I think you can mod the auto and still have a lots of fun. The platform is not as good as the manual for modding but you can still improve the performance and handling significantly over the stock car.
Personally i don't see the point in "beating" other cars. You can improve the performance of your stock ride but there's always going to be cars out there that will beat you. No matter how you tune the Euro it still won't come close to cars like the Stis and Evos in terms of performance.
sodaz is right.It's all about making your car more fun to drive.There will always be quicker cars than yours.A good handling car is always fun to drive even if it's underpowered.It's not all straight line speed.If it was we'd all be driving V8s.:p
It seems like a lot of cars do 0-100kph a fair bit faster than what they used to do.
Just read the MOTOR Bang for Your Buck issue finally - and there were so many cars in there which could do it in around 7.4-7.8s range and very low 15's for the 400m dash.
The Commodore SV6 does it in 6.8s which was surprising, the SS V8 (the BFYB Winner, just to spoil it - but a deserving winner!) now does 5.2s and 0-400 in only 13.4s. STI and EVO speed - except the last two relied on an AWD launch which prob gave it 0.5s advantage. My gosh. Even the SV6 is nearly as quick as the old V8s now.
The Auto Euro just wouldn't keep up with most of these cars, even if modded. I highly suggest a manual. Although in a rolling start, the Auto Euro isn't that bad at all. There are certain kph points in which it has some advantages, I think..
You need to bear in mind that the Euro is a 2.4l and that the Commorores are from 3.8l upwards.So i think it does not a bad job in trying to keep up with them.Besides who'd want to own a Commodore!Average build quality,crap resale,so many recalls and so on.Quote:

The other thing is with modification you can make pretty much any car "performance oriented". Drive a CL9 with a decent suspension set up and I think you will change your opinion. The only limit to performance is your wallet and desire.
The CL9 is not that heavy either. Compare it to a Mazda 3MPS for example (also FWD) and my car is lighter. So all I need is a power boost! lol Peekays 150kw at the wheels would do just nicely (rubs my hands together with an evil laugh)...
Well the more I think about it the more happy I'm with the Euro's performance.
The thing is though, its missing 2 cylinders as someone said, compared to even an SV6, let alone a V8. However, a lot of the really fast cars out there now are actually 4 cylinders, although some have a smallish turbo on them!
I reckon, if we have just 1 more cylinder, the car will be just about perfect !

in response to sodaz post i totally agree with modding to make your car more enjoyable to drive, but i would be gutted if i spent dosh on my car to find out no performance improvments could be had (engine wise)...hence my probing further of the statements made in this thread..
awesome..so it would seem the moral of the thread it is better to switch to a manual (in general) where ratios can be played with further and the gains can be achieved without worrying about power being drained due to the auto setup if you are looking for a competitive street/track car...
if your looking mod to just have fun and making small improvements to the car to make it more driveable or a bit of a sleeper keep the auto and choose wisely. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
how could you make the v6 i-vtec auto into manaul, i think there many possibiltys, this could be fun :)
