HID's and the globes...

hey all,
i am a little confused bout the whole HID thing.. i've heard bout changing the globes for the car to "phillips and getting a whole HID kit... the prices are quite different as you would expect.. i'm just thinking if you DO get just the globes which are up to 5000W and replace them with your existing ones, where does the 5000W come from cos i'm guessing the factory globes arent quite 5000W :p .. thats where i reckon the HID kits come in... well guys and gals, appreciate if you can give us a hand... i'm a bit of a noob atm..

hid kit runs at 35W
standard bulbs are at 55W

light output (how bright it is) standard bulbs...even those that say "HID" are no where near as bright as the HID kits...

all these 4300K, 5000K, 6000K ....they are colour output readings based on the light spectrum..
4300K is closer to pure white....then about 6000K is bluish, 8000K is starting to get purple...

High Intensity Discharge....

HIDs are also known as xenons. Whereas your normal everyday bulbs are filament type bulbs, HIDs or xenons are filled with xenon gas.

To change from normal bulbs to HIDs, you will need to get ballasts and ignitors and things like that, hence why the kits are so expensive (they include everything you need) compared to white/blue replacement bulbs. That said, you can't buy HID bulbs only and stick them in your headlights and expect them to work.

No, this is just the power used to ignite the gas. It is the gas arc that creates the light. So less power, more light.

I got those on my ED they are so much better than what was in there!
No just need soe white/bluish bulbs on the park lights

h4 is the "size" of ur bulb. h4 means, u can only fit h4 bulbs in ur civic. there are different sizes, llike h4, hb4, h3, h1 etc.

phillips seems to make alright bulbs, from my experience. last quite a while, and light output if pretty good. depending on which model you have, will depend on the color etc.

phillips make bluevision, diamond vision, crystal vision etc.

anyone knows wat dc2R uses? which globes?..and you reckon anypoint in me getting a HID kit?

h4 is just your globe size man -_-

Correct......otherwise known as the the colour temprature of the light (ask any serious photographer) :)

One of the significant factors of HID lamps over conventional globes is that they are more efficient at converting electricity to light. Hence why 35W HID globes create more light than their 55W counterparts that are found in normal production cars.

HID's are way cool lol...i got 4300k HID's looks hektik at night fingz turn bluish...

on a side note...
i think some.. if not most street lamps use Xenon gas as well...

the 98 JDM itr comes wid stock HID's

n get em if u got 600-700 bukz to spare... they will increase night visiblity and give u that 'look' (with the bright bluish/white/purplish light)...
but if the colour temp is too high .. u'll get defected :S
