So what if it has DSG? To me, 6MT > DSG. Why? Because I can use aftermarket clutches and a lightweight flywheel with the 6MT.

I don't think we're comparing "apples with apples" here.
1. This CTR is an NA vehicle, whereas the Golf GTI is a turbo vehicle
2. Price range, yes both might be in the same price range (if you are basing it on Golf Gti base model) but if you wanted extras for the Golf, you would have to pay more and the prices you may pay for some of these extras for the Golf I find ridiculous!...
The CTR (from what I've read) comes with most features and if price is around 38-43K, that's all you have to pay!
3. The CTR is a 2dr hatch/coupe, Golf Gti is a 4/5dr hatch
Hence, two different cars...
Dont forget one is a Honda and one is a VW, nuff said!
CTR and Golf GTI are not a direct comparison? They are both front wheel drive sports hatch, priced very closely, targeting the same group of buyers. CTR is not a coupe, and GTI now comes in 2 door. If you think they shouldn't be compared because of their engines, then I guess comparing Holden SS to Ford XR6 turbo would be comparing oranges to apples too.
ABBAhahhaa good to see some humour on this site.
For those not in the know.......the MKV GTI does come in 2-door platform as of nov/06.
A one off special order of grey. As you can see ACT plates mounted.

and if you think the CTR should not be compared to the GTI please let me know what smacky E's your popping cause i'd like some as well for the next rave.
the CTR was spedifically bought in by honda australia to compete in that segment which includes the GTI, MPS, FOCUS, and every other hatch on the market...
Ok, ill say it again! One is a Honda and one is a VW! its like comparing a 350Z to a S2000, CBR to a GSXR, Civic to a Pulsar!
You cant compare a Honda to anything, I thought all you guys would know that! ;)
(said like a typical one eyed Honda fan)
CTR FTW!
Yes but the CTR and Gti are direct competitors of each other. Meaning comparing cost, performance, and features if they were at the same cost the Golf would be favoured. Only loyal honda customers would pay a price like that and the others would shift to the golf due to value for money and a tad better performance and convenience.
If UNLS1 is speaking the truth about limited stock then i better go check out a local dealer. Anyone know a good honda dealer in the sydney area? I live around the Ashfield area so any where around there would be great....
you have to put down a deposit if you want the type R...
Apparently test driving isn't enough overall as you can't exploit its potential due to a dealer on your back, the CTR is a better car over time as you begin to mold into according to the UK CTR forums. But yes i agreed everyone has different tastes and you cant judge them until you've test driven them both. But so far the reviews from consumers have been positive for the ctr.
No not correct. You run the risk of it not being higher than expected, however, no dealer can sell a car for more than RRP - if they tried to do this they'd end up with a massive law suit. So basically you'll get the car for what any other dealer is selling for. They wont be discounting the car, if you want one secure it now. If you decided not to go ahead its not real hard to pull out anyway, when i worked selling cars it happened all the time. People just make up a bs story and stick to it and the manager will almost always let them get away with it so they dont have to deal with the rubbish..
The whole thing of "put down a deposit now or you may not be able to get one" absolutely sucks and makes me want to just go MPS3. I'm not putting down a cent until final features list is confirmed. And then I want to be able to actually test drive one in a reasonable environment before making a decision.
Mazda organised it so that I could try their 3 on Sandown...
I wonder if Honda is going to pick up the glove?
NO! u can leave a deposit so u make sure u get one of the first ones and u dont end up waiting for one!
IF u leave a deposit just sign up the contract subject to the pricing when it comes to hand from honda! If ur not happy with the RRP u can get ur deposit back.
ive sold cars subject to test drives too. similar thing too.
The XR5 focus is selling well, so well they dont even have a demonstrator so people come in to work put a dep down to get one then if they dont like it when it arrives they dont have to take it, coz if they done there are another few hundred people who want one!
oh and yes as another smart member has said, if u 110% want one put ur deposit down now coz as i said i know how many we are getting and there will be no discount at all!
If u want to pull out and get ur deposit back i doubt there will be a problem as there will be a list of about 50 other people wanting one!
I work at Trivett Peugeot... (app. Mech)
and the new 207 is farkn ugly!!!!!!!
The sport model will be known as the 207 RC and will share the same engine as the mini cooper S (turbo charged)
all i can say is honda FTW!!! (accept they need the jdm ctr not the pommy one !!)
Well as long as you can pull out without any penalties then thats sweet.
Not in a really big rush to get it as the longer i wait the more longer i can save.
50k... rather invest in a house.
Who told you 50k? I think even if thats an on the road price honda are going to struggle to sell these.. Much better cars around for 50k. Everyone to their own i guess but when you make a car to compete with 40k hatches you'd want it to be awesome if you are going to charge 25percent more.. I doubt very much it would be that expensive..
i dont think it will hit that mark...it needs to be priced to the market and for the car to hit that mark would be stupid from hondas point of view...it should be around the 40K mark plus onroads...and again there limited...so its not like they will have alot of them available
No way it would be 50k. I'm better off buying an audi with that money.
Its gotta be around 38-43k.
lol i hate dealers that comment on price, there is no official pricing yet, no body knows, dealers dont know so dont listen to anyone untill its released from honda australia!
just be patient! :)
Yep, #355, amen to that. From my point of view it needs to be competitive with the MPS3.
The way I see it, the awesomeness of that engine is matched by the "complete package" thing of the CTR. However if it starts costing 5-10k more then forget about it. Mazdas have awesome build quality as well and they arranged the performance driving day which I'm not about to forget.
Mazda on average is the top #1 brand for quality, followed closely by Honda. The gap to Toyota in 3rd is huge. Ford etc are waaay down on the list.
it will not reached 50k for sure. it will be around 38-43 but the dealer hint that the worst to come is that it will be from around 45/46k marks and you better order soon, as i said before only 3 for each delaer in june and 2 each months after that there must be a long wait if you want to test drive the car first in june
LOL knowing Honda Australia they will stuff it all up and it will end up being ++$45k mark
Don't forget, they did price the Integra TypeR and TypeS a few $k more than the S15 and WRX...
#357- Ok, this actually suits me fine, I'm only going to do the swap over from my GSXR-600 bike in 2008. And given that I have test driven the 3MPS on Sandown racetrack, no way in hot places I'm ordering a car unseen.
that list doesn't show vehicle "quality"
it talks about reliability...
mazda still use shit plastics.
Quote:
The message is clear, new car buyers - if you want proper reliability, go for a Mazda or a Honda and forget the rest.
I personally think the car will be a $39,990 + ORC. Dealer's have already recieved allocations and the price will be released shortly. I have already placed my order for a black one and a set of CE28N's in 19" are already on their way. Now i am just looking for a set if coilover's in which i will investigate when i am in Japan. Let's hope the UK Suspension set up is no different to the Jap cars..
Their top ranked individual vehicle is the Honda Accord.
EDIT: Also my in laws bought the very base model 2007 Mazda 3 (neo, with power upgrade only) hatch. I thought it felt great to drive, even with just a 4AT. Engine very responsive, pulled well with 4 adults in the car. Noise levels are minimal, in fact less rattle (NONE!) than in my Accord Euro.
My Euro has been plagued with it from day 1, with multiple day services required to get the worst of them out. Look at the Accord forum, I'm hardly the only one. Might have been that mine is a "lemon" in terms of rattle, and theirs is a "gem", but... also going to get my left headlight replaced on next week's 20k service due to condensation issue.
I'd rather have something simple or not as pretty that just works 100% than something fancy that gives me tonnes of trouble.
Lets face it, yeah some of the mazda plastics arent the best but some honda's feel plasticky too. My mazda 6 felt great inside. Every manufacturer is going to have imperfections. The build process includes tolerances and while cars have very acute tolerances these days there will still always be 'duds'.. Most cars around these days are pretty good, even hyundai have some nice cars and are very reliable.. Comes down to choosing what you like the drive of and what suits the requirements and budget confinements..
mazda is no way to compare with any Honda
drove a Mazda sp23 and it is like a pos.. crappy interior, quality and gearbox.
btw... this CTR looks UGLY.... where is the Jap spec CTR =(
Again personal opinion. Im sure many people driving sp23's have driven the civic and say the same thing of honda. Whatever floats your boat as they say. Too many people will buy a Civic and justify it to themselves by bagging mazda3, focus etc and im sure there are buyers who dont like many aspects of the civic also. I see no issue with quality from mazda, they are no merc/bmw/vw but then i dont believe honda are either. The interior isnt too bad in my opinion, comfy and roomy, i never had a single quality issue with my mazda 6 and the gearbox might not be as light and nice to slick between gears as many honda's but its still easy to use, non baulky and doesnt grind or jump out of gear.. not too bad. Plus the 2.3litre motor is great, very torquey and much better suited (again in MY opinion) to a relatively large family car (compared to civics of old) especially if they are automatic...
Again these are just my expressed views and many may disagree but i think to say mazda is crap isn't a very educated view..
I think Mazda is going downhill in quality. some of their early-mid 90s cars were pretty good cars for the time, like I find an old 626 has a better interior than an old Accord. But the newer Mazdas are just awful. I mean the interiors are some of the cheapest and worst looking Ive ever seen.
No, it's not because of the ghetto parts. My ghetto parts are better than those that you can buy.
The rattles come from the interior. It's the stuff that are on the TSX's TSBs. I have the weak front roof liner clips, front door panel rattle, seat belt B pillar adjuster rattle, rear brake light rattle. I had the parcel shelf creak and glove box rattle, but those two were fixed by my dealer.
without considering money...
Would you guys buy this new CTR or the EP3...
I'm trying to decide between the 2 atm (without thinking about dollars) and somehow i like the look of the Ep3 more...i cant stand the back of hte new CTR tho the fornt and interior is hawt
What ever floats your boat. Everyone has different tastes. My personal preference is the new CTR as i've grown to like the looks, up to date with safety, can take the car out on track days. If you want to go hardcore in the future you can start stripping it out yourself i guess.
Or, if you dont like the new CTR looks, you can make the VTI-Sports into CTR? :p
will there be a 4 door version of the civic type R ?
I highly doubt it. The sedan you are thinking about is only available in Japan i think.
I agree. The Japanese versions of Type R have always been more powerful than other countries' production versions. The sedan type R I believe has 165 kw .In other forums I 've been told that it laps the Tsukuba track in Japan faster than the JDM ITR,S2000 and the NSX(don't know if it's true about the NSX though.)
Yep.the JDM Civic Type R is a different kind of animal to the SI and the Euro Type R.
so in otherwords the 2 door is the one to be sold in Australia ?
If the EP3 you get is JDM, then go for that. Otherwise, the UK CTR if you want a new car.
^^. there is one for sale on carpoint for 25k! go get it. and its white!!
what do you think of a new black ctr with white wheels? just the stock one, i planning to paint it white and paint my calliper red
I was told 45k roughly after dealer delivery.
I'm hoping this model will be built in Thailand one day, shave off 10k off the price.
they probably will build them some where closer, honestly the civic type R will not be a top seller among the public because it is a 2 door. it will more then likely be more expensive then a Type S. I dont think people will be keen on paying that money for a hatch.
JDM ep3.. just under 30,000 bucks for a good 2004+ one... for that money I'd probably be able to get one with some decent big brand name fruit
but its not a new car :o .... and for that sorta money a Rx8 is buyable too.. (which imo is in a differnet sorta class, not maybe for perfomrance but for package)
Realistically speaking... My point of view...
According to memory... When the DC5 integra came out standard it was 42K and the Type R was 46K...
So if the same pattern was to happen... The standard Civic sports now is 33.5K so I'm guessing that the Type R would be around 38K or so...
The fact that it's a Civic as well compared to an Integra I don't think it'll reach the 46K mark *fingers crossed* either way I'm gonna get it hahaha so doesn't really matter...
Also I did a quick online conversion of the UK price to AUD and it's around the 35K more so yeah... I'm expecting 42K or so... Hopefully that's with on road...
not sure if this has been covered on this forum, but the MPS3's have had some issues with the engine literally falling out of the car. so if you call this quality then i dont want quality. Also this "topgear" list doesnt mean jack to be honest, because I read a survey from what people thought about cars in the US and they said HYUNDAIS were the most reliable. It's obviously based on people's opinions and if u asked another group of people their opinions would differ
