Well the project is in its final stages and its time to choose an ECU. Was goin to get an Autronic but its a little outa my price range at this moment in time.
The question is that should i get the microtech or the hondata?
I need some experienced answers here ie people who have delt with both systems and what they recommend.
By the way, its for a built h22a turbo.

if we were in america, id say hondata. its proven to be easily tuned and has great control over STOCK sensors.. but we are in australia.....
as for the microtech, it replaces many factory sensors and u often combine it with aftermarket ignition.. i cant comment as far as i know if its not installed right, u'll have problems for a long time.
I heard that Microtech has often earnt the name microwreck.
Hondata seems to have proven its turbo capacity on the b series engines as far as james's car goes i guess.. though no one knows how much extra cash has gone into that car to make it good.. maybe talk to him in private and get some advice..
I have a mate that tells me a Haltech ECU can also manage a turbo honda engine quite well too though i havent seen it for myself. Though i dunno on the cost of them. I can email him if you like.. let me know.

Ok here we go again Microtech changes NO SENSORS it uses all the factory Honda stuff.And the other post about microwreck that is not the correct way to talk about something that did not happen to you just another friend of a friend BULLSHIT story.If they where no good for Hondas do you think that Online would use it in there 9sec Turbo CRX drag car and ALLMTR in his 12 sec N/A civic.It is all about the way they are tuned and I have used them for years and still do they are great value for money ECUs.Quote:

above all else, you should consider which your tuner prefers, after all, his (or her :P)the one getting results from your car.
PandaCRX what is the reason for the photo that blow up had NOTHING to do
with Hondata it was a missed gear on the downshift.So I do not see what putting the photo has to do with the question asked about Hondata or Microtech.If Peter the owner of the car see's the photo up he will ask you to remove it as he just see's $$$$$$$$$$$$ when looking at it.

Cos once you add boost and odb2 conversion to odb1 etc the hondata price goes up a fair bit and they dont even really compete with each other anymore? would i be right in saying that dynodave?

i am by far an ecu expert but as i have been hunting for an ecu myself coz i'm doin an engine swap and microtech has been recomended by many as great value for money, including tuners themselves
never new microtech pluged&played. thats some good value then! i spose it comes with a 3bar also?

oh and in my case microtech was better (bang for buck) coz i need stand alone unless i wanna fork out extra 495 bux for vtir ecu for the hondata to plug into so yeah i guess depends on your aplication. i'm keeping mine NA for now and i've been told microtech will definitely do the job =/
So we all agree that Microtech is the way to go budget wise. I'd like to note that it took me a year and 4 workshops to find someone that could actually make the car run like a normal car and work well under boost. I have seen a couple Hondas turboed one using the Autronic (Andy) and the other using the Microtech (Neil). Both of these cars have a very bad cold start and idle. Mine used to have a bad idle problem also, but Dean from Technik Tuning ( who supplies Unichip) has mastered it and my car idles at cold and normal operating temp like a dream.
You need more than a good ecu to get a good result. A good tuner should be able make your setup work at it's best. Just my 5 cents.
My Autronic cold start and idle is better than factory. Its all in the tuners ability with the chosen engine management system.
I didn't know you could get a better cold start and idle than a stock OEM ECU on a stock car?

Did you utilise the Autronic "Autotune" feature when tuning the car?
Do you have any comments on the way this tunes the car?
Are you using the SMC, SM2 or one of the plug in boards they have for Honda?

microtech isnt plug and play, but for their money i dont see any other ecu compete in their price bracket that can handle boost etc without worrying about conversions and other such things etc.
Im a fan of the autronic. me and neil wish to boot dave in da ball sacks.....boot iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!

i run a microtech LT8. hard to start in the morning, but is good bang for bucks. if i had the extra dosh (soon) i will definately be changing to autronic like shecomb has. these things are too good and well worth the money!

seriosuly autronic shiets all over anything else i ever seen or used.
not saying microtech are bad though.. it does the job well, and havent really had any probs with it. and theres probably more tuners who are familiar with the microtech range than there is autronic. i know dave can tune a vtec turbo setup quicker and better than anyone out there.
wouldnt write them off. but if you want (and can) spend the money i would recommend autronic from what ive seen, heard and basically experienced, but just remember....in the end YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!

I've been through a few management ecus and most i would have to say do not have a good cold start. Factory has always seemed the best to me.
I've had a wolf 3d & a link system. both were a pain to start in the morning.
Only after i got my woldf retuned by Hitman did it start better.
Usually if you can get around it try getting you standard ECU chipped or buy a plug in ECU. I would prob recommend a Apexi Power FC as they plug in to your normal systems(generally). I've seen them in a few Civic Vti-r and they are great.
But if your not able to get a plug in i have heard the haltechs and Microtechs are good if you get them tuned properly. This could be an expensive task though.
Id like to throw my Mugen Racing ECU into the picture to vs these other ECUs.
OK the Mugen one isnt programmable but it does offer some really nice power.
I am now looking at a VAFC2 to fine tune the air/fuel etc.
DynoDave, What can you say to me to convince me the Hondata ECU is better for me and why should i buy one over the Mugen ECU ?

maybe .. Id love Motec but i also want my Airconditioning.
Dont get me wrong, the Mugen ECU is good but i wouldnt mind some fine tuning abilities. Im also assuming Autronic to be fairly costly as well.

There is only one problem with the Mugen ECU is that it is tuned for Jap spec fuel and from what I have found when we have pulled them out and fitted another type of ECU that we can programmed we have made more power and they car was much better to drive.I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you that one brand is better than another it all comes down to your budget and your choice of tuner.So good luck if you take the plunge and go to a programmable ECU you will not regret it. :thumbsup:Quote:

we have a Microtech LT8 in my Gfs Civic, its a good ecu I think... however we are experiencing some weird cut outs when the cars starting ie: hard to start, or even when dropped into neutral when hot... it just stalls.
I've just emailed the tuner who originally tuned the car - but generally - what causes such a fault? is it an ecu issue?
Have you thought about AEM Ecus? one of the guys here uses one for his Civic, and swears by it... says its one of the Best ECUS - unfortunatelly i think its around the 2K mark....

your tuner has to adjust the cold start, and well the cut out could be related to the fuel cut defender......car would stall if it does not have enought fuel delivery............i had a LT8 on my WRX and cold starts were perfect and had none of the problems you are having :DQuote:
