guys my oil light stays on for about a second after starting the car, oil level is good if not a little overfull. anyone had this before a quick search said oil sending unit is faulty..
is based on low oil pressure, mine stays on for bit too,
then turns off
long not turning on while driving say ur fine
yea mine does it too, not a problem unless it stays on. or as stevo said comes on while driving, lots of cars (especially those with a few hundred on the clock) will have light come on for a sec or 2 while engine builds oil pressure.
thanks, mines got low kms though :/
I got a brand new Holden cruiz and that does it also, so don't stress about it
my DA has been sold :) lol
so if u see.. LL 00 UD

just though I would post up a few pics of what I am spending my time on at the moment, I should start a build thread one day-
Traction bar install, interesting to note that the bar including all bolts etc saves 3kg in weight-
http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/4417/sam0192d.jpg
Aluminium Fluidyne radiator, fans are in a weird place to make room for the turbo-
http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/8702/sam0204h.jpg
Turbo on its way out and once I get a couple of minor issues sorted a GT3071R will be going in-
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/5130/sam0208k.jpg
my workspace-
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5662/sam0226i.jpg
unfortunately the 'minor issues' probably wont be sorted out until Tuesday as it takes a while to get parts, so she is going to have to sit there limp and on stands for a while. Aside from that, all that is left to do is modify the wastegate actuator bracket to give me more room and then everything can go back in ready for a tune.
i like the traction bar, i got one on the way as well :)
Mooshie man, that is one sweet workspace...
It was one of the reasons we bought this house (dont tell my missus that...) there is a double carport in front of the garage and the lounge room and study is on top plus a small storage room off to the left of that photo.
I have a small garden shed waiting for me to pick up so that i can get all the damn garden equipment out of there, its all stored on the other side of the red car at the moment.
seriously, after years of renting and although I always had double garages, it is so good to have a workbench, vice, and room in front of the cars to work in rather than either having to move one car out or work in the driveway.
do u have a hoist aswell kos the the grey da looks like its up some how doesnt seem like jackstands
I wish... I just use the jack in the photo, it goes up to 500mm which is abut the highest I could find anywhere for under $200. Use the jack points at the front where the tow hook is and do one side at a time with a smaller jack to just support it when you move the big one so there is not too much of an angle with only one stand underneath
hey mooshie, wats the light underneath the handbrake light mean? on the da6
i know its connected to that sensor on the exhaust
its been coming on sometimes? just wonderin wat it means
It's for the catalytic converter, it connects to the sensor just behind the cat with a simple circuit directly to the dash. The sensor loses continuity when there is a problem with the cat, usually excessive temperature causing the orange light on the dash to illuminate.
yeh i was thinkin that, cuz it turns off sometimes, cheers man
any that will fuk immediately, like i shud fix, cuz i got another engine goin in soon, so not in any rush to fix it lol
when you do your engine install, I assume you will be getting a new exhaust to compliment it, should solve your problem if you get a new cat as well.
ah yeh i am lol
and obd1 lol, that light goes bye bye
i was just curious
yeh, when i put my exhuast on im gonna need to,
it goes under the console actually ive accidently cut it before, and traced it there
Grrr.. ****in spewing right now.
Just broke an exhaust manifold stud off in the head while I was putting everything back together, that'll teach me for trying to do it by feel instead of using the torque wrench.
wouldnt you know it, Honda has none in stock in SA and cant get one till Friday, I have the thread fix man coming tomorrow morning to get the old one out but damn its going to be an expensive lesson.
I wonder if I could get the thread man to remove a stud from my B18A head I have laying around and use that?
frustrating thing is, everything is ready to go, finished all the custom work I had to do etc and now I have time off and cant put it all in the car
Edit: just checked part numbers and they are the same for both heads. I have a few generic studs laying around too but I would rather go genuine for something like this (superstitious!)
haha just use generic man, i had to extend intake ones cuz of the gasket i put on it
but yeh b18a ones shud be same
use emm :P
ive borken exhaust ones just removing them, no fun lol
Little update. Thread man came this morning and took the broken stud out with no issues then got the badly rounded nut off the manifold on the red car and took out one of those studs all up cost $88 which is not bad considering they come to you, great bloke too. Even put the stud into the head for me.
Aside from that, got the turbo all installed with modified wastegate actuator braket, got the radiator installed with all kinds of custom brackets to hold it and the fans in place. There is so little room in the front of a DA for turbo and a bigger radiator its not funny.
Just got to refill and bleed coolant, mount up the traction bar, do a stringline alignment, pressure up the oil and then she should be right to start. Tuning will be in a couple of weeks. I have taken heaps of pics along the way, might have to do a couple of writeups when I get a chance.
few pics-

zuututututuut
haha looks sweet man
good job
Do you need to get the traction bar engineered?
No idea.
Probably should given that I have removed and replaced a structural part of the car.
idk its prob a bit iffy, cuz dc2s dont run that bar,
is ur turbo engineering? cuz that bars least of ur worries haha
no but the DC2 is a slightly different setup.
yeh true ah well
doubt theyll notice there used to be a chunky ass thing there lol
ive got my bar coming soon too lol
That's exactly what I was implying. It's like aftermarket engine mounts; structural parts which specifically haven't been ADR tested.
An engine mount is far less conspicuous than a big shiny replacement crossmember.
I don't have a turbo so I don't need all that crossmember space. I just replaced the standard OEM rubber bushing with a spherical from Progress.
I have a contact to get the car all engineered up and have the cash, but at the moment the next job is replacing all bushings, balljoints etc and renew the suspension setup. Engineering is the next step after that. SA is a bit different than the other states in that we dont have inspections, just cops can pull you over. In 11 years of driving a modified car that only happened once and he let me off anyway, didnt believe me when I told him it was a '91!
ive been in isolation lol got quiet on the forums n stuff so i once in a while skim through things haha how have you been man?
haha fair call, yeh not bad
grey da9 got written off so now im crusing in a burgundy da6 haha
alot of work on the books too shud be good
how bout u?
shit man how the hell did that happen? haha are you gona build the vtecaaaaaa or are you slapping the b18 into it....
Yeah my car just got back onto the road after a bloody defect screwed me over hard so now its back to semi stock for the time being lol
haha im slappin the b18 bro, vtec gettin me round for now, loud, but i want the torque the b18 had haha
there was hard brakin infront of me, i stopped just in time 10cm of bumper of guy infront, chick behind me didnt, rammed me hard, sandwiched into next guy, then he got pushed into next one
but my engine and shit was fine, so im buildin that more atm, while i vtec it haha
Hey Stevo, your inbox was full so I posted on here hope its ok...
I just had a look and their website has all the different variants and their dimensions including the dimensions of the control unit near the top of the page. just make a mock up out of cardboard and see how it fits..
