It will be interesting to see what happens to the price of the current batch of s2k's if Honda goes ahead with the new model
A lot more will go up for sale. I reckon there are definitely some real clean garaged examples people aren't letting go of.
You need to get out there and test drive as many as you can
Don't be afraid to inspect/test drive some that are at the higher end of the price range (the clean, no mods, low km examples) so you truly know what a S2K is suppose to drive like and then use that as a comparison point for the others
Right now your just comparing lemons with lemons
so whats the chances of the boosted s2ks blowing within a few months of ownership?
the one with the novi comptech supercharger in Melbourne for $26k has had its price dropped $6k within the past month. if worst comes to worst, wouldnt it make sense to just buy it at that price with the amount of km's on it and if the interior is in good condition and just return it to stock?
most of the 2003 model s2ks are asking $30k
Just checked out the white 99 s2k with 135,000kms. Front shocks are hammered so the test drive was bad since you couldn't tell if the car was knocking from them or from some other area. Guards have been rolled and the left side skirt has had the shit gutter bashed out of it.
I heard that its had a heart transplant before somewhere on here or s2ki
Well the little metal plaque with the vin and year make on it is scratched up and you can't make out the final 4 digits
There ya go
Also inspected a 00 SSM S2K 82,000kms - interior was terrible, seats in pretty bad nick, body was banged up and in the boot there was heaps of what seemed to be small pieces of tobacco?
Oh haha I was referring to the silver supercharged! My bad
The chances are X.
And X is dependent on how it was set up and how the new owner drives it.
I have read a few of your posts and I'm getting the feeling you are a bit paranoid. What if it blows? What if Honda bring out a new model? I'm not surprised your current ride is listed as a Corolla. No risk there. Maybe the S2000 is not for you.
I hope that Honda don't bring out another s2000 and ruin it. Keep it classic and unique (it'll be a flop if they release that ugly white thing that's been getting around on the net). Not to mention the ugly vehicles honda has been releasing lately.
I'm always on the look out for something new, something that will surpass the excitement of driving my s2000 everyday, but nothing (within reason and budget) has come close in pushing me to sell it
Besides a white or blue ap2 of course
Are you both daily driving them?
Nope. Got 78K on the clock.
Yeah I am. 62,000 on the clock but I drive to work which is only about 3km away. Including the weekend I drive about 100kms max
Btw anyone looked at the silver ap2 in Victoria??
has anyone checked the one out in prestons

Spoke to the owner recently - he didn't really seem to know much about the car, its sitting on compressed springs that kinda turned me off about it
Also went to inspect http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/granv...ble/1024496825
Knew it was a long shot as it was at a no-name dealer and it was priced surprisingly cheap for 90,000kms, the place didn't look to professional and the car ... was definitely a no-go for several reasons.
So far have inspected 3 within the last few days unfortunately all being in pretty bad nick :(
Anyone checked this out yet?

Anyway that was my S2k sold it about 2 years ago at 100xxxkms,
Happy to give history about the car if interested.
just checked out the GPW 2001 s2k with 81000km being sold for $28k. Rear bumper is scratched up and chipped, missing screws from inside the guards. Engine is chipped and scratched, drivers side seat is worn to the point of tearing, and thats just the good points. The front bumper has a crack and is chipped from a noticeable hit on the front and is dislodged from the right head light. The guy did a two bit job of cutting into the bonnet for the mugen airbox to fit. And there is about a 5 cm tear in the soft top.
Looks like some of the more expensive ones can be just as shit as the $18-19k priced ones.
From the pics and what's been done to it I wouldn't be surprised to have found all those issues. Look at the thing!
Damn that sounds pretty roughed up, sounds like we are in the same situation
I'm not afraid to out more cash for something clean but it just seems like all the ones on the market right now have been molested quite bad yet they are still asking for mid 20s.
The most recent S2K i've inspected there was a key mark atleast 20-25 cms long that the owner claims he never saw until i inspected it (What a coincidence)
I'm currently 4/4 inspections that ended disappointed
like i have been saying. no point wanting to try and get a clean one for all that extra money. just get a roughed up one, mod it and tidy it up. simple. the 10k youll save can go towards a heap of mods.
Unless you're one of those that want original and no mods, than i dont justify buying a neat one for heaps more and then modding it.. leave the unmodded ones for those that want them unmodded, but then eventually the next owner will mod it. that's how it is with these jap cars.
exactly.
Not expecting every bit of the car to be in absolutely gorgeous condition but i definitely know my money can get me a more better one with some patience than the ones i have been seeing lol.
If you wait you'll eventually find one in good condition. They're out there, just hard to come by. And, you have to be prepared to pay.
I don't see the point in paying less and then bringing it up close to showroom condition - it's gonna cost you to do so.
I paid 3k extra for mine because it had 57,000km and was immaculate. It was either mine or another which had 99,000km. It was clean, but not like the one I bought.
Just buy a good one from the get go.
i dont think you got the intended meaning of my posts. you will still require upholstery and mechanical repairs on a 10yr old car, regardless of its purchase prices and how much it has been driven, unless ofcourse it has already been done before your purchase of the car. everyone needs to stop expecting showroom quality from an s2000. you're better off buying one cheap, bringing it upto and even better than showroom quality. ie aftermarket mods that will be stronger and last longer than the OEM bits. the s2000 has a million known problems that will come and bite you down the track. just giving you my advice from experience. having bought 2 s2000s that everyone would agree was clean. turned out still needing a lot of maintenance. that's just the nature of the car.
output shaft bearing is known to not get oil to it and shit itself, diff is known to shit itself(many different causes to), gearbox brass synchros are known to shit them self, cv joints are known to shit them selves, axle nuts are known to get loose, subframe and suspension components are known to get loose nuts and bolts, tct is known to go, soft top is known to wear, soft top is known to leak/seals need replacing or cracks in the material, soft top catchers/strikers are known to wear/go loose, radio door is known to shit it self, clutch slave cylinder is known to shit itself, thrust/spigot bearing is known to shit it self, clutch replacement is known to cost an arm and a leg, starter motor shitting itself(hard job on the s2, just like very other job on the s2).. ill be here forever listing all the known problems this car has.
i've twice now, paid more for a clean one that hasn't had mechanical issues or repairs done this n that.. and they've all ended up appearing sooner or later. only trying to help people make a wiser decision.. but hey, your decision. i can only give my opinions and advice.
i'd say after they hit the 100k mark. the only issues on there that is dependent on the mod being done, is the cv joints due to lowered height which my first one had, but i've seen many posts of other members cars. on here and s2ki that have experienced these issues at very low mileage..
plus you always have the added risk of buying a car you think is original condition, but may not have been in its past years.. you just never know, so that is why i'd rather save the initial extra 10k i'd blow away thinking im getting a clean one and have that spare for when these issues arise.. you buy one at 60-80ks. you'll just be playing the waiting game, waiting for them to happen one by one.
lol..
anyways! i've said what i need to. dont need to repeat it a million times! loll.. good luck with the search.. anyone in melb, i'm willing to help sus out the cars if you're wanting a second opinion on them..
Was very keen on the black one in SA, was 23.5k but was then raised to 25.5 - spoke to the owner and she is pretty firm on 25.5k
lol u don't neccesarly need upholstery repairs on an s2k, my s2k had immaculate seats and got compliments by everyone that inspected the car and was by far the cleanest interior of all the s2k's I'd looked at... all it takes is proper maintenance and they'll last you a while..
sold mine for 22, I'm just saying given the prices of S2000's range between 15 and 30 just because one is more expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's the better one but at the same time just going #YOLO and buying the cheapest one on carsales coz you assume you're going to have to put in the same work for any S2000 is wrong aswell, any honda mechanic could have vouched for mine, the guy that bought it from me was a sales consultant at a honda and bought their service manager for the inspection, and the car was regularly serviced by another honda service centre, it didn't need a single piece of mechanical or interior quality work done to it.
Anyone looked at this:

Get onto it if you're looking for one in nsw
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...S2000-15378202
Are you certain it's been resprayed? The engine bay looks clean as from the pics
Sorry wrong one I thought you were referring to the last one I posted which has 68000km on it
Good luck with it mate. It looks like its in great condition and has been well kept.
anyone checked out the white s2k at perth with ridiculous low 30000 kms? Not sure how genuine the kms are.
He has the Qube Engineering cluster LED's, which requires the complete removal and disassemble of the cluster to install so you know his cluster has been taken out before
Whether he tampered with the KM module or swapped out a whole different cluster while his old cluster was out, well only he knows...
Log books that match up with the KM's would make it seem more genuine, but then again he could of purchased a low KM cluster of a wrecked S2K (to install the QE LEDs) and got the corresponding log books of the same car
Isn't the qube mod on an exchange basis? Meaning the cluster would not be original
anyone here inspected the white s2k at perth with 30000kms? What u guys think?
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/armad...ite/1021057305
that one is dodgy as fak. body is in quite ad condition and the km's are probably fake as said above.
Anyone inspected this one?
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d.../?Cr=1&sdmvc=1
This looks pretty good to me and only a few mins up the road.
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/newma...k-s/1019250849
I saw it about 3 weeks ago. The guy has kept it in shmick condition. Not much bolster wear and the body is really clean. Only issue with the inspection was that he didn't let me test drive because I was under 25 at the time and apparently his insurance policy doesn't cover anyone under 25. I rode shotgun and the engine sounded healthy, and no odd clutch or gear box noises. Ride was a little harsh due to the coils but that's expected. He wasn't negotiable on price at the time but I think he is now.
$21500-22000. I wouldnt have tried to low ball him, as its in great condition.
I checked this 2003 monte carlo blue one with 54000kms on the ODO today http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d.../?Cr=1&sdmvc=1
The thing is in absolute show room condition. Paint is immaculate, seats are insanely well kept. You could eat your breakfast off the engine bay and the gear box is smooth as. The owner is in his 70s and uses it about once every couple of months due to his aging frame. Will do rta and ppsr checks on it during the week and then see if hes got any wiggle room in the price.
That possible cut and shut s2k is now being parted out

Proud new owner of a SSM S2K! :D
congrats mate. which one did you pick up?
Yeah muzukashi which one
Wasn't advertised a mate's mate owned it - i wasn't planning on getting it as i jus came back from an inspection from the 1 i posted about earlier for 24k and was quite happy with this one other than the price, but this 1 was just so damn clean and healthy i couldn't say no.
Just ticked over 100,000kms, books up to date, brand new glass roof and HD clutch other than that stock as rock, body is a 9.5/10 and motor was solid - injen is at home and waiting & will be after a lip soon!
