- change plugs
- change oil to recommended weight
- use genuine/hamp filter (hit up JDM yard for that)
- remove resonator on stock intake
try that first
if not
- change VTEC solenoid gasket
- take solenoid out and clean with carby cleaner
- reset ECU and check for fault codes
still no vtec
- check for oil leaks
- check sump for dents
check your oil, when its low vtec will not engage
Make sure engine is warm. Vtec will not work when cold.

did it ever work.
its not wired properly most likely. did one your your boys down at ultra tune do the install ? or a repuatable workshop. or diy ?
norm84 bought an EG with b16a vtec didn't work. PM him. (he fixed it)
bring it to your mechanic and fix it
if all the recommendation fails, then there might be something wrong with the wiring. bring it to good performance centre. they can fix it.
if the engines to cold the vtec won't kick in 'yo
how much $ are we talking..?Quote:

bruz, as the first reply mentioned, there are hhheeeeaaaappppssss of things you can do before you go to a mechanic.
if you find it along the way, you will have learnt something and saved money.
before i started stuffing around my car, i didn't know shit. i searched and learnt. if you get stuck then go to someone that has a rep for been a good mechanic. with my Vtak falling off problem, i literally hit rock bottom. i checked eeeeevvveeerrryyyythhhhiing, so i took it to TODA, it turned out to be bodgy wiring (wires going to wrong places, surprised the car was running) now i got Vtec powa yo..
as for the price to fix your "Vtec" it will depend on what it is. like ppl say it could just be oil, which will cost you 50 bucks, or it could be broken connection costing you $2 or $100 if you call someone to do it.
thats just my 2 sense. GL with it man,
Quick things to run through yourself...
Check for any error codes
Check you have oil
Engine is able to warm up - ie thermostat works & hasn't failed open.
Check the engine coolant sensor for ECU (resistance & continuity)
Check the vehicle speed sensor is working & conected to ECU
Check the TPS resistance/output is correct.
If this doesn't highlight the problem...
Check your ECU... Is it a Vtec ECU?
check if it fell off :)
if it is a vtec ecu, hook up a light to the vtec signal wire and make sure it's actually sending a signal to the vtec solenoid.
anyone wana come by and give me a hand?? :)
