I noticed you mentioned 350 for the swaybar kit. Don't forget that you need an ASR subframe brace -that's another 270. You absolutely need it, otherwise ur subframe will get ****ed.
Thanks Mike! I'll read though that article after work tonight.
Yeah I was doing some reading before about it, ASR is an absolute must!
And what's next on the list? Coils? Buddyclub N+ next up for me!
Full exhaust is next, I'll think about springs/dampers later. ATM she's handling well with the sway bars, it's time for more power.
More power? But you haven't finished with handling yet! Have you stripped out unnecessary weight??!!
It's definitely the way to go in my opinion, Brett's car is a classic example. Very nice attention to detail in the handling department, it is the standout attraction that makes me love his car so much. More than the performance, more than the looks (although they both are important and Brett's car has ++ in both those areas as well). And more than the automatic gearbox as well. :D
Once handling is 100% improved, then you also have the added benefit of knowing that you can throw whatever performance it will take at it. As opposed to big grunt V8 engines with supercharger, it is too much power and the car can't handle corners all that well anyway. Takes the fun out of it in my opinion. Fast in corners > fast in straight line.
So true Troy!
And sounds good Mike. Full exhaust will give you good top end Vtec power
I disagree Troy, the car handles pretty well. It's a VTi-R not a CXi. It has CTR front and rear sway bars and firmer springs rates than EK1. While most dudes slam their car immediately, I don't subscribe to that.
And a supercharged v8 with a good suspension setup can be nice in the twisties believe me. You think V8 supercars don't handle well? I get your point though, it's just a bad analogy.
The B16a needs a bit more go, and a full exhaust will cost me less than half that of decent springs and dampers (not to mention bushes). It could really use the extra 10-15 or so HP.
Also I'm up in the air about whether or not I'll get a better car next year. Springs and dampers are harder to install/uninstall, so they are more difficult to part out of the car upon sale time compared to an exhaust.
I was not meaning the V8 supercars, I was meaning the average Aussie with some Falco-dore and supercharged the thing without going all out on suspension first!
But don't mind me, I was just sharing some love for the BAT!
No worries Troy ;)
I do wanna get a bang for buck power mod 1st.
Springs and dampers are definitely a good idea for the future.
Actually Ive been thinking Koni yellows and some decent springs, I've just realised they can be had for about less than 1200 all up.
I'm sure if you keep an eye out you can find yourself a decent set of coilovers second hand, for about the same price.
I wouldn't buy coilovers for that price. Problem is I value ride comfort. Good dampers and springs can get nice handling without compromising comfort too much. It's my daily car remember.
Cheap coilovers (unlike expensive $3K+ ones) are HARSH, no matter how you adjust them! I've had 1st hand experience with my mate's cars. It would make life very uncomfortable on Brissies crap streets and roads. Cheap coilover are good for the track, but shit for daily driving.
When you install ur coilovers, you'll know what I mean. Your missus will whinge from a sore arse LOL.
Maybe you can get cheap coilovers that don't rattle your bones, but I am yet to find them. That's my experience and what I've heard from others anyway.
Mike ;)
