it fell off most likely.. loose connecting to the solenoid ? not enough oil, ect can all lead to vtec not engaging I think there are plenty of threads covering it, check your oil first.
i checked all those but still its not engaging, my oil level is jst a bit up than the required level, u think that mite be the prob. jst cjaged the oil 3 days ago...wat ya mean threads covering it???
he means the same question has been asked before.
use the search button and you will find your answer.
also, type the whole word. not jst hlf ov it.
The VTEC pressure sensor is basically an oil pressure sensor. Insufficient oil pressure, low temperature, a faulty switch, a plugged or faulty solenoid all could cause no VTEC.
Check your oil, make sure you're up to temperature. If VTEC doesn't work, check your wiring. After that, get a manual and start making your way down the trouble shooting list, and it wont matter if ur oil is just abit over the max lvl it shud be fine.
thxxxxx buddyy...
Your VTEC should switch into high cam at about ([S]6,500rpm[/S]) 5,800rpm, not 4500. If you have a VTIR, at (4500rpm) 4000rpm your VVIS opens for slightly more airflow.
It is. You can hear it when you run it on the dyno. It sounds quite moderate up to 5800rpm, then you get the VTEC swap onto high cam, and it suddenly gets a deep voice.
You can see quite clearly on my dyno results when the first cam starts to run out, and it switches to the second. The torque picks up right away:

The VVIS is the same concept as Toyota's TVIS. Toyota uses it purely to provide more low end torque to an engine that is tuned for high rev performance.
Also, above, I got my RPMs mixed up. VTEC comes on at 5500-6000 rpm, while VVIS opens at around 4000.
Been covered so many tym with integra vtir motors with dual stage IM
Vtec comes first then secondary butterflies, u can hear it better at 5800 doesnt mean its vtec.
Y dun you hook up a light bulb to ur vtec switch and see when vtec kicks in
srry guys i had the crome intake pipe thats y couldnt hear the vtec...now i got my stock induction pipes n can here em' roar....thxxx everyone...can someone give me some rep points pls...i wanna sell some items...thank you....
Hey, i will have to do some searching at a mates house, but he has a h22a vtir, and the dyno sheet looks similair to yours.
The vtec comes on first, then secondaries come on second, the reason there is a greater increase at the point of the second switching point is that there is more air getting into the intake manifold, more air, more power....
more open area in the intake manifold, the less resistance for the air to flow through, the more power it will make....
Plus there are alot of respectable websites that show stats for honda motors and the vtec in a vtir is 4500, and secondaries at 5800....
Could you link some of them up please so I can take a look?
As I said, Toyota has TVIS, which operates in exactly the same way as VVIS. In the 4A-GEs I've driven, it is totally progressive, and doesn't give the aggressive change in torque seen at 5800rpm in my VTiRs dyno graph. It feels much more like the slight improvement in breathing my car gets at around 4000rpm, which is so much most subtle than the change at 5800.
I really think that VTEC is coming on at ~5800 in my VTiR. The change in engine note and torque profile is just too aggressive to be VVIS in my opinion.
If you listen very carefully you can hear a change in note at 4400, it's just well muffled by the long primary inlet.

hey got another problem, i bought the intake pipe for my vtir, when i put it on i cant hear the vtec kicking in, when i put the stock intake pipe, then i can hear it...does anyone know y???
what the hell is an intake pipe?
if you're more specific, maybe we can explain for you.
usually, the shorter and more direct the intake duct from where the filter sucks in fresh air to the intake manifold, themore noise you will hear.
maybe with your new intake piep, you're making the flow of air, less direct and therefore would make the noise more muffled.
nah my engines runs cool
Not necessarily a good thing, look here:

yeh i read that b4...but mine is normal....the temperature doesnt drop once u go faster...
take ur noise resonator off, if u have stock exhaust u should be able to hear it. VTi-R has more smooth transition due to the intake manifold unlike b16 or ITR. If your gaining more power after 5k then you have vtec, if you are not gaining or losing then ur vtec fell off
How audible should VTEC be on a bog stock VTI-R(no exhaust, no pod filter mods), I haven't owned a DOHC VTEC before, only a VTi, so I'm a bit of a noob to the VTI-R Teg and don't know if I should be able to easily hear when VTEC comes on....or is it only really noticeable with breathing mods to exhaust and filter? I'd like to be able to it bark when I'm up it!
what shits me is that every man and his dog reckons VTEC is some big magical thing that will make their Honda eat up race tuned V8's and big boost turbo cars.
the fact of the matter is that VTEC is just a stupid name that Dr Honda concocted up to make people think that Honda's have big power while having very economical fuel figures.
it doesn't add an extra 4 cylinders to your car, nor does it magically put a snail under bonnet and wind boost up 10 PSI. Its just a slightly lumpier cam profile.
please people, stop thinking vtec, vtec, vtec is the friggin BESTTTTTTT
That's a stupid response Bludger, and when "every man and his dog" includes me, clearly you're wrong.
It would have been easier to say, "In an small capacity engine biased toward high rpm performance, VTEC makes the low rpm useable and fuel efficient"
not so hard now is it?
expressing ones view to an audience is not one of my qualities, sorry if i offended you.
No, I don't mean you, i never hear you ask " I can't hear my VTEC...."
Or " my VTEC isn't pushing me back into my seat, is there something wrong with it?"""
your description of VTEC is pretty good, but something like that would never come out of my brain. In actual fact, i really wasn't worried about giving an accurate description, but i more wanted to bag the VTEC lovers...
yeah I know how you feel, unfortunately all that the noobs ever hear before buying the car is all the cliche "vtec" lines we're all too familiar with, hence a thread like this where a member is confused and we've answered it a hundred times, but hey I was noob once too lol
That's the way I try to explain it to people who think VTEC is like a turbo. It's not! A 1990 Toyota 4A-GE (1.6 twincam for those who don't know) can be set up to make the same power as a B16A fairly easily without any variable induction system. The 4A-GE will seriously lack power below 3000rpm, and be a temperamental bastard down below 1000rpm.
I prefer VTEC to a turbo though, because it gives me progressive, revvy power and instant throttle response. I'm under no delusion as to which gives me more power for any given displacement though: Turbo, all the way.
To those of you asking for VTEC "kick": Honda actually designed VTEC to be a smooth transition. If it's kicking then it's because Honda hasn't met it's design goals, or you've modified it, ruining the smooth transition (although you might not care, if you get more power).
Sorry god of VTEC, I was under the impression that there should be an audbile change in note when VTEC comes in.....am I completely wrong in thinking this? I have heard it before, moreso on modified Honda's and I was just unsure if a bog stock Integra should be audible. I'm not a Honda fan boy and don't know alot about them, but I liked my Civic previously and thought an Integra would make a good dunga daily for me.....and a few questions aren't a problem, or are they? I don't expect my VTi-R to beat shit all or push me back in my seat, I've owned a few 10/11/12 sec cars, trust me, this thing is slow and I know it!
....and thatnks for the answer T-onedc2....I know I'd asked it before and you'd already answered, I just figured I'd ask again in this thread....and to be honest I'd kind of forgotten I'd asked previously anyway ;)
Don't worry about Bludger, he's just having a whinge. There are lots of people that are like the person Bludger describes, who think that VTEC makes a car better than a regular Atmo engine, and is just better than a Turbo. It annoys all of us.
I, personally, can't hear much of a difference when VTEC comes on. Up until recently I actually thought it came in at 5,500rpm! apparently it comes in at ~4,500rpm and what I thought was VTEC was actually the VVIS valve opening. Go figure!
excuse me, i created this thread jst to see wat was wrong wid my engine, didnt say anything abt vtec giving u boost, my vtec wasnt engaging n thought there might be a problem in the engine, but looks like this whole thing is goin somewhere else....
my dc2 is 100% stock.. feel a tiny 'boost' (more of a nudge like when a lil kid taps at u and it takes u ages to notice it ) @ 4400 then when the secondary butterflies open up at 5700ish i can hear it purr/roar/pull harder as the torque then climaxes up in the 6,7~~ area.. depening on how u drive and what you're actually wanting to hear.. your car will not overly change too fast .. but getting used to it and becoming accustomed to noises/whines you've always heard make ur car go quieter ultimately i guess.. oh and, hot days don't help vtec "sound" that much better/louder either.. :)
^^good description^^
everytime i hit vtec its like there is a box full of bees under my bonnet, i thought this was the same with every other vtec?
my mate has things done to his da9, when the vtec hits, it does wheel spin....
he got da9 block wid b18 head n has got few otha things done to it...he uses that on track, maybe u have seen him, its a green da9
Skremn
lol yeh
