I personally would have no hesitation in recommending the Euro & I am sure many here would agree with that recommendation. The pinging problem is a dead issue & has been resolved.

1-As previously stated the pinging problem has been rectified.
2-Please explain how Honda "screwed up" the engine in the CU2.
3-I fail to see where the CU2 Auto is gutless when you can comfortably sit on double the speed on the open road.
4-Sure the CL9 was a very good car, But the CU2 is better in every area (type R, step in here as an oner of both models)
5-Personally, there is no way I would buy a CL9 in front of a CU2.

1- If the pinging problem has been rectified then why does my friends 3 month old CU2 ping like crazy ?? Oh, if there is a problem each individual owner has to go through the anguish, inconvenience and hassle of getting HA or their dealer to move on this. The proof is in the driving and Honda are still selling vehicles with the problem.
2- Blind Freddy can see how Honda screwed up the engine. The CL9 had NO PINGING PROBLEM, the CU2 does, if that's not srewing something up then I don't know what is . Also, this forum with a massive 86 pages ( so far) of debate on the subject proves that their is a huge problem with many disgruntled owners.
3- as stated earlier and I'll repeat, the CU2 feels gutless when directly compared to a CL9, this should not be the case. Is Honda going down the same path as the original 240Z which was light and nimble and then with each successive model (260Z/280Z)grew fat and lazy ?
4-I agree CU2 is much better than the CL9 in many areas, the sharpness of steering , poise and lack of float really impressed me, as well as the faultless build quality. It's just the rotten pinging which leaves me shaking my head.
5- Thank goodness for choice, you stick with the CU2 but I know I'd buy a CL9 over one any day.

I admit there "WAS" a pinging problem but that is now a dead issue once the update is applied correctly.
There may be 86 pages on this thread, BUT HOW MANY RELATE DIRECTLY TO THE ISSUE. less than 1/2.
I do not find my CU2 gutless, you refer to the 240Z, well in fact i did own a 1974 240Z (along with the standard option of a whining differential which was never cured) & there is no doubt in my mind the CU2 is a quicker, better handling & more economical car. If my memory serves me correctly, the 240Z given a long straight road would top out at about 225kph. The CU2 Auto beats that by some margin & is still reasonably stable.
You go ahead & stick with your CL9, I will stick with my CU2 which is a major improvement over the previous model.
Each to their own & by the way, can you name a perfect car. how about a Ferrari F430, who wouldn't love to own 1 regardless of the known problem of fire in the engine compartment.
Is that a fact, what about the 320 I sedan or coupe. 2.0 Litre engine, 115kw @ 6400rpm & 200nm @ 3600rpm. You should find 1 in any BMW dealership.
+1 with buddah here. I've got a CL9 and my dad a CU2 and i would go for the CU2 over the CL9 any day of the week. The CL9 is a great car and when i was looking, no other cars could touch it in terms of overall performance/features/looks at that price point.
But the CU2, sure it has a pinging noise that is largely resolved but as buddah said, what cars dont have their issues? The CU2 engine sounds better than the CL9 as well and i think it pulls harder than the CL9 auto.

Buddah,
If I won the Lotto I'd go straight out and buy a 911 turbo !
Back to the pinging, if there WAS a problem why does my friends 3 month old example ping ? I will advise her to ask Honda to apply the update but shouldn't that have been done defore the car was sold to her ? Are HA/dealers selling cars and hoping for the best ? Maybe the unsuspecting new owner might not notice?
Comparing a CU2 with a 240Z is irrelevant. You miss my point that new models should be better in every aspect, the CU2 has inferior acceleration to the CL9 which shouldn't be so.
Having owned a CL 9 for 3 yrs and then driving a CU2 I was not impressed enough to make me want to buy one. Acceleration was underwhelming and combined with the pinging problem I will steer well clear.

Personally I suggest the update should have been applied, but that is up to individual dealers. Did they have the parts in stock as my understanding is parts need to be ordered.
So your saying that even though the CU2 has grown in size & wieght considerably it should out perform a CL9. That would only happen if a V6 was fitted, that wont happen as Honda already have a V6 Accord. It would also increase the price by around 10K which would then put it in a different buyers market.
I don't have an issue with the performance in any way.
Hmmmm euro27, i've friends that have been driving cl9 for the same duration like u, but they said the oposite... Also, i only need to drive both car for 15 mnts to choose which one should i go buy...
Also not all new model are always better than the previous one... Rx7 vs rx8? skyline r34 vs skyline v35?
Your thoughts are in the majority Denot, some know very little about cars & to quote an old saying within the trade, "people want a Rolls Royce at a Budget Price". That will never happen.
As for taking sides with Honda, that will never happen. I only post what I find & believe to be fact. I originally had the pinging issue as well for just over 15,000km. That problem was resolved completely & I have not had an issue with that since the update was applied over 10,000km ago. As for other warranty issues, they amount to a grand total of 0.
