Intake Manifolds For NA

ok so after a good read around alot of people are favouring the performer X IM by edelbrock because they are good for around 6000 - 8000 rpm like most of our street cars are.

im just wondering if anyone has had any experiance with skunk2 pro and performer X intake manifolds and what would be best for an internal stock sirg b18c with i/h/e with plans on getting cams and a good tune next on the list.

alot of the people from the states are swearing by performer x over the skunk2 but im still yet to see a dyno sheet that proves they are acually better.

what are your experiances with different intake manifolds and what other ones have you tried like aebs, obx or blox?

From what i read when i was doing some research on IM's the edelbrock is better for higher HP builds as it focuses more on high RPM and the Skunk2 is better for mild builds/street cars, i ended up going with the skunk2 on my B18C2 with I/H/E and i got 96kw which is kinda low but was just tuned with a AFC Neo, i went with the skunk2 only because it was easier for me to source locally. hope that helps out a little lol

Yes... even with the somewhat under-rated B18C2 intake manifold.
NB: The function of the secondary runners must remain via ECU controlled VSV. Don't bypass this.
Larger than 65mm in the throttle is not required.

my conversion came with a p73 itr ecu anyway.. so the butterflies musnt be working in the first place?

id go skunk2 good reviews on them for street and track cant go wrong with it lol
but can be up to personal opinion too

Remember the skunk2 is pretty much a copy of the ITR IM

Really? but dont people upgrade from the itr to the skunk2?

Yes, difference is that the skunk2 throttle opening can be ported to 75mm or something like that which some people need hence the upgrade but other than that... anything over 65mm is an overkill on most applications.

I would still tend to think that the skunk2 would flow better than stock though..

A 'modified' stock one as Adrian said above would be the go I reckon :)

im using s2 TB and IM on my b18c7 port matched to a 68mm and there was significant gains....it does depend on kns and age f the motor but nor a unopened stock motor with regular bolt ons its a good mod to go with...

way i see it is, he does have a business and he helps and shares alot on here, but if his got a special or different or proven mod to an im well as if his going to share that with everyone/competition. theres only so much you can give away for free. get what im tryin to say?

No real need to touch the ITR manifold & std throttle till you're trying to push past 145kw @ wheels. Once you're aiming past this, attention to detail really counts so you'll need to cut the manifold open & sort it out.
As for the B18C1/2 manifold, this intake needs attention behind the throttle & through the runners / entry to runners. (radius)
Luckily it is easily dissasembled.
Most of the work can be done with emory mops (Pferd is a good brand) of various sizes & grades.
If you're chasing really big power, the secondary runners are ported to join the primary runners & the butterflys are removed.
This gives large open ports & allows easy match porting to your (asumed) ported head. Throttle size in this instance should be 65~68mm
Personally I prefer the smaller throttle as the drivability is better with more linear power delivery per throttle movement.
Of note, both the ITR & VtiR when only mildly modified / ported will reward you with 64~65mm throttle use.
Going larger can often hurt power & drivability with loss of air speed. (But the use of of a tuned length CAI can help mask this.)

Just wanted to break the spell of people thinking that the Skunk2 Manifold is just a copy of the ITR manifold.. Here are the main differences. The Skunk2 Manifold was in fact actually designed off the Type R manifold but there are changes that were made. We have made changes to the manifold for the Pro Series version by adding 8" tapered runners and enlarging the plenum. With the Skunk2 Manifold you can port the manifold to run TB's as big as 75mm while the OEM manifold will not be able to go past 64mm where the Skunk2 starts with out breaking into the IAC passages. The manifolds now come in both Black and Red wrinkle finishes to match your OEM valve covers.
