Currently have a 1998 civic ek
Tempted to put a b18cr into it just for the fact that they are type r. However I have read that the k's have potential for a much higher hp.
I'm looking for an engine that I can push to at least 3-400 N/A
Would prefer the b18. Is it possible for it to have that much power??

so i want to get 1000hp out of this otoman...honestly civics never have been about big power dyno monsters, they are about good power to wieght and and awsome handling, its not a clubsport champ, there are exceptions obviously but...

As mentioned above, what is your budget and do you plan on getting the car engineered?
Honestly 130kw at the wheels is a handful to deal with on the street if your not careful, yet alone 200kw.
Best way to go about it dollar-hp wise is forced induction, but if you love n/a, cant beat a b20/vtec or k20/k24 frank

Budget is not an issue. Just the more it costs means more saving. In all honesty I want to take the b18cr. Bore and stroke it with sleeves. Upgrade the internal pistons, cam shafts.
And no. Can't boost the d16y4. Unfortunately the internals are too weak to handle anything more than 7 or 8 psi. But unfeotunately not many turbos can handle such low psi.
So an engine swap is a must for decent hp. Combined with the fact that I'm gonna need to rebuild my trans due to bad bearings. Cheaper to do a swap of the tranny, as well as the fact I can put a nice LSD in ;) May as well do the engine while at it.
So you reckon to just do a k swap and build that? Is there anychance of 300 out of a b18? They're standard 194 :/
This will definitely be a long build.
I want the best block that can stand and produce some nice horse power. I'm not worried about what the civic is designed for. Thats another thread.

No amount of money is going to get you 300-400kw out of a B or K series N/A
B18c with work done + tune will get around the same power as a kswap with bolt ons and tune
if you add up the price of buying a b18c and rebuilding the engine, Parts for the engine, Run in tunes, and considering it wont be as reliable as a stock k series and is a 13+ year old engine/ design. I personally think it would be around the same money as a kswap.
OR
kseries either do the swap yourself which would cost around 8-15k depending what mods you want to do for a basic setup. Or paying someone 15k for a basic setup(but less headaches.) Basic set up should set you anywhere from 135 to 145kwatw, but also more reliable and can be driven daily. Plus if you want to further build the car you could easily get it to 150kw with a few better mods. A basic kswap that i would consider would be a stock k24, 2.5 in exhaust+ headers, tune, PRC intake, aftermarket intake and 6 spd euro gearbox. That should be seeing a 135kwatw mark and should only cost 4k for the motor setup Plus the extras to put it in the car another 4k for misc parts you should be sitting at 8-9k for the swap given you do it yourself. People overthink kswaps. They really can be cheap. If your looking to get 300kw you would have to go boost. Atleast need 30k.

Just read about some fellas down in Sydney pushing out 400hp with boost in a k24. Would you be able to get 300hp (200kw) n/a if the same set up? I actually think they are on here somewhere.

Thats just a basic setup for street. It will start to get very pricey if you want to set it up for circuit however.
easy 200kw. And if the engine blows (unlikely). It will cost you another 1k to replace? definitely a winner.
Personally i would go F/I for the reliability of driving it everyday.
We've built K20/K24 All motor combination that make over 300hp at the crank. 400hp is achievable and has been done many times before. If you have the budget to do it, then why not.
Our current engine in the drag car produces over 205kw at the front wheels with a basic combination. I've also got another K25 in an Ek9 that will make 215kw once its all dialed in. K-series is the only way to go! Spend it once, spend it right and don't look back with regrets
Remember when building a car with all that power, other aspects of the car will need to be address. Gearing is critical, suspension set-up, brakes etc etc
I've actually been reading a lot of their stuff. They are killing the import scene.

Benson yours are absolute machines. Is it aight if I just throw you questions every now and then on what would ultimately be the best set up.
Most definitely leaning towards a k swap. Just saw that yours is a mini me head swap. Never really thought about it on the k's only the d's. Is there much gain out of it??

The suspension is actually the first upgrade I plan to do.

I would start wit a car with the K already in there. More modern car..more features etc etc. Specially if its daily. Then super charge it. That's my plan when i get my license back in a months time. I personally think the 90's honda's interior is getting really outdated for what you pay and nearly every single one has been trashed/crashed by a P plater and the ones that havn't been asking price is just as much as the newer model of the same car. FN2R 2007 Model* + Rotex Supercharger + Tune. Nice simple all under 30k as well. Being a new car it will have less K's. Also will make for a great sleeper for them bogan V8's in my area.
In all honesty. I want to keep my ek. I actually really like the appearance of the car. There isn't much better then a nice little black hatch.
But sleeper is exactly what I am looking to do. No appearance mods. Just performance and handling/safety.

K24 paired to a DC5R Transmission is amazing. I just finished my own swap and I can tell you its a great combo.

Before you start deciding that you want a 300-400HP engine, I think you need to start reading and learning about things like compression and what types of cam/intake/exhausts complement it.
I noticed that in your list earlier you had only said "Pistons. Rockers. Cam." but nothing specific.
What compression? What kind of cams? not "Cam", there are two of them. Why would you need to replace the rocker arms??
It's easy enough to say I'm gonna do all this and it should grant me 300HP, but in reality this kind of thing will not be easily achieved in an N/A four cylinder without each piece complementing the next. It's important to understand what you are using and WHY.
However, in regards to what engine you should start off with, I agree with Vvvtec. K24 is definitely your best shot at this. Having the big displacement will be excellent for big power.

MASSIVE BUT, it's not an easy task and needs the right combination of parts, I don't think there is any aftermarket shit out there that will always yield x amount of power, there is always custom headwork involved that is dependant on who does it. One person in this country was doing his own CNC heads and managed to get the right amount of power out of them. Even then he was still improving/working on it to keep chasing that goal, which is the same for everyone.
K series there is combinations off the shelf that will get you 300hp. 215kw has been done in this country before from an all motor k series, many years ago.

Has OP actually driven or been in a 250hp Honda? They are awesome. I think you're just looking for numbers as opposed to a great driving experience. You're aiming for something you've never experienced. If you aren't building this car for the strip I recommend not going for 300-400kw. Start with a B or K swap and if you feel that's not enough, keep modifying. You will need boost eventually if you do. Don't start with such a high standard, because you miss out on the fun of building the car step by step.
If you just want power I would honestly recommend a Supra, GTR, or almost anything boosted from factory. When boosting an NA engine you generally sacrifice some reliability unless the builder is very experienced with that particular engine/car. You will also go through a shitload of money for a product that isn't that much better. Sorry to be a bit negative but that is the truth.
200kw on a K-series is a walk in the park these days especially with the aftermarket support and development of parts

That's what I was planning to do. Slowly increase power step by step. Learn to handle and treat it with each step of power up.
As for whether I have been in a high power honda. Not a honda. But a very nice large 545 big block chevved ford coupe. Once you've been in something that goes 0-100 in as little time as it does. You get hooked. Bad.
However. As for the ecu swap and harness cut.
Would a stand alone fuel management work??
Yeah standalone fuel management is good and will work fine but with Honda's we generally go with Hondata which is a chipped factory ECU.
k24 franks are runnings 10's n/a in the states . dont listen to anyone if you have the dollars go k swap any day
