I have to admit, I've driven a 99 Integra GSi and was impressed. I've never been in a VTEC equiped car and before I jumped on this forum I didn't know that the VTEC 'kicked' in at certain revs. Is it just an engine management system? If so what does it adjust?..... Also I like the way the 'sound' of the Vtec is being described. What does it sound like? A turbo or a possesed 4 trying to be an 8? :?:
I can definitely hear when my VTEC crosses over.
Hey 96teg - where in Melbourne are you?
I'm in Mill Park..... and you?
West suburbs... you have a PM.
Yeah but I'm at work and its filtered. So what model do you have?
Mine's a 93/94.
Nice. How hard is it to get a VTiR ( Thats what yours is right?), going like a type R? Is it as easy as a ram pod, chip and exhaust? Are you able to override the rev limiter anyhow? 1 more thing... how much are clear tail lights worth?
It's not that hard, but it ain't cheap. To get it as quick as a Type-R you would need to do I/H/E and modify the ECU or install a powerchip. LSD would help as well.
With the rev limiter, you won't want to override that as it is there for a purpose. If you want the engine to rev high you need a high compression engine in the first place (Type-R) and you need to do a bit of head work (and possibly cams).
For the clear tail lights check out www.motorware.com.au.
in terms of straight line speed, all you need is an intake, header and exhaust...
thats all i have, i seem to be able to pull on stock or near stock r's.
xx
OK, So you are saying I'd be better off with a Type R. So how does the vtec sound? I only want to spend about $18000 give or take. What would you say is the best model to aim for, as in value for money? I heard the late 96 models are the newer looking types and I think I can pick one up for about 15K. Or should I spend more and get a later model? I'm talking VTiR's by the way.
