage doesn't have any coilovers that he can recommend me for my Da9... so i was wondering if anyone here can recommend me some brands... (other than D2s)...
He did recommend me HSDs coilovers but only have stock for DC2... so can it fit a Da9?
He has stock for Koni(yellow) for DA9... but at the end of the day with all the money spent... its not a coilover... Pardon me on Konis... are they good enuff? will i be able to choose my own spring rate for this?
Thats why i'm so troubled
.....
the bit under the suspeion with blue writings on it thats the fork u need
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...8022008140.jpg
honda wreckers, they aren't exactly uncommon
I run DC2 coilovers with DC2 front shock forks. They work fine in the front, the rear is lower than stock but height adjustability removes that issue.
ohhh... okok... like other forum-ers said... for the front i can get DC2 or EK front lower fork... as for the rear i can use a DC2 coil over... just need to adjust the height as DC2 coilover are shorter than Da9...
They will work perfectly rite?... sorry man... i know nuts about suspension... you guys have to help me here...
P.S. Pardon me for my ignorance
DC/EG/EK coilover will all fit on DA
if u use DC/EG coilover, u need :
(FRONT) : DC/EG front folk (REAR) : DC/EG lower control arms
if u use EK coilover, u need:
(FRONT) : DC/EG front folk (REAR) : DA stock lower control arms with abit of bushes grinding (few mm's)
** the DC/EG/EK rear coilover are shorter than the DA one, so u might have to adjust it to the max height to keep it balance **
hope it helps, cheers
The above information about using DC2 coilover is WRONG. You DO NOT need to change rear lower control arms unless you are using DC2R style rear shocks.
alrite man..relax
lOl! e-thugs =P
looks like my b18a's bottom end is gone after a new engine most likely >_<
huh? how so?
i wanted to start saving for my b18c but i gotta do a fuken water pump and timing belt now
brisbane not 100% sure yet but theres been a few things wrong if it costs to much im just gona wreck it ive had alot of money saved up already to get a type r ill just postpone that and by a hilux for work and start saving again
done the big end bearing need a complete motor so im thinking of just wrecking it or selling as is
there not worth rebuilding to be honest u can pick em up for 600 bucks
yeah i know but after getting another motor and putting it in the costs would add up
plus i wat to get rid of it now and i wont be able to sell it for much
do u mind i ask y your selling it
or is it only because of the motor shitting itself?
I HAVE A QUESTION
is the crankshaft pulley left hand thread or is mine ****ING tight
i snapped 1x breaker bar and 1x 19mm socket and bent another breaker bar
thanks guys
yeh becaus of motor shitting itself i got a quote so i might put an engine in and put it up for sale want to get rid of it
i didnt think so because all commodores and shit ive done havent been left hand thread...
loctite make the freeze and whatever its the product freezing below 45 degrees
I wouldn't go by what another engine has. It'll just be threaded so it doesn't come undone with the engine torque.
its fuken stupid
its fair enough if u dont have to take it off
but most cars rnt left hand thread because u need to take them off once its tight its tight
because u just put a breaker bar on it and against the crossmember and crank the engine and that does it for u
Hi Guys,
Wondering how many ppl here are using B16s or B18Cs for DA9 here?
Want to change my engine but do not know which one i shd go?
If i get a B18C it will cost a bomb. A b18C2(dc2 VTIR) i'll need to change the engine to a B16 head. Else a B16 with EK9 Cams and valve springs. Which do you guys recommend?
Or is there anyplace that you guys know of that i can get 2nd cheap engines in WA?
Sighhhhhh
i dont know anyhing about the ek9 cams and valve springs, but i do know about a b18c in a da9!
fkn awsome daily driver, great power increase from stock da9 (b18a?) and wit a few extra mods u will have a very nice da9.
im more then welcome to watch u do the conversion....
they pop up... the cheap b18cs....... u just gotta know where to look and what your looking at..
try get a front cut because if u need extra parts like small things u will b able to take them off the front cut where if u get a engine u will ave to hunt around and stuff for one... its cheaper gettin a cut
random dc2r parts come up for sale all the time, u will have to get in quick and have a bit of $$$ to get a entire dc2r front.
imo- source the b18c2 front, do the conversion and slowly along the way add the extra dc2r parts that u want. most of the dc2r parts that u would want (that make any difference ie:KW) for the b18c2 are parts u can get aftermarket anyway.
why would you need to change the B18C2 to a B16 head?
beats me, i think he meant the ls/vtec setup?
If you guys realise... B16 engine vtecs is more effective than the B18s (this applys to none type R b18c)
But the B18C type R engine are using similar head as the b16. that gives more torque and vtec and is pretty much more effective.
In other words... putting a b16 head onto a B18c2 is like a cheaper way to get a type R thou its power and torque loses to an orignal Type R by a wee bit...
doesnt it bump up the compression ratio aswell. i thought thats y u get more power....
does the vtir dc2 have a lsd in the manual gbox?
type r parts arent that common and if they r there bs expensive coz its got a red rocker cover :P
Wouldnt using a b16a head to increase compression in a b18c be a disaster waiting to happen?
you lose compression with a b16a head in comparison to the b18c2 head
not really its probly not that much its only 10:1? i think
its not really that high basicly u just dont want detonation to occur which can be monitored and u can lower the compression if ur really worried by a thicker head gasket.....
u just run a higher octane fuel which will help with the detonation because the higher the octane the slower the burn.
there is not much difference in power with a b16a head or b18c head.
check this out for proof

Excellent website link

B18C1 - Combustion Chamber Volume 41.60 (cc per cylinder)
B16A/B - B18C5 - Combustion Chamber Volume 42.70 (cc per cylinder)
LOL
mmm the plot thickens whats the offset and all the rest of the details for a da9?
Sorry to differ... there is a difference between JDM B18C to B18C1/2/3/4... its not about power but about the torque
to add on... those type R DC2 in aussie we are getting... the engine is a de-tuned JDM B18C type R engine... in which they called it b18c7 in aus or c5 for usdm... both C5 and C7 is running @ 193 PS/189 hp (141 kW) @ 8200 rpm & 127 ft·lbf/172 N·m @ 7500 rpm
but the JDM B18 C is @ 200 hp (150 kW) @ 8,200 rpm Rev-limit: 8,900 rpm
134 ft·lbf (182 N·m) @ 7,300 rpm with a Compression: 11.1:1...
my apologize if i've offended anyone here... because lately i've spoken to a fren who is a mechanic from japan his the one who told me this... and i understand from it. btw he works with SPOON... (daym it how lucky can a guy like him get)
Searched in this thread, and in the main search, sorry if its been asked before.. Will a stock EG steering wheel fit on my DA9? Theres one for sale and my steering wheel is getting a bit old, thinking about upgrading but dont really want to go to a sports one just yet. Has anyone fitted one to a da9 before? Thanks
Hi Guys just wondering what oil you'd use in a 170,000+ K's motor??
Yeah, I was gonna get after market but I think they look a little out of place, I kind of like my plain interior for now, looks a little cleaner, but thats just personal taste I suppose. Just wondering cause I found the eg one cheap. I might ask about it tonight when I go get my springs :). Thanks
u can get a cheap nice wheels out there which dont look ricey....
speaking of wheels whats the go with da9 wheels whats the specs for the rims?
as for oil i just use the normal stuff i think its 15w 40 or something
its nutting special hondas are really well made... mines done 270000 now and its still strong
ashwee: i think the eg one is a lighter grey colour to teh ls interior.. may look a bit weird..
well update on mine
my engine the conrod bearing went on number 2 or 3 not sure which one
picked up another engine from the wreckers in brisbane they deemed as a good engine and it had a blown head gasket so my car was towed to them to get fixed and it sounds like they have broken a head stud :S
and my car got to them last friday :S
