Accord Euro - Motor Magazine rant

I really like Motor but disappointed they have not run an article on the Euro yet. What is it with Motor mag and Honda? :confused: They seem to test very few Hondas....As a loyal reader I am getting sick of all the articles on Falcons and Commodores....

Anyway - in the Nov Mag they list the Accord Euro Luxury in the "HotSource" list of cars. But there is no review. What the? All it says is:

" :) Don't worry about the V6 Accord, the four-potter is a gem, so is the six-speed manual. :( Where's the Type R version?"

So obviously they have tested the car but have not included a review in the mag? Bloody tossers..

if you want good write ups on the euro i suggest you get wheels, there have been a few articles and they currently have one as a long-termer

euro went well last yr in COTY - made the final cut with RX8 (winner), toyota kluger (!?!?!?) and toyota prius

nah mate. all those cars in hot source are what they consider to be 'hot' or hi-po or whatever. its just their opinion on it, they may not have necessarily tested it

for example, they have the lancer VRX and mazda 2 in the 'hot list'. surely that is stretching the definition of high-performance just a little? :D

Check the car list at the back of Motor magazine. Last I checked (July 2004), the Euro was not in the pricelist!

Wheels magazine is good. They reviewed the Euro twice, first the Luxury Manual on a standalone review, and then the Luxury Auto in the huge comparison between the Euro, Mazda6, Liberty 2.5 and Vectra 2.2.

sorry dude, but it's in the current issue (nov 2004) under sedans under 60K

Hehe, Is this the first month that it is in the Motor pricelist?
I don't subscribe to any, but I buy Wheels when they have good articles, which is roughly 7-8 issues a year.

Does anyone happen to have this copy of wheels with the standalone review of the manual euro luxury? somehow i have never come across that review, and since i have the car, it would be an entertaining and interesting read.

If someone on this forum happens to have the copy, could you please scan that review and post it on this thread? i, along with many others would certainly be very appreciative:)

My take on Motor Magazine is... As long as it's not an Aussie built car, some big V block sports car, T/C or S/C powerhouse or some hypo euro fuel burners... they are not interested :P :P

That's why I stopped subscribing....

The editor of Motor was the editor of hot4s. Nuff said.

I susbcribe to Wheels and its much better

Motor does not impress me. They do the most mundane test, EVER!

HSV GTS vs. FPV GT vs........Audi RS6....WTF??
Golf R32 vs. Alfa 147 GTA vs.........RX8??....o.k

These were in the Motor road test 2004 :thumbdwn:

Although Wheels is a bit boring sometimes, at least they have better car test and they review a wider spectrum of cars, from $19,990 people movers to concept cars, from all Aus, Japan and Europe. Or just get Speed. Best ever mag for modified cars.

I like that Wheels actually takes the car onto the track and finds out the top speed in each gears, acceleration times in different gears for 80-120 and also puts in the fuel consumption that they experienced during the test. And their 0-20, 0-40, 0-60, 0-80, 0-100, 0-160 and 400m times are useful too.

Actually Motor Magazine did do a review of Euro in the September 2003 issue.

They did review it, but did not put it in the pricelist at the back of the magazine until recently.

Does anyone have a copy of the Motor Sept 03 review? Slipped under my radar as I read almost every edition cover to cover...

I rarely buy motor magazines...i then to buy the european CAR one...it seems to have more in it...although most cars there won't reach here, and also the fact that so many good cars can be bought over there compared to here pisses me

i would like to read about the accord euro luxury auto in the wheels magazine. if i go buy wheels now will there be an article on it?

actually, with the Dunlop 2050M tires, the Euro Wins (as stated in Feb04 COTY edition of Wheels)

the liberty wasn't a clear cut winner, it was just the choice as a drivers car. don't get me wrong- subaru liberty's are great cars. my mum has one- its really good to drive, despite the lack of power (RX 2.5 115kw). grip is awesome. i'd have the euro over a 2.5 liberty anyday tho

however, i've driven the new 180kw 3.0R Liberty- its excellent. loads of power on tap, traction is phenominal, and a 13(!) speaker mcintosh stereo however the steering is too light and lacks feel. i also sat in a 3.0R-B, and the gearshift is half as nice as the euro- the throws are a mile apart, and it feels like it 'grinds' into every slot...

thanks aarong for the scan! a very pleasing review:) i wonder if it gains another half star with the new Dunlop 2050M tires :P

Cool, I've got all except the COTY... the 4 way is more informative, because the Aug03 one was when the Euro just started selling in numbers.

sure, different tyres will make a change to the vehicle dynamics. assuming you are good enough to be able to tell it of course

at the end of the day, it's the reviewers opinion. if you are biased towards a particular brand e.g. hondas, subarus etc then no matter what the review says, if you feel strongly enough and your mind/heart is set on it, then you'll go get it. and i suppose you live with it. and let people give whatever opinion they want. but as long as you're happy that's what counts

unless you're a punk on L plates who complains they don't have enough power and gets paid out by everyone for being ungrateful j/k :D

anyway yeh. i think the subes are good, the AWD would be esp. good in this weeks' weather if you happen to live in syd! i have been fortunate enough to take a 2.5 heritage (and auto as well, mind you) around bathurst at legal speeds. i thought the power delivery was awesome, really good torque available at low revs.....no understeer or anything, fantastic dynamically

I think I still have the COTY.. have to look it up on the stack though :D

I think the Euro suffered in the reviews because of the Michelin tyres on them at the time.

Hmm, these Dunlops we have are also the cheapest Dunlop for OEM.... My gf's Astra CD also came with the same series of Dunlop, the Sp Sport 2000's. If it fits an Astra CD, then it's not really a sporty tyre. So when we change tyres, it can probably only get better. :thumbsup:

The Dunlops are way better than your post suggests and according to Wheels better than the Michelins.

Don't expect any magic when you change your tyres.

I beleive it is the same shifter as the STI. The 04 STI I have driven has the shittiest gearbox of any car I have driven. It is so mechanical, notchy and rough it is ridiculous in daily driving.

Ohh, yes, I agree that the Dunlops 2050m on the Euro are better than the Michelins, but I am quite sure that performance-wise, that an upgrade on the tyres to one of a performance-orientated series (other brands, not Dunlop) will give the Euro a boost in cornering speed.
