has anyone got any info from belt to chain conversion?
for a b16a....
kev
What are your reasons?
Huh... Why would you?
he's too titeass to pay for timing belts.
I rate this 9/10 for dumbest post/responses ever ;)
watch what u say to kpg y0!
oh no he gonna get me know!
Owned!
-_- thanx for the replies
ask a stupid question
get an annoying answer
-2ds
:thumbdwn:
But I wanna know why you would change - not even the americans do it....
man i just wanted to know if theres any difference....in terms of strength etc... just out of curiosity... since nissan have them... thats all...
whys it a stupid question?
i didnt say i was going to change it to my engine did i?
nobody has a constructive answer? seems most of u are e-mechanics so somebody must have something to suggest...
It's a stupid question because even the turbo drag Civics still use belts. Why mess with something that works? Just because Nissan does it, doesn't make it right for Honda.
Referring to people as e-mechanics is going to get people's backs up by the way - after 19 years of working on my own cars and building/modding several, I like to think I have a little more than theory behind me.
yeah some people here are very helpful and really know their shit...but some people here have little over 19 years LIFE experience and act like they know a lot more than they do, thats all.Quote:

Well said :)Quote:

however, i must it is a silly question due to logical reasons...but then again i may be wrong.
imo, i'd say its not worth it due to the fact that nobody hass done it for a honda, and proven that it has an advantage over the belt. ( confirmation plz.)
next time use the search button.
lockk ?? b4 this getsd ugly?
isn't the F20C chain driven?
i think you're on to something ol chap! :cool:Quote:

Why don't you start a new thread saying "Why chain driven cars are stupid" or "Chain driven vs Belt" instead of plainly wasting this guys time.

P.S. Sorry Kevin I do not have any information on the subject.
Hi, Super Nintendo Chalmers!

C: I answered the original post as did McChook - maybe you need to learn to read :D
D: "20" years experience has to do with being referred to as an internet mechanic... again - perhaps reading for comprehension lessons are in order.
E: This is the lst time I'm in this thread - flame wars are so '90s interweb.
F: Have a nice day :)
G: In before the lock
Easy enough to follow?
u guys r fuks i dont care what anyone says
he asked a legit question no matter how stupid u guys might think it is then u guys farken turn on him like rabid dogs.
if the f20c has it why would it be so abosolutely ridiculous that he asks if can be applied in b series?
'use search use search' ....yeah how many times people asked about this? its not like a 'what muffler is best?' 'will these springs fit on my ek?' 'i want a turbo' stupid common OH thread.
addam + setana how is KB a hypocrite?
dicks, get a life -_-
fuk yaz!
someone plz lock this before it gets really ugly :thumbdwn:
ahh if u guys want to know on why i ask this question in the first place... it is not becos i have a stock b series engine... if it was...then i'd agree i'd be a stupid mod...but its running very high rpm over 10k for daily driving.... the chain conversion just came into mind becos i thought...maybe someone has done it b4...and was just curious about it...seein other type of engine being built with it... surely there must be a reason behind it...good or bad... i just want to know as and advice..
...if u had ur engine running over 10... do u really want the belt to be snapping, cos after alot of money spent on the engine... i dun think you would want the belt to snap destroyin all the internal mods with it...and thats why i was asking if anyone has info... just info -_-
Ok - I fibbed - saw Kevin's post and figured it might be worthwhile looking in.
Kevin - in a sea of insanity you are a voice of reason - I take back the comment about it being a stupid post. The answer is that the belts are quite reliable in a B16A. At 10K, I'd be worried - but Toda etc have built motors to do these figures - maybe contact them and see what they use. Ideally, the turbo drag Civics use belts still at high revs/HP - but if you want to be sure - maybe contact a place like Croydon Autosport to see what their H22A powered EG used. Thinking about it, ITRs and CTRs go for similar high revs (but not as high) and use belts. Personally - I'd suggest just swapping the belt half-way through it's life span - say 30K-40K kms for peace of mind - but I do mine early anyway at 50K km intervals.
The bottom line (now that it's clear what the criteria is) is that not many people here would run those revs and as such you need to consult experts who have experience with it. Prolly be better to clarify the criteria in future posts :)
Panda: sticks and stones and all that Jazz. ;) *yawn*
thank you =]
reason being i dun tell ppl why i do it is...bcoz ppl ask to much questions about my engine... -_-
anyways... if anyone else have or know someone who are experts with belts... jolt it down here... thanks
ooh he does a 180 now AMAZING!!
wow its not so stupid...
sure enough i already knew the about the 10k thing but still...
setana: stick and stones in your exhaust :D *yawn x2*
hi
i was curious about why they used timing belts at one stage when chains dont break
i foudn this on a website
The main advantages in utilizing a timing belt as opposed to a chain is that there are fewer moving parts, less weight, no need to lubricate anything in the belt area and less noise
hope it helps

without giving us any details it IS a stupid question.
According to what bumography said it sounds like a belt can be more reliable than a chain when replaced on a regular maintainance shcedule.
Toda, etc make high strength belts to replace to stock ones for sustained high RPM operation. you'd have to ask them about how often they should be changed though.
If you don't want to give detail on your engine say you are thinking about modding your car and will a stock timing belt hold when you get a fully sick 13k rpm enging like that b20 crvtec james was talking about a while ago =p
oo this thread is getting out of control =]
Yea i think a simple answer would have saved the hassel, regardless if people think its a stupid question or not, obviously kev asked it for a reason and came to OH as an avenue of finding information..
What does a chain belt look like?
IBTL :D
(BTW - the answer is: no, because it is too hard to convert a belt driven engine to a chain driven engine)

Hahaha to be honest yea, i never heard of it before so im totally lost =]
SR20DE's also use a chain as opposed to a belt.
Remember you cannot just change to a chain. You will also have to change your cam gears, waterpump, tensioner and so on.
Much easier to get a TODA timing belt :)
PS: No more off topic replies or this gets locked (as the Q has pretty much been answered)
