how safe is running nos thru a stock engine? like probly a 50 or 60 shot.. well to be more exact.. runnin a 50 shot of nos thru a b18b engine? anyone done it before? i wanna do it for a bit before i start with my new engine.. just to hav the ultimate "stock" gsi ;)
No not safe. No matter what engine it is or however its tuned. People do it, and go on about how good it is, until they post a thread up "my engine blew up" or "black smoke out of my exhaust, why?"
You reduce your engine life by alot, even if its tuned.
i've seen one person do it on a old old old R31 Skyline GTS... i think RB20?
neway he rebuilt the engine with good components, serviced it regularly, with sensible boost (i think 12psi) and 25HP nos more for the wank factor than nething else... he did drive it hard but wasnt to track or nething...
he NEEDED a rebuild (as in conrods were loose due to stressed bearings or something) after 80,000Km. thats 80K after full rebuild
hmmmm.....NOS??? fun but not worth the money and the headache unless you are in that business.....other wise if you have money to throw away than yeah why not??
nitrous in its most basic form is just an oxygen molecule combined with two nitrous molecules. It has no color or smell and will not harm the atmosphere in any way. When nitrous is introduced to the normal air and pressure that we breathe it turns into a gas.
Contrary to popular belief nitrous by itself will not make any power for an engine. All the nitrous does is give the engine more oxygen to burn fuel with, just like a turbo. When the nitrous hits the engine the additional oxygen helps to burn the fuel at a much faster rate, which in turn provides more power to drive a piston down faster in the piston chamber and thus creates more power. The key to the whole equation is fuel and how much power can be harnessed by the consumption of fuel. If this combination is not correct then it will lead to an uncontrolled bust of energy otherwise known as detonation inside the engine. When this happens one can expect to experience burnt pistons, blown rings, and thrown rods. Yes, not good at all!! This is where the problem lies with the bad reputation that nitrous has in the performance community.
ive got a vid clip of an NSX motor blowing on a dyno supposedly because it was running nos prior to the dyno tune/test.
why would u waste your money on it when u could put that money towards mods for your new engine??
and i hope u realise u cant use nos on the street?
the only condition that i would buy and use them is when i m playin some car games with PS2
it is safe in small amounts.
get a small 'dry' kit. fit it get it tuned and be happy.

This is the SAFEST way, and of course, you need to account for the additional O2 molecules by richening the mixture. In other words, Tune it!

so its just as safe to use as tuned turbo/supercharger set up??
if not tuned correctly a F/I motor will ping till somethings goes (hope its head gasket)
but if nitrous is tuned correctly its just as safe as a turbo setup?
maybe even more parctical as it can be switched off.
