Just found this thread and been having a read through. That stinks what is happening to you. Unfortunately this sort of thing is as old as the motor industry itself(and one of the reasons I became a DIY'er 50+ years ago). Hope you get a satisfactory outcome. If not, threaten to make a complaint with fair trading, and do so if they stuff you about. And yes, I wouldn't trust them to put it right.
What I originally was going to say when while I was reading through is it's funny how old things become new. What you are doing is an old trick first invented in the U.S. by the early hotrodders, way,way before wide rims and tyres were even heard of (maybe dreamed of) to give their cars (usually the fat fendered late 1930's-40's models) a wider stance. The method used was to remove the centre and reverse it in the rim (because on all +0 offset steel rims the well in the rim where the centre attaches to is offcentre, biased toward the outside edge). Widening of the rim itself didn't really happen until Radial or wide oval crossply tyres became available.
I used to make my own back in the 70's (mags were way to expensive) by getting them cut on a lathe and welding in a strip. I tried painting the first ones I made, black, and quickly repainted them white 'cause they didn't even look any different to stock steelies, and my view on wide rims (steel or alloy) is, if you're gonna have fancy wheels, why in god's name would you want to hide them!
Here is an example of this reversed (and widened) rim method used on a Honda

thanks to jdm yard !
tyre choice, going a 195/50 and most likely go for re002 tyres
got quoted 140 each tyre fitted and balanced :)
What was their price delivered? Personally I prefer 205/50's on that width rim, not quite so stretched.
195/50 is barely a stretch lol
195 is all the stretch i need :)
One of the guys on one of my other forums' got the 195's on his 8" rims so he can get them under the guards on his Gen2 CRX but I just like the bit of extra rim protection with the wider tyre. But then that can vary quite a bit depending on the tyre manufacturer. I've seen some quite large differences in actual tread/casing width between makes in the same size/profile.
just got my tyres fitted today :D !!
