No dyno yet. I will get the car tuned soon. Then doing a review on the E-Manage Ultimate with Boomslang harness for the DBW S2000s.
Wow dude... JDM'd out to the max...
Thats alot of money you splashed. Can't wait to see the results.
^^ 220 from Vsport?? thats cheap. whats the temp rating of the Ferodo's?
Mod: Endless CC-R Front brake pads
Price: $290 NEW (edw-r)
impressions/comments:The best track pads I have used to date (prev. pads: OEM, Race Brakes RB74, Ferodo DS2500). Temp. rating 150-800 degrees. These pads still stop you on the street but they are extremely noisey, they squeal continuously under light/normal braking loads and are not very friendly towards rotors. On the track I probably won't change to anything else, 12 min sessions on continuous hard braking (in conjunction with Castrol Racing brake fluid) showed no signs of fade at all, they out-lasted my tyres (Dunlop D01Js)...the pads have excellent feel and initial bite, extremely confidence inspiring for those wanting to push their cars to the limit. (rear pads were Ferodo DS2500)...These pads can lock up the front wheels if your not careful applying the brakes (front tyre size used was 225/50/16)
Cons: They chewed through a set of completely smooth set OEM rotors (had 20,000 kms on them from light use with OEM pads), looking at needing them machined asap.
rating out of 5: 5/5 for track, 1/5 for street as they recommend use with r-spec tyres, my guess is with street tyres you'll lock them up in an emergency braking situation.
Mod: Advan a048 (M compound, 205/55/16 F, 225/50/16 R)
Price: ~$380 each NEW
impressions/comments:I had high hopes for these tyres as so many JDM cars are running them, unfortunately, I should have listened to my mechanic before I purchased these. They never felt as good as the D01Js on the track, very disappointing...They didn't feel like they had as much grip and took a long time to warm up properly. I wouldn't purchase these again, they never warmed up sufficiently though mountain runs either. The one place where they were much better than the Bridgestone RE55s was in the wet, on track they gripped very nicely and were confidence inspiring. Another benefit was the extremely smooth transition at the 'break-away' point.
Not so noisy at speed but stiff sidewalls equate to a harsh ride as well on the street.
rating out of 5: 3/5
Mod: Dunlop D01J (S compound, 225/50/16 on OEM 16" rims)
Price: $400 used with 70-80% tread, early 07 build tyres. (Stuckey tyres in Brunswick stocks a lot of these)
impressions/comments:
A bargain. Running the wider tyre at the front gives a lot more braking power, however turn-in suffers and becomes more vague, running such wide tyres on 6.5" wide rims also induces a lot of additional front end body roll. The non-staggered setup suffers from huge oversteer problems, so careful throttle inputs and a lot of counter-steering is needed to push the car on such a setup.
These tyres warm up after about 3/4 of a lap at winton, I used these in a sprint session a while back (standing start laps) and it was very impressive. the tyres are very good in the wet on the street and don't ever make you feel nervous when it rains. With the soft compound, the do start to feel greasy after about 7 or so hot laps at Winton (probably too much for the car to handle anyways).
These tyres warm up properly on mountain runs too, they wear out very quickly though...uncomfortable on the street as all r-spec tyres would be and quite noisy at speed.
rating out of 5: 4.5/5 as I can only presume that brand new ones would be even better.
Mod: RDA slotted front rotors
Price: $Can't remember...
impressions/comments:
Hopeless. These rotors are not fit for any kind of spirited driving at all, track...forget about it. I didn't even want these but this was all I could find before a track day I was attending last year. They lasted 8,000kms (2 track days and a few mountain runs, I don't drive aggressively on the street at all) rotor thickness is still fine, however with combined use of Ferodo DS2500 pads and Bendix ultimate (OEM Replacement) pads they developed hairline cracks on the face...they have been replaced with the OEM rotors again.
rating out of 5: 1/5
I'm still looking for a rotor that can withstand the CC-R pads, anyone have any ideas?
$300 is for front and rear Ferodos. Is $220 from Vsport front and rear too?
Oh and also: Rolled = Jonathan?
I don't like the carbonetics because initial bite when cold is not good. It needs to be quite warm to work well. And on the street it can be quite dangerous. A few times I had to stamp on the brakes really hard because the car just wasn't stopping.
The DS2500 is a good choice for me since I really cbf changing pads all the time for the street and track. And I hate brake squeal.
Jonno, what about the project MU SCR pro rotors or even endless ones 9if they make them for our cars)
oh crap, nah $220 was for the fronts only! Where did you get it for $300 for the whole set? haha that's crazy!
Yes Rolled = Jonathan LOL
What's the temp rating of the carbonetics? Even with the endless CCR being 150-800 they still stop fine when it's cold in the mornings...
haha you know changing pads is just taking the wheel off and then 1 bolt on the caliper, slip the pads out, new ones in, bolt back on and wheel back on? haha doesn't take long...my friend and I changed the front rotors/pads in 30 mins! mmm I don't mind brake squeal, I think it makes the car sound more hardcore! LOL but then no one else knows that
