you can DIY but might be a pain in the ass when it comes to getting those circlips out. Best to get someone who knows what they are doing to inspect.

so it is possible for them to inspect it? thats all im asking, or is it gonna be a big job which = lots of cash.? the reason i ask is because its second hand and i have a warrentee on it, so if it looks buggered im gonna take it back and get the brand newey they have!
well if it's the box only then I'd assume it's cheap cos all they are doing is opening and inspecting. no idea how much but I'd guess <$200 ?

just did mine mate.
its not too hard. cost me under $200 to replace all the bearings/seals apart from the big ones on the diff which were in good condition
took me 5 hours to get the gearbox out and the casing off. just use longnose pliers on the circlip, easy.
btw, not all d-series gearboxs are the same, ratios and final drive are different
