D15B7 > D16A8 Conversion....Basicly recreating a Si from a GLi shell !!!@@@!! YEEAAH

Ok :wave: Iv created a similar topic a bit ago but will be getting car this Sunday and have a few questions just to be 100% sure the conversion will go smoothly.... (Now got someone with conversion knowledge helping me lol).

The D16A8 (ZC) is bit more unique when compared with normal D series so:

Basically after info about:

Engine mounts (100% same as D15)??

Drive shafts (simple swap over from D15)??

Steering rack (major job)??

Wiring harness (D16A8 OBD0 - D15B7 OBD1)??

A/C (will D15 AC everything swaps over to D16)??

(Want to bump up stock compression from 9.5:1 to hopefully at least 10:1 and increase the redline a bit)

So want opinions and info on:

Shaving/milling the head (worth it)??

Upgrading springs/retainers (yeah/no)??

Valves (who makes aftermarket ones/worth upgrading)??

Port and polishing (yeah/no)?

or you can put a USDM D16a6 cam into ur D15b7 and tune it for a 1.5ltr non vtec screamer =)

you will have to use D16A8 drive shafts

no need to change the steering rack

no need to change the loom in the car, however if your D16A8 is OBD0 its going to make thing alot harder for you, you can use the D15B7 engine loom and maybe the distributor as well, however you will not be able to match up the power steering and the harmonic balancer is different. really you want a OBDI D16A8 engine, and then there is the rule of putting an older engine into a newer chassis

Are you using the D16A8 out of another EG or CRX? for your sake as ECU-MAN has mentioned hopefully the EG.

To more specific in regard to power steering an EG pump pulley uses a ribbed belt, the crank pulley on an OBD D16A8 only accepts a V-belt

engine is out of a 1993 EH Si civic.... Wiki says its OBD0 though?? reason i am swapping engine is cause D15B7 has blown head gasket, throw out bearing is gone and timing belt & water pump is due....so all in all D16A8 swap is cheaper

a 1993 car should be OBDI and it should be an EG as well


you will also need a D16A8 gearbox, dont think you can make the D15B7 GB fit

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing but with a GL shell and convert it to VTi as i can get a VTi for cheap.

But in my case i will have to convert it from carby to efi as well.

Why don't you just go b series?

Also how you planning on upping the compression ratio?? If your gonna get a thinner (or thicker?) gasket then yes you'll need to shave/mill the head and block anyway. Same goes for high comp pistons.

As for increasing redline then it would probably be a good idea to upgrade the head completely. And if you wanna up the CR then you might as well rebuild the whole motor.

But that's gonna cost you a lot of money dude. I'd just stick to upgrading I/H/E and tune it.

i am a P Plater, so B swap is outa the question here...... was going to go thinner head gasket, and mill just a bit... Was planning on doing a rebuild anyways and just leave pistons and rings the same,

Basicly the aim is just to get a put more balls outa the engine for the next 3 years (when im off P's) , im welcoming any suggestions and tips too ;)

BTW im getting whole Civic Si chassis with engine and GB, so will have everything i need, but hoping everything will line up 100% and no problems with this for

btw budget for just getting engine tweaked and working amazingly good is $500...

cbf spending anymore

well with a Si chassis, all you have to do is swap engine gearbox, shafts, mounts and ECU, the rest will just be plug and play

no need to change the loom in the car

i can help u tune the D15b7 .. but i got no idea with the Si engine

Why is that?

D16a8 has the same power, you can also use the stock gearbox.

just buy a eg si, to much hassle and time wasted for like what will feel like 4kw more? what is your intent in the build?

It's not really a build just Swapping engine before D15 leaves me stranded in the middle of no where.......am getting the written off civic Si for cheap. So why not put a little labor in and get me a engine that I'm happy with till I'm off my P's. More aftermarket support for the D16A8/ ZC than the D15B7 as well

If anyone is confused. I'm removing engine outa the Si and putting it into my GLi............will engine harness still be identical?? Wiring engine and mounting it is my biggest worry here, Yo when u guys say I will need to swap the D16 mounts with the D15 ones. What do you exactly mean??

the support for the D16a8 and the D15b7 is about the same ... theres heaps of info in america for modding both engines - its not really popular here tho

true man, yeah well the busted throwout bearing is making the D15 sound o so mechanical lol

sick of it now, but still cannot belive a little 1.5L stock engine can take such a beating and only give me common problems that come with age.... no bent valves or fried rings, amazing little beast it is, loves that red area on my tacho
