reclinable 'racing seats' vs fixed back seats.

Hello hello all,

my question is how much difference between the two is there in terms of ' feeling' the road and 'understanding' the car when driving in either of the seats.

my argument or question is not in relation to legal matters, pricing, or comfortable-ness, and is strongly targetted as which one and how much more 'helpful' /or does it improve one's understanding of the road/car/feel/g-force and so on.

after finding out 2 fixed back's are illegal in 2 door cars im contemplating just leaving stock seats or getting nicer looking stock seats as opposed to something like recilneable recaro's or brides if they provide very little benefit outside of the cool factor.

hope everyone who has experiened both can contribute !

I've had EK1 seats,they sucked.

I've had EK4 seats,ok,but crap really...

I've had a Bride Vios 3 fixed bucket seat and you wouldn't want to be in that everyday,just for the track.

I now have a Sparco Torino 2 Reclinable and it's Awesome.It's a semi bucket reclinable.It's sooo good!! I'm sitting lower and I am 'locked in' with the chassis of the car now.I can truely feel the suspension now because I am one with the chassis.Brilliant.Also,I could use this seat on track no probs! Plus that would save swapping them over at the track etc.

If say your car was quite fast and do a bit of track time then I would use a bride vios 3 for that!

fixed seats are pretty much only for race purposes, as you engineer fixed seats on a road car.

Fixed seats hold you better when cornering, that's about it. Other than that the reclinable ones are practible for moving & getting in and out.

I found my Recaro SPG fixed bucket more comfy than my SR4 recaros in DC5R.

Felt the SPG held my posture better.

This includes long drives to and from wakefield.

Yeah fixed bucket seats aren't even comfortable.They lock you in real good.THAT isn't comfortable BUT it's bloody great when ya takin' corners at 130km/h :thumbsup:

I found with mine,what I had to get used to was 'letting myself go' and let the seat take all my weight into the corners,cause ya natural thing is to resist/fight against that shift in weight so ya don't go flying out the window! BUT the fixed seat ABSOLUTELY holds you there,you don't have to do anything except rexlax and let ya self go in the corners,BLOODY BRILLIANT :thumbsup:

I'm currently using Tomcat Recaro Adjustables on low rails and they are a big improvement compared to my standard ES/EU civic seats. They hold me in the chair more, and I feel as though I can feel the car more when driving at higher speeds. I'm not so scared of falling out of the chair when taking turns fast.

I've never experienced non-adjustables when driving but sitting in my friends 180 who had a non adjustable Bride seat, I was locked in and it was holding me quite still I struggled getting out! But then again, I'm a fatso. Comparing the adjustable to non-adjustable, I think the non-adjustable would be better when driving hard but don't know about practicality especially in a 2dr.

spgs are my favourite lol. if you like them you should try zeta II or III isnt that bad either but waste of money for 3, lol just for looks

I found that my Bride Gias, to be more comfortable than my stock SR3 Recaro. Yes the bride is annoying getting in and out off - but once you perfect it, it's an art! - but the feel of the bride is amazing!! I didn't get it for the JDM wank factor (I run a seat cover over it every day, so you don't even know it's there really). It's reclinable too, so on long drives, you tilt it back and cruise, habib stylez!

The reason to go for fixed bucket seats over reclinables is because the fixed ones have a very high base support so there is no chance of sliding to the side, and because they are much lighter (available in FRP, fibreglass or CF).

Personally for street, get reclinables. You can get very supportive and hugging reclinables from Bride now. Look at the Gias Sport, Ergo II and Brix II. They have a very high base side support.

Gias Sport looks almost like a fixed bucket but still reclinable.

That's the price for 2 seats. If you were after 1 seat, then it's $2k landed, which is close to new Recaros anyway.

Sounds more decent

No offense but i dont mind the DC5R recaro buckets, i wouldnt mind if they could recline but as i have a lower back issue, they actually suit me very well :)

nah like just saying, if someone can afford 2k seats each seat. then it will work out practical.

i on the other would just buy a pair of zeta I fixed back, set of rails, thats like 1 grand. and you got 2 proper racing seats.

Your price is used though. The prices I'm seeing are brand new. So there is no comparison. It's like comparing someone who bought a used S2k for 35k vs someone who bought a 2009 model for $75k. Of course the dollar value will be better for the used car.

you pay for what you get... recaros are fine both recline or fixed..

but if i did have the money.. mate Bride Low Gias with Bride super low rails those seats hold you soo soo well :)

I agree with you. If I found Gias Sport used, I'd buy it ASAP. New, well, there is a reason why my car still doesn't have Gias Sport seats in it. 2k is still a lot of money. Hehehe.

Edit: Just wanted to add, you will see many auctions of Gias Sports on ebay for $1000 to 2000 per PAIR. They will even tell you how to identify real Bride Gias seats (i.e. silver instead of black FRP back for the Gias Sport model), but they are still fake because they are made in Taiwan.
