Yep, won't do nothing. As said you need points to give out points. So you need to receive rep from a green block member.
Click on 'Setting' up the top right. It will say 'Latest Rep Received' and will show the latest points received.
Thanks, yeah i knew that i was just wondering what the grey blocks do. Ive come back from -12 points though! Got neg repped by benjamin and bludger in one go for a stupid comment...lesson learnt! lawl
I guess ill have to post up some DIY's, most of the good ones have been taken though lols. ill find something though

I think that there needs to be a re-enforcing of the idea of giving out rep points, and make it more clear to newer members.
What happens is that very limited amounts of "thanks" are given out, because many people do not know how to use it.
I am not really that fussed, but some people I am sure would like to have the ability to sell something and be recognised as a "member" of the community. Rather than just a newbie. Especially if they have been on this site for over a year or so.
I guess there's no harm in promoting it (ie get people to hand out more points).
As for letting new users know about it, it's there in bright Red text at the forum index when you sign in. It's also there in the Marketplace as a sticky.
How much reputation needs to be spread around before you can give it to the same user again? Although this stops you from consistently and unfairly building one person's rep it also prevents you from giving them good rep for multiple useful posts.
Also I'm not sure how I feel about grey-block members not being able to add reputation to others simply because they've received none. Even if ten grey-block reps only gave you one point together I think it would be better than nothing as most people can recognise a quality post with or without their own recognition.
^ i agree, ive had about 8 or 9 grey block PQ points. would be cool if ya got even just +1 for 10 grey blocks
I'm not sure about the time/points you have to spread around before you can give points back to that same person. But as you said, it prevents people abusing the system to some degree, giving points out to each other. And note that if this is detected it will not be dealt with lightly. If this prevents you giving a genuine point to the same member then its just bad luck. Just keep sharing around and you'll be able to rep them in the future.
You need points to give out points, its as simple as that. So if you don't have anything, you can't give anything out. The more points you have and the more green blocks you have the more points you give out in each rep. The 10 grey block, +1 point as stated above simply goes against how it all works. These guys have no rep at all and your asking for 1 point? Or to put it this way: 10 grey block reps x 0, cannot equal 1 point.
People just need to stick with it, be patient, make some good helpful posts/links etc. The PQ system is there for a reason.
I think Dean covered it all in his post above.
The rep/PQ spread is currently set to 15 users. Once again, this is to prevent abuse of the system (has happend in the past).
i really wish i could sell parts on here :( should be minimum 50 or 100 posts because as mentioned before some users don't know how to thank..but i guess to thank/rep someone you have to be a member which means you know how to haha
