coolant use...

Hey guys, seeing that there are soo many threads about oil choice, just wondering about the neglected coolant side of things.

I am in a current situation of my radiator spliting and now about to replace it which means a new intake of coolant...

I have read plenty of posts about why honda say to use honda coolant, but what does everybody else run in theres??

Has anybody had any good runs with some coolants and bad runs with others?

Its in this section as it is for my integra vtir and thought that coolant use may be engine specific(??)

people on nissan usa forums, suggest nissan users even use honda coolant.

any coolant with glycol in it is good enough.

nulon 90 plus or even 70 plus is good.

tectaloy is good to but it costs bit more, nulon is like 11 bucks 5 litres.

i know coolant. my car chews it like fuel unfortunately and almost over heats everytime i thrash the shit out of it. in spirited mode my car sits at 100 degrees, which isnt to bad. thats with nulon 70 plus aswell. you can use water wetter to bring your temps down to. its like proven 5 degrees cooler

make sure you bleed the shit out of your system, and dont get a peice of shit radiator

stick to oem, if not take the rest of my advice

$11 for 5L, mind showing me a link? cheapest i found was like $22-23 premixed lol

not everything is on the internet. go to your local autobarn. shits 11 dollars for 5 litres premixed. were talking nulon 70 plus not tectaloy is like 30 dollars for the top range one

So using normal coolant from Autobarn is fine? Awsome, is there anyajor operating differences between using Honda coolant and normal coolants? Ie. Does one work better the the other?

Hisoka, I have my radiator, new oem on it's way, didn't want to waste me time
doing the same job twice when it could be done once properly...

Honda coolant is compatible with the alloy water pump material. Honda coolant is also a long service coolant and can be used for up to 100,000km/5 years. I've been running Honda coolant since new (2004) and have only done one coolant change since then. There are no leaks, rust, corrosion or failures in the 6 years. Honda coolant may be more expensive (roughly $60 for 5L) , but when you consider that it lasts 5 years, that's only $12 per year, which is cheaper than any engine oil ($30 x 2 = $60 per year).

OEM Honda, Coolant are the best.

2003 Model DC5R, did one coolant change. Had no problems with it.

did you notice any corrosion with the use of non OEM coolants?

go OEM, it's a good quality product. Don't cheap out, it's good. I can;t say I've ever seen any corrosion using Honda coolant.

If you look at the Nulon website, they list what standards and specifcatoins their own red and green coolants meet. They meet GM, Ford, Toyota, Volve and even Mercedes Benz and BMW. However, you won't find them saying that they meet Honda coolant specification.

Whatever you do, don't use Nulon's green coolant. That is a hybrid coolant that contains silicates which will cause abrasion and wear on aluminium cooling systems.

why would nulon green be suitable for these other car manufacturers (who I could probably guarantee have aluminum blocks, heads, etc) but not for aluminum Honda engines. the aluminum they use is probably the same
