Hey guys
I have a J's Racing 60RS catback, bolted to the stock cat and headers.
As I understand, if I was to replace the headers, I would need to get a new cat, a shorter one, as headers are JDM spec so are longer, thus our AUDM cat is too long?
Is this right or have I misread everything?

Taht is correct.
If you get a JDM branded header or JDM Standard headers you will need a JDM cat or Aftermarket cat designed for JDM model headers.
Excellents thanks a lot. What cat would you recommend - i suppose it doesnt really matter as long at it has the right flange and length which is 2.75" flange? Not sure about length though
many people opt for the JDM ITR cat which pretty much bolts a whole JDM manufactured exhaust system together.
some people buy different types of cats (SMSP, xforce, catco, etc) and get flanges made to suit their headers and catbacks.
Don't get why people still buy used old jdm dc2r cat.
In My Honest Opinon! why not settle for a brand new better flowing cat?
Note* If your car is low you should settle for an oval designed cat eg. magnaflow or the jdm dc2r cat

because it's cheap and welding job is not tacky like you would find on most custom cats.
jdm dc2r cat is perfect fit for jdm header and catback and many people push fairly high amounts of power through these cats.
so your options are:
JDM DC2R cat, custom cat, JDM branded cat (SARD is the only one i know of to make one for DC2R, but I'm sure there's others out there) JDM test pipe, JDM baffled test pipe (T1R, Kakimoto etc)

Also, just quickly, can drone be caused by a lack of a cat? My 60RS drones a lot at 3-4000RPM, and my mechanic told me my car doesnt have a cat when he installed the exhaust

Did previous owner have test pipe?
Right now the headers are stock. My mechanic said the car has a test pipe, and there is a bit of black.brown staining on the bumper above the exhaust tip. Ill need to get under the car to confirm though. If there isn;t a bulge then yeah test pipe. Its just the car is really really loud!

Test pipes are illegal and if a cop detects it you will get a massive fine.

I know they are illegal, but when I went to have the car rego inspected, it passed the emissions sections, which is why Im doubtful and unsure if there is a test pipe

OK confirmed, my car has not Cat. Thats why it so damn loud and so much drone!
My eventualy aim is to get some J's Racing Headers - Toda is too expensive, and I want some shiny ones for some bling in the bay.
So what are my options now? I could get an OEM cat, then get a JDM cat when I get headers, or is it possible to get a JDM cat to fit now, so that I save money in the long run?
JDM DC2R Cat or AFtermarket brands to suit JDM DC2R headers will not fit your AUDM DC2R headers.
your best bet is to find a audm DC2R Cat for the time being until you get the rest of the system.
If you are getting aftermarket headers and using aftermarket exhaust it's best to get an aftermarket more free flowing CAT.

sorry i should have noticed this before, but i didn't.
it is impossible for you to have a stock AUDM DC2R header and AUDM DC2R cat mated to the JDM catback without chopping up the exhaust.
so going by the assumption that the exhaust hasn't been chopped, then yes a test pipe or shorter cat must have been installed in the process.
this is also going by the assumption that the exhaust shop that did the work, didn't actually chop up the header (which i've witnessed) and most exhaust shops won't be able to weld titanium anyway.
just go for the toda header man. i'm using both the J's Racing header and 60RS catback, will have to wait till i get it tuned, but I can put money down that Toda will be the better header tuned or running stock ecu. it's not cheap, but save up that little bit longer and it will be worth your wait.
The car came with a fujitsubo exhaust, and it had not been cut up, so yeah a test pipe has been installed.
If in the meantime, if I get an AUDM cat from a member on this forum, will an exhaust shop be able to make it fit, by cutting the test pipe and putting the cat in?
OK i ve just been told that JDM and AUDM cat back is the same, just that the JDM header is longer, thus needing a cat to be shorter. So if im running AUDM headers, AUDM cat should be fine?
JDM and AUDM catback is the same LENGTH. Not too sure if the AUDM cat will fit the J's B-pipe, unless you cut the AUDM cat and flange it so that it fits the Catback. But yes, you cannot run JDM cat with AUDM header. The AUDM header outlet is tiny compared to say a Toda header outlet.

I got an AUDM cat, tried to put in. Its longer that the straight pipe that is currently installed. So you cant use an AUDM cat with a JDM catback

Hmmm. probably not a good idea to cut up a cat converter, maybe purchase a universal high flow cat and weld up the flanges to the correct length? thats what I'm doing anyway.

Ok spoke to belco exhaust centre, they said abotu $400 fitted for a universal high flow cat. This way i will be able to use JDM headers later one :)
AUDM Cat fits JDM Catback if you are using AUDM Headers.
Either 2 things happened, your Exhaust has been cut to fit the test pipe, or your headers arent standard.

get rid off you aussie spec itr stuff it is shit enough said
the jdm b pipe is not he same lenght as the aus b pipe
the jdm b pipe is longer
if you want to upgrade to jdm spec items
and are tight on your budget
get jdm 4-1 headers 250-400 bucks
get a jdm cat 150 -200
this will bolt onto your existing jdm cat back
unless if it has been tampered with by a exhaust shop to fit your shit aussie itr headers
i bet it has been
dont say the toda headers are to dear the cost to go custom will add up close to what you want
labour getting flanges and etc will cost you in the long run
get the jdm 4-1 then SAVE for the toda headers
so what you will need to make your exhaust a bolt on job and you can do your self if you have some basic tools
any jdm header, jdm itr/ek9 2.5 " cat , and any jdm cat back exhaust
all are the same lenght and all are able to be bolted on to each other
so you can do it your self with the car on stands
dont forget to get a 2.5" donut flange for your headers
top of my head jdm cat is 30cm long oz one is 45cm long

My B pipe has not been tampered with as an exhaust shop didnt fit it, my mechanic did, and t was a straight bolt on. Im running a test pipe where there should be a cat.
My long term aim is to get Toda or J's Racing headers, but in the meantime I want to get a cat that will work now and when i get headers.
So I can either get a used JDM cat, or get an exhaust shop to make me up a new cat using a 100 cel one. All they need to do is a cut a section off the test pipe and weld the cat in its place. Then I should be able to use it when I get headers too yeah?

im guessing they would of to add a 3 bolt triangle flange to the test pipe to fit to the exhaust you have
and use a little 2.25 donut flange for your shit audm header ?
still be shit if that is the case as it still is a big bottle neck with the audm header
