bridgestone g3 ?
yoko es100 ?
toyo t1r ?
in a 195/50 R15
the sidewall stiffness ??
price ? ?
g3 has stiff sidewalls. more than the t1r. i think the g3 are higher grade than t1r. havent experienced es100 yet.
price from bridgestone is 160 per tyre on the g3. and YES, they are going to be discontinued very soon.
160 for 15s ?! thats very $$$! i got quoted only 130 for G3s..
hm.. so its a toss up between es100 and g3 then ...
fark ...
I've just been liasing with my brother who has G3's on his DC2, I have ES100's on my DC2. As far as outright grip I think the ES100 has the advantage, sidewall flex should be minimal in both but this also depends on what profile you're running, I have read that ES100's are at their best on low profile setups, and they have a steel plate in the side wall to minimise flex.
Previously he had Khumo Ecsta which he got coz they were cheap at the time but they don't compare with the G3's he has now.
I've had both ES100 and T1R. On the road, both are very similar in the dry but T1R is better in the wet. I haven't used the ES100's on trackdays but have used the T1R's on supersprints - they are good for about 3-4 hot laps.Quote:

* Most important thing is Sidewall stiffness !_!
* I dont care about road noise
* I dont care about ride quality (softness)
* Decent wet and dry performance
* Good take-off grip for my occasional lead foot (in dry weather only)
* under $200 per tyre.
Yoko C-Drives - Ive heard that have soft sidewalls, so they are out...
Bridgestone Potenza RE050 - ???
Yoko ADVAN AD07 - ??? Good yeah?
Goodyear F1 G3-D3 Eagles - ??? Sidewalls soft?
Experiences:
-Ive had Bridgestone Potenza GIII's on my Civic and they were ok.
-Ive had Dunlop LeMans on my Civic and the were trerrible, very soft sidewalls, car wobbled when changing lanes!
-Ive had Dunlop Formula's on my Civic and they were GREAT! But Dunlop dont make them anymore :(
Yup, C.Drives are out. They are comfort orientated. You want Advans or A.Drive R1. What about Dunlop SP Sport 3000A? They are used on the XR6 Turbos I think.Quote:

@yfin, do the sidewalls have decent stiffness?
Are they still a current model?
BobJane TMart dont sell them according to their site:
http://www.bobjane.com.au/Tyres_range/Dunlop.asp
They only have SP LT5, GrandTrek, SP 300A, and Monza
ps. Are there any Tyre places open on Sunday in Syd?
(bobjane, beaurepairs, and kmart are closed Sun)
Ive tried both the T1Rs and GIIIs, IMO i do agree about the T1R having abit of a softer sidewall but does grip more then the GIIIs.
Has any experienced BFGoodridge?
i meant good years..sorryQuote:

Ask yfin on his sidewall experiences but unless you track or drive so hard on the street that it is illegal, I don't think you can notice much difference except through the roundabouts at high speed.Quote:

The Dunlop LeMans tyres on my civic were awful and were quite dangerous due to the mega-soft sidewalls, so there are some tyres out there that are best avoided. (these tyres caused the car to roll/steer an extra second after recentering the steering after a lane change).
The stock 2050m's are nothing special IMO - they dont perform well in the wet and are way too easy to wheel spin when taking off.
but yeah i'll get a quote for the 3000A's
any other brands offers softer sidewalls like C-drives (as many has mentioned its rather on the soift side)?
im mainly looking for comfort... and C-drives dun come in 40/r17
lol, the C in C.drive stands for comfort. So of course it won't come in 40 R17. Try A.drive. Not sure how comfortable it is though. If you like soft sidewalls, go Michelin. But not the OEM ones as those have loud road noise. Go for the higher grade ones.
Not all Goodyear GS-D3's 17 and up are made in Germany, I've seen 17s that are thai made!!

Heard about this, apparently a few brands do this. Make sure you get a size that were manufactured germany. Mine were absolutely faultless for a road tire!!!!!

As tempting as AD07 was to me, IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK PPL.
If enough people contact Yokohama Australia through mail that they want AD07, they could bring it in, get it DOT approved for sale here.Quote:

I had the GIII's on my Civic with that size and they were quite good tyres.
Although the Dunlop Formula's were the best tyres I ever had on the Civic.
I got the C-Drives on my Euro just today and they seem fine so far - gotta wear them in for a few days first before passing judgment. I was expecting them to be too soft (Like Dunlop LeMans) but they are actually not bad at all :)
we've got the 3000A's on a ba fairmont ghia and they grip well in wet and dry. worlds away from the dunlop le mans which just didn't really grip.Quote:

Nexen tyres are just cheap crap... Similiar to Nangkang.
It is good that they wear out quickly so you can fit some decent tyres later on down the track
Of course. C.Drives are the replacement for A539, which was one of Yoko's best affordable street performance tyre.Quote:

I just bought 205/40/17 Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2 for my EK civic and so far i've found them to be pretty awesome. i havnt managed to get them unstuck yet(safely of course) and they dont even make a peep when under stress. They are actually reasonably quiet when cruising as well which is bonus. Im not overly experienced with diff types of tyres but im so happy with these tyres..feel so safe in wet and confident in dry now.
Although only prob is they quite expensive. Anyone else experienced these tyres or found any negatives with them?

Thanks mate that does help, mine were 18s and they were awesome. But under 17s being made in thailand would explain the 125dollar fitted and balanced price per f1 gsd3 tyre.
Im looking at getting a set of michelin pilot preceda pp2, 175 per tyre fitted.
Both prices are for 195/50/15s
awesome tires, mate has them on his dc2r...didnt creep at all at high turns...very impressed.Quote:

I got the impression from reading various threads that the C-Drive had really soft walls - considerably softer than the A539's, but they are quite good on the euro and provide a comfortable ride, as well as *excellent* traction (VSA has not come on once yet :p). Although around corners they dont provide much road feedback, so they are definetely a bit softer than the stock Dunlops.Quote:

Anyways, I'm on AD07 and they are great, but mine doesn't have the DOT approval on it, maybe they've recently got it or something.

btw everyone...would like to pass on the dunlop direzza st tyres I have on the front of my teg - have now gone off...well they aren't coping very well with my exedy HD clutch lol...compared to normal daikin clutch....
Wheelspin 1st/2nd if I rev off the line....and if the road is wet, just wheel spinning...fine once your moving though...
I think I'll have to see if they can get sport maxx in my size when I have to change next year lol.
Direzza is not really top notch stuff. The GIII would be much better than Direzza.
well they were the replacement for my dunlop fm901s....prefer the fm901s...still have them on the back.... do have g111 on track rims - okQuote:

from my experience
g3 and dz101 i think are on the same-ish level
however with the g3, the grip levels improve as the tyre wears
where as the dz's grip will decrease after its worn out
also, spunky monkey
if you have a set of rims for track why use g3's?
g3's are really bad for track use
exp coz they dont take heat very well
how about falken azenis rt615 , i read some good review about it. big improvement over the old skool rt215.
yes I thought they were on the same level too. but yes, my direzzas seem to have gone a bit off - well they can't cope with a bit extra grip from clutch.Quote:

i have Regal tyres lol. they are from ian diffen and they are meant to be made by dunlop in south africa specially for ian diffen. i cant remember the specific model name of them but they r 205/45/16 and they seem to have good grip in the wet and dry. i havent even really heard them squeal or have them lose grip in the wet b4... then again my car is pretty weak. but i used to have 205/40/17 nexen tyres and one bridgestone haha. the nexens seem to lose grip in the wet quite a bit.
anyone know if the xenon z1 tyres from bob jane are any good?

just a reminder for BS S03 it has good grip but tend to produce even worse road noise when it's worn out.....
like 70% thread left it start giving you that annoying road noise.....
Are Nexen tyres any good?

currently running RT215s on street and they are good... good on dry...alright on wet... the downside is that i dont get any feedback from the tyres at all!!! which is a big downside (personally)...
anyone help me on the following tyres please
1. Firestone Firehawk GTA
2. Goodyear Eagles LS
3. Kumho V70A R Spec (apparently used for race cars???)
thx
im looking for some 225/40/18
was looking into the yokohama, bridgestone, toyo and dunlop ranges
i want some tyres with good grip and good performance in the wet, what would you people recommend i just want to spend about $250 a tyre
yes i wud like to know as wellQuote:

I got some new tyres on the w/end. I bought Fulda Excelero's (sp) for $200 each fitted and balanced. First impression was the steering was so much lighter but this is likely to be because of a new tyre with actual tread. They are also really really quiet, esp on the highway. The OEM Dunlops were quite noisy on concrete highways but these are no noiser from tar to concrete. Ride quaility is possibly better but could also be the fact they are new.
No performance and grip:
The jury is still out on this. Bob Jane put this slippery silicon shit on the tyres and makes it really slippery sometimes. I think most of it has worn off as the grip is improving. From a standing start VSA kicks in more often and I get more wheel spin than stock OEM Dunlops at the moment. I haven't taken the car too hard on cornering yet as don't wanna slip out if I find some more silicone on a side wall.
It's raining today and wet performance is about the same as OEM at this stage.
I'll give another update once I've washed the car properly and wiped the silicone stuff off.
As far as the Bob Jane Xenon z1 tyres, they are rebadged Kumo's tyres so draw your own conclusion from that.
Just a follow up after a few more days of driving. I'm beginning to hate these tyres. Wheel spin and squeal is horrible (and that's in an auto). Cornering is very loud & no where near as much grip. They must have some serious sidewall flex as you can hear the tyre as if it's flat, but it isn't. I'm gonna check my tyre pressures at the server tomorrow just in case but they don't look low.
On a positive note, if you're after a very quiet tyre and don't put your car to the limit (esp cornering) then they are fine. I just wish Goodyear still imported the tyre I wanted in my ar's size (F1 GS-D3 or something like that).
hey guys
im up for new tyres soon and just wondering what sort of tyres i should get
i wanna spend around the $150 mark for each tyre and i want it to grip in both dry and wet conditions, not wear out too quickly(cant afford to be changing every 10-20 000kms), the car will be used most likely for everyday driving, and the occational mountain run, or track day
i dont really know much about tyres, but im guessing that u dont want tyre flex?
i got em1 rims that have 195/55/15 dunlop tyres on them, what do uz recomend for what i wanna do
yokohama c-drives!!!!!!!!
can get em for 600 with wheel alignment too
All those with tyres on their cars (which means everybody), Go to http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?p=806178 and post up your brand, model, size, and on the sidewall, look for the 3T's.
Continental are the best !
but im meant 2 say that since my Grandpa owns "Tyres4u" the importer and distributer for Continental's, GT radials and ect for Australia, New zealend (and more but cant remember all of the countries) !
Was looking at the Ralliart Colt Turbo yesterday and noticed that the factory tyres are AD07 so i guess they are going to be full import tyres soon

255/45? That's not a typo of 225 right? If it is 255/40, you'll need at least 17x8.5 rims. The Lux has 17x7.0 rims and won't accomodate 255/40 because of the aspect ratio (needs between 8.5 to 10" width rims). 255/50 Can be used on the 17x7 rims though, but it would look pretty thick.Quote:

what brand makes 205/40/16's
Cool, forget the 255's then, any thoughts on the bridgestones?
Yokohama V550 205 x 55 x 16 on a Honda Euro.
These tyres got 20000k on 80 % highway driving on the REAR so, NOT a good tyre at all. Soft sidewalls, but good grip in wet & dry.

Can anyone give me suggestions on what tyre to get in the size of: 205/40/17
My direzzas are nearly out of tread, hence why I can't get any grip lol. Price range $250 ish, less than $300.
Dunlop don't seem to carry any current tyre models in my size anymore.
Tyres that I've found come in the size:
Yokohama: AVS ES100, A drive AR01
Toyo: Proxes T1R (but I'll probably pass on the toyos)
G3 bridgestones - but they are always much more expensive compared to the others in the range
Any other suggestions?
Even dunlop don't know what they are talking about because when I emailed them months ago asking what tyres they are bringing out in my size, they said they said the dunlop sp sport max - they had no reply when I said their site only lists two sizes available.
My C Drives have worn in now and they're surperb both in the dry and the wet, cruisin' or on the go, straight or cornering they really are the bomb hahaha!
Hey guys
Im looking at getting 225/40ZR18's for my Euro and have some questions.
Firstly, anyone recomed anything they they have liked in this size? Im thinking G3's or F1's
I do alot of driving (55,000kms in 2 years) so im after something that will wear good, my current Faulkens Fk451's lasted 13,000kms and was hoping to get something better.
Im not a street racer so performance isnt my main criteria but i do like to throw the car around a corner sometimes and am big on wet weather performace because my faulkens really suck at that. Also, i dont know if its because of the tyres or not but my traction control is forever kicking in around a corner.
Also, im looking at only replacing the fronts because my 2 rear tyres still have plenty of grip. Problem is, ive got abit of camber where obviously the inside has worn more than the outside, if i put these rears on the front would that be dangerous? Or would it cancel itself out and start wearing evenly again?>
Thanks for your help, im a absoult n00b here.
they r not bad and cheap
or for the same price as g3 u can get the goodyear eagle gs-d3 which i got last week in 225-40-18, they r incredible in the wet and pretty awesome in the dry and they r meant to last me around 40000 and just to give u an idea i had gt radials before which lasted only 55000 and they were hard compound, but i guess ill see how it goes.
but i highly recomend either the gs-d3 or the yokohama advan sport v103 (i think they r)
Im running TOYO T1R front and rear. 215/45/16. Costed me $750 for all 4 fitted, balanced and 4 wheel alignment. Excellent grip on dry and good grip in the wet. The tyre has a very soft compound so dont expect the tyre to last very long. Bang for buck tyre !
