Hehe well I have a spare set :)
Man...
It took me the last 3 hours and 20 mins to get the power cable from the battery to the boot. I spent like an hour or more searching for a hole through the firewall but ended up going through the fender

OH MY ROFL thats exactly what I did!!!
Funnily I nearly ran it through the driver side fender but thought "maybe the passenger side fender will have the same grommet for some unknown reason"...
I had to remove the ECU just to get to it but yeah...woot
been having a break now its time to get back and see it through
that power cable was a bitch to do, was even more of a bitch when there was no diy available back then and i had to figure it out myself LOL
well good on you all for doing it, i woulda never figured it out :(
Any of you guys with a sound system and normal battery having issues with power? i.e. lights dimming? I saw them talk about it on 8thcivic
yea, hence i upgraded to an optima yellow top
yikes. what kind of sound system though? will I be ok just running a couple of subs? amp rated at 600watts max
you will get light dimming normaly if you dont have caps for your subwoofer, depends on how many watt is your sound system. but eventhough i have cap, still i upgraded to optima yellow top and put hks grounding kit
Yeah I was just about to ask if I should install a capacitor.
Can someone clarify,
should I ground my cap and amp separately?
i.e
power cable -> cap
ground cable -> cap
cap+ -> amp+
cap- -> another ground point
and my amp has two 25amp external fuses, so will the one 50amp power fuse (close to battery) be enough for this whole setup?
I couldn't find any real place to mount the ground cable in the boot...so I stuck it on the taillight screw. Would this be ok?
Another question...
I'm planning to follow this guide:
Do I need to strip the wires from behind the stereo, or can I just go straight to the speakers? I'm planning to connect the converter to the rear speakers...which would be much easier than taking apart the dashQuote:
Installing a line out converter/rca converter
#
Step 1
Locate the wires running from the head-unit or factory amplifier to the speakers. In some cases you will find these wires behind the head unit, but it may be easier to go directly to the speakers.
#
Step 2
Once the speaker wires are found, use the wire strippers to remove 1 inch of insulation from each one. Attach the left channel of the L.O.C. to the left speaker, and the right channel to the right speaker.
#
Step 3
Solder the L.O.C. wires to the speaker wires and seal the connection with heat shrink or electrical tape. Secure the L.O.C. to the vehicle. Plug in some RCA cables to the L.O.C. and run them to the amplifier.
#
Step 4
Adjust the amplifiers' gain levels to a medium setting. Turn on the stereo and adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level. Use a small screwdriver to adjust the gains on the L.O.C. up until distortion is heard, then turn the gain down until it goes away.
#
Step 5
Turn the volume up on the head unit and make sure that there is no distortion present in the amplifier. If distortion is heard, adjust the gain on the amplifier and L.O.C. accordingly.
theres a grounding point in the boot if u lift up ur carpet
dont use the bolt from ur tailight, ur tailight will start dimming
on another note,
please dont use capacitors,
it will only do damage to ur amplifiers
is like ur amp is not getting a constant feed but a short burst of power
ive seen so many amp blow up because of the owner thinks by using a cap it will sort out problems
no it wont it may seem like it
but all its doing is soilving problem on the face by covering it up and not looking inside what is the main problem
lights dimming is normally poor grounding
im running 4 channel and mono at 300 WRMS kicker without any problems of the lights dimming same as my jazz
