Hey anyone know how to install HID H4 set for an ED by "DIY" ??
thanks :D
Correct me if I'm wrong, but i was under the impression that it is actually illegal to install a HID light, into a lens that was not originally designed for HID lights?
Meaning if you want HID's, and want to be 100% legal, you'll have to buy a full head light designed for HID usage?
I dont think its officially illegal. Though on some non-projector lens the beams bounce of everywhere which can be bad for other drivers.
So if you put HID's on your ED, the lens of the headlight makes for improper/illegal projection?
How would an ED owner get past this?
Maybe thats a local thing about the head lamps having to be replaced...?
All i know is that I'll never put HID's into a lens not designed for it, cause I'll just blind every other person on the raod, and get shitty looking beam spread on the road..
yeah i can vouch that as well
i have an EF crx, basically same type of headlights
i test fitted some HID's on it, and it was shocking, no beam what so ever, just glare,
so if u stood in front of your car, you'll be blind,
and sitting in the car, u see nothing
hmm, well i was impressed by this ED i saw around campsie/canterbury, his plate number was " ur-25-xc" if any one seen it, it has i think 6000k or 8000k hid, and it was really nice it didnt bounce off everywer.. and i have a friend that has an EG with 8000k hid, it seemed fine, nothing bad about it..
hmm...i had 6000K HID's on my ed and i had them beam out the same as normal lights...straight bolt on...
it looks good with the yellowy parkers aswell...gives it a nice 2tone effect...
from what i heard, the legalities come from the way the transformer is mounted...
To clear up the first few points, fitting HIDs into a car that did not come with HIDs from factory is indeed defectable!!
Go search on the forums for your source,
This has been covered so many times that its become general knowledge >.<
Not sure about state by state differences.
so in NSW, having non projector lights and using HID is illegal?
I'd also like to know that, and I'd also like to know if it is a good idea having HID's sitting in stock OEM ED headlights. Will there be a large disturbance to other drivers and will my own vision be affected?
if you have any defects hennesay im an rta examiner bring it to me ccheers
I have HIDs and yes they are illegal, although i have exceptional night vision when they r in use!
Most new model cars now come with HID'S from factory, so really who's to say that they're really illegal?
The way i see it is, if you add modifications to ur car then yes they are defectable no matter what it is, whether u've lowered it, the size of the wheels, the profile of the tyre, exhaust, extractors, CAI, tints.. you name it....
There is no such term as modifying it legally LOL... i doubt anyone does that nowadays, unless the have an engineering certificate to prove otherwise.
so..if i put a aftermarket cd player in i can get defected?
I belive its only illegal if the car wasnt originally designed for them. So BMW's, Subaru's etc, that come with HID's from the factory, its perfectly fine, other wise they would never be able to sell those vehicles.
I also think its legal to have HID's on a car that didnt come with them out of the factory, aslong as you have head lamps designed for them, ie after market head lights, most likely a projector type light set up.
Now this is going off what mates that have been defected for them before are telling me, and this applies in the NT. NFI about other states.
if it affect the performance of the car then yes.
thats what i read in the VSS? document file in pdf from vicroads.
defects dont have to bee what your car came out with. my mates impreza got defected for having a towbar (out of factory) that was deemed to cover part of his rear plate.
That sounds like he got a grumpy old **** of a copper, or he was being stupid and they used any excuse to get him off the road. Technically, if it was a Subaru fitted item, and the car got defected due to it, then the car should not have been sold from new with that accessory fitted.
However, if it was some thing fitted after market, ie by the dealer, or even a previous owner, then it may indeed be a defect.
so you guys think i should get a hid?? coz if i should even though its a defect, im gonna order a 8000k one from over seas lol... still confused
wait...how did a DIY request for if anyone knows how to install HID's on ED's go to this???
*PALM-FACE*
First- HID installs are pretty easy but if you're not confident don't do it, get Ben (Bennjamin) to do it (minimal cost, insurance its 100% and optimally running)
Second- HID's are a defect if they're not in the a special headlight projector thing and to be frank i dont think there are any Headlight Projectors for them (even on ebay).
You can get HID's and put them in your standard thing (like i am gonna have to) but its likely that it will blind people (I don't really wana go HID's but i may, if i do i do only plan to go to 4-6000k)
(Second and a Half) Why is it you want HID's? If you want it bad enough the RISK of DEFECTS will not stop you (Just like the risk of loosing my license has not stopped me from taking Turbo cars around the block :))
as MZXO7K said almost anything you put on a car to make it from STANDARD to NON STANDARD can = Defect, ASM magazine sometime in the past had a letter from a very angry person whom (to cut it short) had just had a shitload of work done to his Rx7 and had it ALL CERTIFIED....he copped a canary for EVERYTHING that was CERTIFIED!!!
Third- In hignsight you can probably find some UBER 1337 BULBS like the american's have/do and it will provide you with plenty of vision @ night and if need be for late night runs get some Foggies.
Fourth- Goodluck
Well said Lloyd ...
HID--NON STANDARD--DEFECT.
On normal clear road condition, we cant turn foggies ON. will get fine.
I got fine ,not sure how much was .. for having my foggies switched ON.
was driving along Anzac pde.. clear night.
hmmmm.. i'll keep that in mind... But can i install a custom projector inside the headlight? i see ppl do it with their EG and EF's o_0".. the headlight is stock, but all the did is take off the cover, and did some crap and got them selves a DIY projector headlight? lol
Just to clear some things up:
1/ Even if you get mods engineered you can still be defected for them. An engineers certificate does not guarantee you can't be defected, it simply makes it much easier to have the defect cleared.
2/ For factory HID's to be deemed legal they need to meet certain requirements in Australia, typically they need to comply to Australian Design Rules pointing specifically at lighting. HID's to be factory fitted must have: Self levelling system, properly designed projector housings with a maximum cut-off height, lens washer system (which is why you see factory HID cars have those ugly little jets on the bumper).
3/ Whatever you do, you do it at your risk. However, in regards to HID's you also do it at the risk of other drivers as you will most likely blind oncoming traffic at one point or another. We can advise you of places to get them fitted, but some of us like to make sure that you know it's illegal and potentially very dangerous.
hmmm thx thx thx
HID's aren't designed for headlights with reflectors, only design for projectors.. Even so, fitting HID's on a car that doesn't come with it standard IS a defect.
i saw the " ur25xc " ED, he had HID on , just tonight, he was going the oppisite direction as me, the lights didnt bouce off everywer, it was stable
I believe he is running standard lens.
And its good on the road? Doesn't blind people and gives you good sight?
Do you have both High & Low beam HID or just low?
If it worked for twitch, I might invest in a HID kit :)
oh hi twitch sorry to put ur number pl8 in public :/
neways.. twitch's ED looks hot with hid on.. n im realy nv-ing him lol
Just don't be surprised if you ever get pulled over for them, or when people high-beam you and blind you for having them.
lol hopefully i wont
lol you do realise that there are cops that come and patrol these forums too you know ;)
what they going to go where you live, im going to hunt you down for your hids? the cops dont even care about them no more cause a lot of the new cars come out with them standard, if you get defected just get it cleared
Or there could be Narc's on the forum...
Like i said before, you want it enough you run the risks and you aventually get defected.
its pretty good on the road especially for me im short sighted... to be honest with u i got high beam by couple of ppl jus because im going uphill and the other car is coming from an opposite direction and one more thing i was driving behind the cop car and i dnt think i blind him because he didnt pull me over or maybe hes just to lazy 2 pull me over... yeah my HID is only low i dnt have high beam..
if you have lo beam and click on hi beam it just turns off, if you get high and lo high beam will just be yellowy anyways,
ROFLS :L it got alright result for china brand :L
sorry to bring this thread up guys, my mate offered me a 8000k "marz" h.i.d set for my ed, asking for $200, near new cond. Should i grab it? && i would like to know wad colour it would produce. Thx
^^ marz is on ebay. i think you should get low/hi beam :D
yeah he got it off ebay, he used it for a few bit, then took it off.. I havent really seen him using it though and i was wondering what colour it'll make.. Would it be too bright etc?
i think 8000K would be the most noticeable and has a little blue in it.
looks sex!!
8000k on stadard ef headlihts

i have 6000k on mine, i have been flashed once but i never have trouble with the cops
i got 10000k in mine and have never been flashed in the 4 months that ive had them installed... hahaha and there is allot of things the cops would be looking at on my car before they got to the headlights lol
