What size semi slick on a 15x8" +36 6uL wheel on an em1?

Ok so I'm thinking of getting a wider set of wheels for track. but not sure which brands will make the tire size that will suit.

I'm thinking of maybe running a 225 up front and a 205 or 215 out back. I really like the Dunlop 03g's but the size I am after is not on their website...(I am currently using a 195 all round with a 7" wheel with plenty of clearance)

Anyone have any advice from previous experience? or know if this setup will fit/work?

225 or a 245

im doin the same mike, looking to go to 6UL for the EK fronts and keep the Re30s for the rear

for me i will be running 245 at the front and 225 at the rear

205-225's will fit.

for the rear, if u want to run 15x8 you need a 3mm spacer. with a 225 semi, if you want to dump the car you need to roll the guard and even flare it a bit
fronts should be ok just depends on how low you want to go. i recommend rolling the front guards if ure going to run a 225.

im using t1r 225/50 atm and had to roll and flare so sit the car nice and low

im using 16x7 with 215/45/16 ku36 . they hang over a little so i'd recommend using 215 for by 8's it will sit flush. not sure if they make it in the 15 inch though. but ku36s are sweet for street use and the occasional track.

Ok I think i will run a 225 up front and a 205 out back. should be sweet for fitment. gaurds are already rolled and stretched ghetto DIY style so scrubbing, hopefully shouldn't be a problem. Will be for TRACK ONLY. My car is low but not like crazy low so that should be fine as well. Thanks for the advice guys :thumbsup:

leave your 7" rim and 195 at the rear
then put a pair of 15x8 with 225/50 at front
you will love it

Well I am currently running a 7" wheel with 205 all round. But i'm keen for a new look and some new rubber so a nice new set of 6UL's in 8" with a 225's and 205's sounds good to me. My current tyres still have a good 2 track days in them easy, possibly 3 but I 'want' a new look :p haha

Thick metal bar with electrical tape wrapped around it (attempt to save the paint) get one person to hold it inside the guard between the tyre. Then another person to drive the car slowly forward and back while the person holding the bar slides it in the gap. The bar then flares out the guard a bit as well as rolling the lip up as well.

Mind you, this pretty much fcked my paint right up and the guards are not exactly smooth anymore haha so if your worried about that then i wouldn't recommend this method :p

When i can be bothered spending heaps of money, i'll get a re-spray and some minor panel work done and it will be sweet... :thumbsup:

so its like rolling guards, but also trying to make them protrude more?

would it be possible to stretch it with a guard roller or not likely?

what is it called again when the fender lip is bent outwards to get more coverage instead of tucking it in?

yesh i can flare the guards with a roller i did it to my EK u just need to be patient with doin to slowly or u can get it wrong and have a wavy fender.

Like me :/ haha Would be tough times getting the flare bits to be turned out, to the outside i reckon. I have seen it done on an eg in the states i think.

its hard to get it perfect the the EK has like a single wave on each side that i coudlnt get rid of so i left it, but it did flare out alot.

What you decided on shouldn't be a problem with the 225 at the fronts and 205 at the rears
Have the same tire set up on my brother's em1 but running 16" with 55 & 50 profile

Anything wider then 205 in the rear will most likely scrub like a Bitch as that is what happened with us, even if the guards are rolled. The scrubing doesnt occur on the inner guards but it scrubs on the top of the inner lip of the rear bumper where it bolts to the body and the inner chassis next to the strut tower esspecially if your running a bit lower then standard.

same with the front will most likely scrub on the inner rail with full lock

thing is i'm already running 205's all round. I want to get 225's at the front to attempt to get a little more grip in the tight turns (cows titts at winton) and also on corner exit.

Those tyres you mentioned probably scrubbed everywhere because they were about an inch too large in diameter :eek:. Did you really use a 225/50R16 and a 205/55R16 on an EM1 and expect it not to rub everywhere?

Yeah fair enough in saying try 205's first, but I was already using 205's on my other set of rims. Feel like its a bit of a waste getting wider wheels and not getting a wider tire... With the new set of wheels, if I use the same tire size, the only difference will be the slightly wider track because of the offset of the 6uL compared to my old setup which was a 15x7 +45. But then tires will be the same width. I had a lot of clearence with my old setup in the front and rear.

So with the wider wheel with the lower offset, I know it will sit further out, therefor restricting my tire size options (possible scrubbing) but The rear will def be fine fitting the 205, but I really want to attempt at fitting a 225 on the 8" wheel up front.

Either way, when the wheels come in i'll suss out how far they sit and assess if a 225 will fit up front. My gaurds are rolled and pushed out slightly so should be sweet.

For street I am using a 205/45 tire on a 16"x7.5" +26 wheel and the rear fits nice and snug, no scrubbing at all, as well as the fronts which still have a bit of clearence. I have a feeling my 6uLs with a 225 up front and a 205 out back will sit similar to my street setup.

Why 15x8's?

I would go an inch wider on the rims, 15x9's. Run the 225/50's with the 9inch.

to be honest, was worried about them not fitting and rubbing on the inside of the wheel well. Also thought if I can fit a 225 on an 8" comfortably, then why go to the 9" and possibility have more scrubbing issues.

Or go big baller and run a 15x9 6UL on the front with a 225/45R15 Hoosier R6 with a 205 on the rear on the 15x8. Fast. I will buy you a beer if you don't go faster :P.

Only need a 3-5mm Spacer. I dont think you would full lock on the circuit, unless your understeering like crazy!

How about the 225 Hoosier R6 on the 15x8". It would fit fine wouldn't it? Where in AUS stocks them? I didn't know Hoosier made a track tire, thought they were just for drag racing etc Could be an option considering the lack of tire options in the 225 for a 15" inch wheel.

Also the possible need for a spacer to make the 9" wheel fit also put me off from it.

*edit* Just checked the hoosier stock list/size chart. They make the 225/45/15 as well as a 225/50/15 but only make a 205/50/15 Hmm would there be much problem going with a 45 profile on the front and a 50 profile on the rear? only reason being that the 45 up front would give me slightly more clearence.

*EDIT* RE55s also come in a 225/50/15 as well as ADVAN AO48's. seems they are the three options, as Dunlop don't make 225 in 15"

why is runnnig a spacer put you off?

Thought it would push the rim out even more, again increasing the chance of it scrubbing etc. I guess i was just worried about fittment issues :/ played it safe by ordering the 8" wheel.

You'll have more grip going from 7' to 8' wide with 205/50/15.

A 225/45R15 is pretty damn close to the same outside diameter as a 205/50R15. The width makes up for the lower profile. A 225/50 is larger obviously.

I have had good experiences with the Hoosiers, and a lot of USDM fellows swear by them, claiming they are possibly the fastest DOT tyre. They may just be being patriotic though. The are a bit more expensive than most of the Japanese tyres and I am not sure if the wear will be as good. Craig at Trackside Tyres in Kilsyth sells them and he is a top bloke.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I am going to give the Hoosier's a go. I already sussed out prices and they are indeed not cheap. But then the RE55's aren't much better price wise. See how they go :thumbsup:
