Thanks
i installed my front speakers last week, alpine 6.5" components, piece of PIE. And i'm a chick! THere is a thread in the audio section (search for it) where somebody has given me a link to a website on how to pull off ur front doors. its so so easy. it took me 45 minutes to do each door install. just a word of warning, on the actual black plastic door bit on the inside around where the stock speaker is, cut that off if u want to put in alpines or anything in general, cos the spacer wont fit otherwise. believe me. trial and error. nothing fits flush back in the door, cos the original paper speaker is so thin.
if you need any help on front speakers, just send me an email nikkiv@utas.edu.au, or add me to ur msn if u have it nixta99@hotmail.com
With boot install, sub, amps, i put a piece of MDF under the carpet and bolted down the sub and amps to it, just so u can get to the spare tire. I put two strips on each side of the MDF underneath to lift it up so cables wouldn't get squished and they hide easier.
Head unit. just need to pry the black plastic bit that holds it in, start on the left top about 2cm down that is where one of the clips are. pulls straight out, change over head unit, just a word of warning, speaker wires are coloured really weird. Like the ground is black, and i think the power is red, and then the battery one is like green with a white stripe? or white with green stripe.. its got a stripe that i know! and its really weird. so you wouldnt otherwise pick it.
haven't done back speakers yet. but thats just a clip as well where the mesh is. unscrew, clip wires, put on those lil silver cap things (dont know their names) and put back on the positive/negative.
oh yeah, i think the green with stripe is positive. non stripe negative. wires are all weirdly coloured.
oh. my set up is type R 6.5" components in front doors, going to get just 6"'s for the back, maybe even another set of the components cos my subs are so bassy. head unit is the 9855R (UK model) thats a LUSH head unit, top of the range swing faces. Sub is just a type S 12" 900w, Amps: 2xT420 2/1 channel 700w amps, one is running front speakers (great great great set up) and the other amp is for my back speakers when i get them. running the sub off a mono block MPD or sumn, its a V12, cost about $500-600 and i'm just waiting for a bit until i get my second sub of the type S variety. its a very clean crisp system.
hope that helps.
but yes, dont bother about getting it pro done its a wate of money most places charge $60 hr minimum. and if it takes 45-1 hr to do each door, prob 1/2 hr max on each back speaker, then sub, amp install, and then all the running of wires, your looking at a good $400-500 for an install. when it will cost you a few hours.
Autobarn sell all the wires etc. u need and those lil metal clips for the speakers.
