Wrong spark plug?

I have a 98 Civic GLI 1.6L which is a D16Y4 right? I checked the spark plugs recently and the model is NGK BKR6E 11 gap. They were installed during a major service earlier during the year and seems to be fine.

i decided to check the NGK site.

This is what i should have: ZFR5J-11 11/95 - 12/00 HONDA Civic 1.6L EFI D16Y4

But I have these: BKR6E-11, 1993 - 1995 HONDA Civic 1.6L EFI D16Y1

WTF??
any problems? the car has been running fine by the way but i haven't measured performance/fuel consumption.

the plugs have some slightly yellow/orange burn marks on them with not even 10,000km usage.

Spark plugs should be changed every 10k KMs, cleaned every 5k KMs.

Maybe email NGK about it?

dont change ur spark plugs every 10,000kms

yeah i know. i'm pretty sure these spark plugs should last around 40,000km. in my other car i have iridium IX plugs which should last like 60-80k km...
anyone know if running the BKR6E-11 instead of ZFR5J-11 is causing any damage?

I'm not 100% sure it is causing any damage. But by reading and compare the "Part Numbering System" http://www.ngkspark.com.au/sparkplug.php# . They have the same thread diameter (14mm), thread lenght (19 mm), Spark gap (1.1mm), resistor, only the different is heat range (BKR6E-11 is 1 level colder). So I think it did not cause any damage.

why's that?

Theres no need because spark plugs last at least 40-50K minimum

i knew that much but the way he said it sound like it may be catastrophic if u do.

i change mine every 10k km or so. just starts up and idles smoother and for $16 and under 5 minutes of your time, why not

as grifty said, theres no need.

and there no way in hell i could afford $200 every 10k for sparkplugs

ur using iridium or platinum plugs i take it?

just curious why u chose iridium when copper is the cheaper option of the two?

iridium lasts wat? 80,000km?

copper lasts 10,000km. $16 for a set of four

16 x 8 = $128

$128 for copper vs $200 for iridium

dunno. peace of mind having a better quality product?

even though my car isnt special and my engine (b18b2 (non-vtec)) has a few problems here and there like headgasket leak, sump gasket leak and a few more things, i still like to use the best quality products i can use. they are all disposable products like tyres and petrol so i dont mind spending the extra money on better quality products. like using 98ron over 91ron even though im lucky to get 400-450 out of a tank (i fill up when im down to about 1/4 left) or having a large amount of camber and wearing tyres out within 20,000kms, id still rather fork out for the better quality product.

It's not a 'better product' it just lasts longer. I prefer to change my plugs every 10k KMs and clean them with a light sand paper on the 5k KM service in between.

i got my ngk iridium from autobarn for $50 a pop a before this year, should be able to get em cheaper thru work

I paid last time for Iridium plugs for $16.50. $200, do you have an 8cylinder car?

Yeah I paid about $17 at Bursons but then took them back and went for regular NGK's. $200? I'm a bit confused...

The NGK's last longer but I don't think you can clean them. Otherwise they don't really do anything performance-wise for your engine AFAIK so I stick to regular ones for cheapness and just clean them as I need to :)
